  1. back to old fans anyone remeber fat geoffery the massive Steward who stood next to chaddy end and main stand paddock ,does he still go?

I remember him. He got so big in the end he needed two seats on the coaches. Funniest moment was when he was steward and, as it often did in that corner, it all kicked off. He filled his boots. I've never seen such a big man move so fast. Where is he now?

  2. If i remember righty we lost 0:2 or 0:3 , I can always remember the Wendies games mostly off the field though

I thought we drew 2-2. My memory really is getting bad. Or am I mixing my riots - was that the Long Good Friday city riot?

  3. `And there was a red haired lad who went everywhere but was always legless. Once, at Birmingham, he was that drunk he couldn't manage to get back up the steep terracing`

That could be mad Eddie from Glodwick who used to hang about with Mouse and Gus Green

Did he get very drunk very quickly? The funniest one was when we were at Sheff.Wed the season of the Stainrod/Curran inspired riot. I was with my mate from school. We were shocked to find ourselves at the side of their end of the ground with a very small wall between us. He came up to us and I hadn't met him before. He slurs what sounded like 'are you an Oldham :censored:house?' I looked at my mate and, yes, we certainly felt like that. Then he repeated with a slight smile, 'are you from oldham, where's the :censored:house.' We laughed and thought, 'standing in front of you.' Then again, their end of the ground was very large and intimidating, especially after one of the worst riots ever.

  4. The problem is that we don't build a side. As pointed out many times before, the side is ripped apart every close season, which means that we start a season with a new side that has fallen out of the running before it's even begun to gel.

We then have the usual, 'will we/won't we make the play-offs?' When we do, a patched-up side of past-it veterans and kids go and bottle it.

The only way we will ever get out of this division is by building a decent squad, keeping it together and going all-out for automatic promotion.

There is no will at the club to do this.

Ideally, it would be nice to have only 3-4 changes over a year, to have a stable core. How else can you really build a 'team.' But I also wonder about the structure of the modern game in the lower leagues. Are we the only one like this? It seems that there are more journeymen than ever, players getting a signing-on fee, staying for 1-2 years and them off to the next signing-on fee and short term contract. Or is it just us? Any stats on player turn over in the lower leagues?

  5. For me would go straight back in at Centre back.... all this cack about paying him off, people are starting to forget about what this man can do! How fickle some fans can be.... You can hardly blame him to the start of the season we had! The squad is missing big influential players... we need him back!!

The rumour was because of his injury ie early retirement. I think the defence has performed really well without him, but we need bodies back in the squad fighting for places, so i'd welcome him back, but not an automatic starter.

  6. alex 123 who lives in cape town told me grounds are only 10% built so they might be moved to germany etc but this is only a rumour

I hope not. That would have a terrible impact on the south african economy (and prestige) and for the game in Africa. Still, being purely selfish, it would be nice to hae it in europe, but Germany again? I suppose they're the ones who had it last ime and therefore best equipped. Could we host it?

  7. just been thinking of the latics fans i used to know back in the 70's/80/s anyone know the where abouts of john whitehead (national express driver ) fat doc , phil the daffadil (only know first name) pud, carl longsdale paul dutson dave roberts (lived in london) carl broadbent ,carl spiers kenny jones tony kirton (jim kirton's bros) ian hough gus green and one fan who won the lottery (latics one) while in prison ,anyone know anyone ????

Phil the Daffodil!! Good grief. There was also a big lad, Dutty - you may have mentioned his name. And there was a red haired lad who went everywhere but was always legless. Once, at Birmingham, he was that drunk he couldn't manage to get back up the steep terracing. And what about caveman!!! Not to mention your goodself Bob. Was it you who once paid for the coaches to take fans to Derby?

  8. Relatively happy Jarret is a good signing, and Livermore looks to be another. The Trotman money was only available at the last minute so you cant really count that as funds being available to use immediateley.

Look how forrest struggledd to spend money over the last month or so. To be honest I was happy the Moore deal fell through was somewhat underwhelmed by that proposed deal, the trannies are welcome to him. I would have much preffered a loan deal for the lad from Liverpool.

Think we we still get someone in a week or so,just glad Shezz kept his head and didnt blow his stash on panic buys.We should have a bit to play wiith for next season now when the money will be better spent hopefully.

    Robert

Off topic, but why penryhn. i have reasons for asking, though nothing startling.

  9. Thankyou

its because of replies like above that i dont post on here often.

I never booed Ricketts once i even had an arguement with someone about him one match.

i know. express an opinion and some instantly take it as a chance to take the mickey, rant or just give abuse. the whole point of these internet sites to allow a free flow of opinion not to try and frame opinion or abuse people. i still don't know what he was getting at. don't worry about it.

  10. basically if he doesnt do things exctly how these individual fans like it then hes gotta go, my advice to these fans: start your own club, hes trying to do right by us, but hes never gonna satisfy everyone, hes getting us results, if you dont like it, go to man u

so everyone sing from the same hymn sheet or leave. i've noticed a trend on these boards. no criticism, ever, unless it suits you.

'if you don't like go to man u'. typical. what's up, don't you like your cosy love-being disturbed by individuals with opinions? does it hurt your brain or make you cry because someone questions what you think? will the nice man from stretford get upset and leave.

    grow up.

  11. we win away all the time

we have excited on a number of occasions this season

he not the manager of sheff wed

we are a selling club and if people want to leave then they leave , thats life, they have to be replaced, that would be the same with any manager.

oh and we dont lose often, especially away (9 on the trot away)

you cant pick and choose where you wingames and think most of the beef is with the fact that alot people cant go to all the away games, a win is a win at any ground.

next season we might win every home game and lose every away game , i have a feeling people will be much happier and just say.if only our away form was better but shez is doing ok and he will turn it around,

Actually, i only wanted to see why others are positive about him because i have serious doubts and don't see that much in him at all. We draw a lot of very tedious games and have failed to excite at home at all. This is a serious problem. It's been average to poor for a year. We've always been a selling club, but players simply don't want to stay. And we don't actually sell that many. They would rather go to Port Vale, Doncaster or (god forbid) Scotland!

Oh, and we still don't win that often at home, or entertain.

  12. we dont lose often.

we TRY to play football in the correct manner.

the kids in the reserves trust him as he has manged most of them

he is still learning the game

he has a strong staff behind him

    he loves the club

he is building a team (it may take more than 2 years)

    oh and...............................we dont lose often

we have not bought anyone yet , i know it frustating but for gods sake at the start of the month everyone was singing his praises and now people just want to let him leave no problem. it takes time to build a promotion winning team especially with a small budget at a club that is LOSING money hand over fist. we are not in a position to sign just anyone , the players have to be right or we are stuck with them and we cant afford that. we are not a bad team , we are just struggeling to break teams down at the moment but when we give someone a good hiding and think that will be soon, watch the confidence come back to the players.

that is why we should do all we can to keep shez.

whats the motto of the fans oh yeah............................ KEEP THE FAITH.........try not to forget that!

Fair enough but, in the interests of healthy debate, you could equally say:

    we don't win often

    we rarely excite

we need someone who knows the game

anyone can build a strong backroom

    he loves Sheff.Wed

he has had a very high turnover of players, especially in the two summers, which makes it very difficult to build a team

oh, and we don't win often, especially at home (2 games all season)

  13. Getting back to the Sheridan debate. People can see the negatives, but what are the positives. He seems to have support on this board but, and I ask this without anything in mind, what are the good points about keeping him beyond the end of the season. I'm not talking about continuity, but what are HIS assets as a manager?

    List please...
