Regarding Big Dog's selection I cannot see what Dallas has to offer and would not have him in the starting line up. I think Fondop would  be a better foil to play alongside either Norwood or Gardner to start. Fondop and Gardner formed a good partnership while Norwood was not available.

That's bold of you to say.

  2. Latics' league record in the 29 full seasons since the Premiership demise is:

    Pld 1325 W421 D399 L505

    That breaks down as:

    Championship/Div 1

    Pld 138 W40 D40 L58

    League One

    Pld 966 W316 D298 L352

    League Two

    Pld 175 W49 D48 L78

    Non League

    Pld 46 W16 D13 L17

In those 29 seasons we've had 6 winning seasons, four of which were consecutive from 2005-2009 and 2009 was the last season where we won more than we lost. I'm amazed we have the fan base we do!

I'd say we were about due for a little success.

    why not?

What do you mean "why not". I'm staggered by the acceptance of some fans of the dross that's been served up so far this season. It's not like we've just been promoted to League One and we're trying to find our feet again against superior opposition. This is the conference, playing teams that many fans wouldn't have believed a few years back.

As a fan base we've been bereft of any success for nearly three decades and now we find ourselves scratching around the mid/lower level of non league! For me, with the resources we seem to now have since the takeover, I think it's we should be dominating this division and I simply don't understand the attitude of 'give it XX amount of games, it might come good'.

I think we've been patient enough waiting for our time to have some success and to see us still stumbling along at this level saddens me greatly.

  4. We let 5 Sunday league goals in at home to Southend United ffs just let that sink in!!

    Absolutely.

In the past fans have been chastised for having a superiority complex when it comes to getting beat by certain 'smaller' clubs, but five goals conceded at home to Southend is about as humiliating as it gets for me.

  5. are you latics ready to take on the super stags , things have changed since we last played , change of manager who as brought in players who he as know got the stags playing football ,rather the route one hoof ball we did play ..jamie mcguire is still playing for us and for your fans to call him for that challenge is laughable , 50/50 no malice in that challenge . the chairman and his wife are settled down with 3 sons now. the chairman grew up in mansfield and been massive for the club . so come saturday expect a better super stags side then you have seen before ,stagman forever

You've got to love these quaint regional dialects.

  6. It's the fossils wanting their youth back.

I'm more than happy for us to use technology and new ideas aslong as it's communicated clearly to the players it can give us an advantage.

If you look at Alex Fergusons career no doubt he did things very differently when he started at St Mirren to how he did things at the end in 2013 with Man U.

Technology isn't the issue. Clubs have been watching video replays for years in order to analyse why they got torn a new arse the previous week, and with the onset of 3D digital recordings, this analysis is going to get more and more detailed. Fair play, I hope it's gives the players more understanding of why they were crap.

The issue I have is with this class room based, sports science, jargonistic theory that seems to be the trend at the minute. Studying de-hydration levels, based on body mass index, dependent on the metres covered over a 30 second period, will make absolutely no difference in a game for all the effort it takes to work it all out!

    Just my opinion like.

  7.

An alternative viewpoint is that many other teams use the 'the net is that way, hit the round thing at it" approach. By using the powerpoint, diet, marginal gains approach a team can get ahead of the opponents. - See British Cycling.

Those things probably work wonders for British cycling, but that's at the elite level of the sport. The same scientific approach may give the elite football teams of the world an advantage. I just don't think it does anything but over complicate the game at our level.

Interesting where the link 'See British Cycling' takes you. Do you think having that as next years home strip will give us a marginal gain?!
