Being dead is no excuse for being a part timer!!!!!! Bill Waddington lived on Coverhill Road Grotton in the old Pig Farm been dead a while but tries his best to attend. Doubt he ever paid for a ticket.
Stapleton is ex Hulme and did go to a lot of Latics games in the past but recall him being a city fan on tv tends to mention Oldham in interviews.
Sykes did nothing as a director for the club don't even think he saw the team play? Was appointed in an Eric Morecombe sort of way but didn't work.
If Philip Schofield is mentioned its purely cos he was born in Oldham, so we can add Biggins to the list as well, Sarah Lancashire and Bernard Cribbins!!!!!
or even Dora Brian who went to Hathershaw school with my great grandad but strangely claims to be years younger and conveniently forgets shes from Oldham.
Le Val (stumpy as known in Lees by some) is a hanger on red but has been seen at BP. "Martin" whatsisface from Corrie i think is a city fan.
To be fair to Sally Anne Mathews can recall her attending regularly a while ago, and being vocal, not sure if she was going out with a player at the time?
Norman Kelly. Saw her at Blackburn
Think we've struggled with this.

Do people really agree with docking 10 points? i think it is immoral. Who are they punishing? Fans. Players. What about the people really responsible. Look at Risdale. Whatever you think about Leeds is not the point. He took the club down a disasterous path. Ruined them. Then he goes off to Barnsley and Cardiff, Leeds fans suffer. He should be banned. Same thing could so easily have happened to us. Make the fans and players suffer, not the idiots responsible. I feel for Rotherham fans.

Warm balls are reserved for the semis to make sure small clubs are drawn against big clubs. This is, of course, a well known fact ever since the period 1990-94!!!!
-
Couple of warmed balls in the semi draw!!!

Think it was 1-1, end of season game 88-89ish.
Latics goal was at our end, but I can't recall the scorer-could have been Cecere ?
Rings a bell. Cheers.

I do remember that ! Respect Flynny ! Also respect to John Kelly who really stood up to Batty who behaved like a late 80's version of Brenmer. Aizlewood made an awful challenge on Frank which messed up his knee and prematurely ended his career; !
A couple of years later the Chronicle had us linked with Baird and also Kamara, I am glad they never wore the shirt.
Also of note is the tale that Joe was in for Batty at 250k a move which was blocked by the majority of the directors................
I remember the Aizlewood challenge. He somtimes does Welsh tele. Can't stand him for doing what he did to poor Frankie. By the way, what was the result of that game? Was it a draw?

'I like cheese.' Ralp Wigam on philosophy.

You make some interesting points there and have reminded me about Alan Young (do you remember the Chaddy End slaughtering him on his return with Leicester ? Although he still managed to score).
Yes, I am still fuming about Currie bottling it and also the challenge by Aizlewood, away at Leeds, on Frank which more or less ended his career. In the same game Iain Baird was gobbing at Cecere; absolutely disgusting and totally in keeping with that club !
I suppose Cecere didnt quite cut it, although I really liked him, added to that list Doug Anderson, Matthew Tipton, Ben Burgess, John McGinlay (Shame as injury free I believe he could have been affective) and £225 000 rated Allan Smart !!
Didn't Flynn manage to 'accidently' kick Baird in the head from a corner in the same gme, for which he was booked-total accident, of course!!!

Don't forget the sitter he missed when 2-1
I remeber the first game at Hillsborough. We we were in control at 2-0. Sheridan ran the second half. Superb. Finished 2-2.

now come on, how many people watch Latics without sampling at least two beers?
Don't wash shirt or scarf once weve won until we lose. Then we have to wash out the bad luck!!! They're usually quite clean!!

