  1. I have a slightly worrying thought harking back to the 6-0 Southamton drubbing a couple of seasoned ago. Before then we'd seen some good football and had a few positive results. Post spanking, a fear factor set in leading the tactics changing to über cautious, and the performances being drab in the extreme. I wonder if Johnson has the cajones to keep playing the positive way?

Sounds like Dom's permanent move was rushed through a bit, I hope he is happy coming over from Leeds every morning. Sounds like there are more problems at Leeds if the owner has to like players to keep them. Something Corney has learnt and something that will be tested if the Porter rumours are true.

    Awesome journalism by the way:

It has only been ten years since it was division two.

Reading that article, it doesn't sound like he'll be brimming with enthusiasm when he pulls on a Latics shirt on Saturday.

  3. “If you look at our crowds, we have an amazing hard core there, but people have to wake up and realise that our support is at League Two level. We keep ourselves in League One artificially and it is a dangerous game to play.”

A ludicrously overblown statement from Mr Corney. The support is at 'league 2 level' due to the repeated drudgery of the product on the pitch season after season.

We know the fans are out there; cup games and lower price ticket offers have shown people are willing to come. Make a success of the fundamental reason we all go and, what do you know, the crowds increase!

  4. A positive on a personal note is that I've stopped ruminating about the cause of our deep woes and formed the irrational and mildly insane opinion that the club is actually cursed - I don't know; maybe Boundary Park is built on an ancient Indian burial site, or we booted some gypsies off the land when the stadium was built.

Either one works better for me than this current reality!

  5. Bull:censored:. Those PNE fans were cocky as :censored: today. If they've been twatted (by which all accounts they have) then GOOD. Football isn't all about jovial back slaps and exchanging daisy chains. Get over it.

    Woof.

So it's about who has the most bestial fans who can emerge victorious from a Neanderthal battle. Give over.

  6. It's pretty bad when we're at a stage where we're speculating about how bad other teams need to be in order for us not to be in the bottom four,

I've no idea how the weekly training sessions are set up but, given that first half display, there don't seem to be too many practice drills on how to get about attacking and breaking down the opposition. Preston scored early and, for the rest of the half, did the bare minimum required to keep our impotent forays into their half at bay.

Second half Clarke Harris came on and we were instantly more of a threat with the persistent long ball to the front man which seemed to be the tactics from first whistle. I flat out didn't understand the idea of pumping it up to the front two who clearly aren't a match in size and strength to the opposing defenders; it was absolute child's play for them.

Preston were better organised, better drilled and altogether more professional, which was integral in deciding the winners between two distinctly average teams.

  7. :censored: that I see your Oldham and Eccles, and raise you Stockton and Middlesborough. Plus I'll throw in Sunderland too. All far worse than Oldham could ever be.

Until the place by my old flat was built I'd throw in Durham too, home to the worse nightclub in Europe.

Stroud has some decent country pubs nearby, not sure I'd fancy the town centre it on a Friday night though.

Stockton is like a night out in purgatory!
