  1. I think Corp wrote "The decline, fall, inevitable collapse, the rest of you don't understand that we're past the point of no return, of Oldham Athletic. RIP."

Thanks for clarifying that but my attempt will be much more upbeat and positive!

Question for old-timers or statto geeks: When WAS the last time we were in the same league as Dale?

  2. Update on this - and it is great news.

Hopefully, this will make it easier for many and should lead to more Season Ticket sales than previously envisaged. As Lags has said, if you can get a card with a 6 month's interest free introductory offer, then getting a Season Ticket and watching Latics for just £13.40 a match is even better value!

I noticed the bank I use (HSBC) is offering 12 months interest-free on credit card purchases for new card holders:

    http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/credit-cards

FYI, I am not promoting them, do not work for them and I'll get no coin if anyone takes them up on the offer!

  3. The 25 was from Barnet.

Bentley's going to wembley! (chant of the night ey jamie) Take away about 50/100 oldham fans either who've started jumping on the bandwaggon

No offence Rocky but if Dale get promoted I'll be penning a 5,000 word essay using my "Corporal Jones" pen titled "The Rise and Decline of Oldham Athletic"...

Do Dale fans call us arrogant Biffos?

  4. Here you go Lags. Why you can't use a Credit Card to buy a Season Ticket

I worked in the Cards Industry for several years and this post should explain the reasons for not accepting Credit Cards.

"Why can ST's be bought online with a credit card yet not at the ticket office in person?"

I thought Lags said they could * but it has to be online.

    * Just checked OS and STs can be bought online at:

    https://eticketing.co.uk/oafc/default.aspx

  5. Join the happy clapper club and repeat after me,

"Shez is doing a great job. Attendancies will not continue to nosedive, because everything is great".

    Repeat ad infinitum.

Does "SORB" in your signature mean "Sheridan Out. Ritchie Back" by any chance?

(Apologies if this is a titanic moment.)

  6. Where is the 'ST holder who's usual lift up is not going but only finding out Wednesday and therefore can't be arsed paying silly money for the train and also needs to also be back in reasonable time for a fellow OASIS members birthday drinks and doesn't want to get the coach up with the Leyton fans which he could catch at the end of his road' option ?????????????????????

And where is the "Distance-challenged* exiled fan who can't get there" option in the poll?

    * Minimum distance open to debate

  7. You mean there are people on here who don't actually go to the matches?. SHAME. :o

I won't be there either. Walsall was my last home game and that was shocking (although Leeds away more than made up for it)

I feel better having got that off my chest...

  8. That’s amazing. I hardly saw us in the Premiership days, in that season every week you must all have been doing the conga on the way for your half time pies, and leaving the ground looking for ways to top yourselves.

Looks like Big Joe's half-time chats didn't do us much good then!!! Or was it the players' fitness levels? Sounds like Shezza is not that bad after all in comparison...

I don't remember doing the conga with a pie but I remember throwing a pie away at Wimbledon after we got back to 3-2 and Gerrard let (another) soft goal in....

Does anyone know who the Latics fan was that tried to get on the pitch that day to (allegedly) have a go at our dodgy-kneed young goalie? We were right at the front near the incident. He almost slipped in my pie

  9. I'm with you on that one, I can only see Scholes coming to us if we went up I know McAteer went to Tranmere and Barmby went to Hull but I think Paul Scholes is a step ahead of those two

Perhaps as an altruistic gesture he would like to help us get promotion out of this league? But I'm not saying he could do this on his own as some have.

  10. But Utd won the league by 10 points, so we don’t think we need blame ourselves for the final result!

It was still painful for me to "give" them the title - how bitter am I?

I'm amazed they won it by 10 points so I had to check Soccerbase (no offense LL!)

What's more amazing to me is Arsenal, mid-table and nothing to play for beat Palace 3-0 on the last day...

Look at how the fortunes have changed for the teams above Arsenal and Chelsea since this league table. And even the ones below. ("MK Dons", WTF???) What are the odds on some of these teams (including ourselves) ever getting back in the "Prem"?

  11. I hope United do well. Only cause' Scholes is playing for em!

Oh and he's coming in two seasons. (2009/2010). But he did announce not long ago he WILL come to boundr... Oldham Arena (not again!)