Tis indeed true; from my memory
Andy Lochead
David Shaw
Stevie Taylor
Vic Halom
Simon Stainrod
Rodger Wylde
Roger Palmer
Ron Futcher
Mickey Quinn
Tommy Wright
Andy Ritchie
Chris Porter ? Arguably
Were all forwards that were signed to replace an outgoing sale and became real favourites. Unfortunatly as is stated that well seems to have run dry over the last twenty years.
Without cheating can anyone tell me the club Wylde was sold to and his next club after that ?
Another thing, does anyone remember Rodger coming back to BP ? I can't but assume he must have done ?
Agree with all of the above (possible exception of Porter). What about Alan Young? Frankie Bunn? Personal favourites were Ritchie, Stainrod, Palmer and Wilde (and Quinn). Infact, i also liked Halom, and the much maligned Ron Futcher - Royle described him as deceptively slow!!!
Loved all of them.
Then there were the stikers who didn't quite cut it.Hmmm. McGarvey, Parkin, Banger, Currie (talented lazy S$%t -i'm still fuming about that Schmichel (can't spell) incident.

There may be a one-legged Ronaldo coming available!!!

Denis Iriwn became the best right-footed left back ever. It can be done.

Don't know if this is posted on another thread, but Bridges turned us down on deadline day. Mirror late again!

Soory but I've just been an anorak and checked, Irwin's first full cap was in a friendly v Morocco on 12 Sept 1990 . That's after he went to the darkside.
What about the u-21s? Stretching you now!!!
-
Where did I pass judgement.....I said "good win but its going to take Capello a while to sort them out I feel"......was anything I said not true ??? It was boring and lifeless. I am calling a spade a spade....
Talking about the booing.
-
I'm not sure Milligan or Irwin were capped (at full international level) whilst at BP. Wasn't it when they were at Everton and Scum?
I still have a memory of at least one of them being capped before the semi-final. Or was it the U-21s? Help!!!!
-
He's still only 29? He's been around for ages. I always thought he was a very good player, but his injury problems are monumental. Still, worth a punt.
-
Millie didn't get capped while Dennis was at BP I'm sure
Well, the memory keeps playing tricks. Kids, wife and middle age (and a large amount of alcohol over a long period of time). Stay single and sober (maybe if you stay single there's a better chance of staying sober). I thought it was the cup season, fixtures piling up and Joe ordered a private plane for them both just to help them rest a little. Was it just Milligan?
-
Boring lifless first half.....
Boring lifeless second half except for a good ten min spell....
A number of slightly improved performances and a good game from Bentley....
But nothing much different really....good win but its going to take Capello a while to sort them out I feel.....if at all....
He's only had three days! The booing was ridiculous. Nervous start - to be expected. Showed bits in the second half. Kept trying to get them to keep it down and play - promising. When they passed and moved from midfield I thought they looked good. But it is very, very early to be passing judgment.
Besides, I have a theory. It's very scientific. If you impress in your first game, you then get progressively worse and finish up failing. McClaren, wow great first win. If you don't impress you then slowly get better. Fab, little dull, world cup here we come! Yes, it is a scientific fact as everyone who replies will agree!!!
Most frightening thing about last night was the presence of Fab. Is it just me, or did anyone else feel 'oh crap' when he left the bench after five minutes and stood on the touchline. He is the Godfather!!
-
That's got to be the first time we have had two full internationals on the pitch at the same time hasn't it?
What about Milligan and Irwin for ROI?
-
I remember that. It was a horrible photo.
The incident was at home against Burnley though and was one of the first instances of real trouble that I saw. In those days, there was no segregation but before kick-off, the police moved all the Latics fans (including me and my dad who always used to stand in the Rochdale Road End) into the Paddocks.
That was the re-start of football violence in this Country and the following years were often a little hairy.
There was an identical incident at Burnley. A lad was stood two steps down, something came over, he turned to his dad and there was this dart sticking out just above his eye. Was it around 1979? Was Steve Kindon playing? It all kicked off afterwards. Bad old days.

I thought about him as soon as i heard the news. Didn't he have a spell at County? if so, he could still have connections with the area.