What are the odds on the first "Get off Scholes, you're :censored:" coming from the Main Stand?

  12. Blackpool's squad was hardly the biggest, to be fair. They ended up finishing 3rd, and winning promotion, and they spent 30 games down in the lower half.

"Blackpool, Blackpool, bloody Blackpool" paraphrasing from the drama "A Very British Coup"

If the introduction of the play-offs in the late '80s gave hope to the top half of the table, Blackpool's meteoric success last season gave hope to the rest of the table...

Neither an optimist nor a pessimist but a realist.

  13. Think you will find that some who post on here will debate that :)

Well it depends how you look at it Exile: Some people (doom and gloomers) would argue that it is only accurate for one second of the two times a day and that's hardly worth acknowledgement whereas others (happy clappers) would say it is accurate for the full minute twice a day but that's because they have their 'rose-tinted' glasses on etc, etc. ad infin.....

  14. I don't take kindly to being called an idiot by someone like yourself Corp. Particularly when you are the one who time after time is completely misunderstanding FACTS.

    2006/07 - 6334 (Finished 6th)

    2005/06 - 5796 (Finished 10th)

    2004/05 - 6462 (Finished 19th)

    2003/04 - 6566 (Finished 15th)

    2002/03 - 6699 (Finished 5th)

    2001/02 - 5800 (Finished 9th)

In other words, since 2004/ 05, our average crowd has decreased despite 2 subsequent significantly more succesful Seasons. In other words, increased numbers of paying punters through the door are not necesarily guaranteed by more success on the pitch. Even when we try to buy our way out of the Division.

Speaking as a mathematician (cough), there does seem to be a season-to-season correlation between performance and attendance: the attendance increases from the previous season if the final league position is higher and decreases if the final league position is lower EXCEPT for 2005/6. As that does not follow the trend, I would ignore it

    I wish I could draw a graph...

But in general, and I've said this before, fairweather Latics fans turn up for the "magic of the Cup" rather than high league positions. I wonder if this is something to do with instant gratification... As the Hudders cup match attendance showed, it is less to do with the "quality" of the opposition than previously thought.

    Hope this helps!

  15. I'm doing a draw for a signed Latics shirt for anyone who helps me out by voting for me to win a new car on the Revolutions Bin the Banger competition. I'm down to the last 20 bangers and need some more votes so I don't have to keep parking my battered old K reg citroen next to the players' snazzy black Audis and BMWs - even the trainees have tinted windows and alloy wheels! Please help me out by texting BANGER 04 and sending to 82100. Reply to this post to let me know you've voted and I'll put you in the draw to win the signed shirt. I've heard one of the other contestants is a City fan and has got loads of votes down there - one more reason why I want to win it!

Texts cost 25p which is not bad to be in with a chance of winning a signed shirt.

    Cheers

Lois in the Club Shop x

Tried texting from overseas but unable to send.

I'll try again. Hope you win.

  16. What most people consider to be the 'right time' for us to be playing a team is usually the 'wrong time' for oldham. We have always performed well against the better teams....

That's what I was thinking. We're probably playing them at the wrong time! Although this "theory" was proved wrong at Port Vale..

  17. Sharp would have probably made it as a manager had he not inherited the impossible situation you describe. His despair in the face of GMR's Jack Dearden's questions regarding the ability to strengthen the squad after another Saturday defeat, was palpable.

What was it he said about pruning a tree so much that it will eventually die?

Yes, it was something like that. A very good analogy.

Two things spring to mind about Sharp:

I thought his appointment was purely for financial reasons. (He was on a highly paid contract from his mate Joe...)

I think he was/is hated because he got rid of Ritchie.

  18. Totally agree with this. We've gone through far too many managers since Royle left -

    1994-1997 Graeme Sharp

    1997-1998 Neil Warnock

    1998-2001 Andy Ritchie

    2001-2002 Mick Wadsworth

    2002-2003 Iain Dowie

    2004-2005 Brian Talbot

    2005-2006 Ronnie Moore

    2006-Pres John Sheridan

"Pres John Sheridan"? Ah, that's why he's leaving: he's taking the position of US President...

Mind you, any fecker is better than Dubya.
