  1. I've seen him a couple of times, he was superb at Wembley for Stockport, the real difference between otherwise two evenly matched sides. Then later that year he was at BP in the 1-1 with Hudds, he put himself about very well but that was it. Never really looked a threat.

I think he's worth a trial, but since leaving Stockport, he's become a journeyman. It's only three years since he was sold for 3/4 of a mill, but his heart seems to be not in it from what I have seen and read.

I hope we've not put all our eggs in one basket with McDonald and it seems that the Donaldson rumour was just that. I think the fact we are being linked with so few players, (I don't ever remember a summer as quiet as this at BP since Ritchie was in charge) is worrying and the reality biting of just how crap our budget is for next season, and we're still waiting to hear back from our own players we've offered contracts to, including Youth teamers as I type, Morais staying is confirmed - good news

Dickov seems to be taking a stance now on contract issues according to the OS, deadline set for answers !

  2. Makes me laugh way people are having ago, the club could play all there friendly games away or behind closed doors, allowing them to save money on stewards, turnstile, operators, police costs and floodlights. Still time for more sides to be announced.

Also people talk of going on a tour even if only to Scotland, NI or Eire ! how we gonna pay the travelling and hotel costs ? we can't even pay the wages ! there is a reason why were playing locally we can't afford to go anywhere else, alright i'd agree they could be different teams !!

  4. Barry, i applaud the efforts of everyone at the club for having a vision of this team playing at a higher level ie - promotion, i only hope we are not living beyond our means and putting the future of our club at risk now we have no financial backer as such, please don`t take that as a dig it's just a concern !

  5. I'm in two minds about the Chron.

First and foremost, it is a rare privilege to have a genuinely local, independent newspaper in an age where the huge majority have been swallowed up by the national press.

From that point of view alone, I'd say it's a paper worth supporting to maintain its independence. After all, it does tend to report Oldham Borough news reasonably well - it must help that the journos and editors are Oldham people, writing in Oldham.

However, time and again - and not always to do with Latics -the paper manages to shoot itself in the foot and turn people off.

A very good friend of mine followed his Dad onto the paper, and whenever we talk about it he defends the Chron wholeheartedly despite taking redundancy a while ago. As an independent, the paper still has that kind of hold on people - the instant Guardian Media or some other group buys it, that will be lost.

I suspect it won't be long before they cut two nights a week. How well the new weekend paper does is almost certainly crucial.

Would agree with your comments, if the Chron was to go you`d be reading about our games in one paragraph if your lucky in the nationals ! I actually though the Latics coverage had got a bit better this season with back page coverage and the best part of a double page spread inside on a monday with match report ! will probably get better if were more succesful under Dickov ?

  6. To save any confusion on what Rick has said. A lot of points he has made have to be ratified by the Trust. The fighting fund is to be set up to help the club in its immediate needs. We need to live for today and help the club at this time.

People talk about funds for a rainy day. I diasgree strongly. We could never raise sufficient funds that would be meaningful in a major crisis.

In any event we do not have such a crisis and we need to assist the club to operate at this time. Its all hands to the pump as they say and I would hope fans can help along the way.

    Barry

Barry it's ok saying we need to help meet the costs of the day to day running of the club and i agree to some degree but what are we getting back in exchange for that money ? yes it helps the club survive but we should be asking for a reduction in the loans owed by the club to TTA or a larger % stake in the club ? or are we propping up corney who by all accounts wasn't the money man.

  7. The is an organised earlier than normal Trust Meeting at the club tomorrow due to the events of this week.

With this in mind, ALL fans are invited to turn up from 6:30 to 7:30 pm to speak to anyone at the trust

Is that to sit in on the first hour of a trust meeting or to just have a chin wag for an hour ?

  8. Barry is not everybody's cup of tea, but my answer to that would be no. I think there are a couple of things which do stifle Trust Membership though, which is as follows.

    1) What you get for being a trust member. This is something we are actively working on. Although the membership fee is buggar all (£5) I still think we should try to give something back to trust members. As well as a membership which entitles you to stand for director or nominate other directors, we are trying to negotiate with local businesses deals whereby trust members would benefit from some kind of discount.

    2) Circumstances at the club. the last time the trust was at its most active and membership at its peak level (as I understand), was in a time of crisis when Chris Moore walked. How many times have people asked on here when we werent in a time of crisis as such 'what is the point of having a trust'? I personally think a mindset of complacency that 'we had three millionaire owners who are bankrolling the club, what to we need the trust for' stifled membership alot more than Barry does.

Carl, thanks for the honest answer, as you can see i was typing my reply to Ackey as you were posting, you can see from that reply we dissagree but it wouldn`t be very interesting if we were all the same

  9. I don't think that's a fair question to ask Carl is it?

If someone asked you to give your honest opinion of your boss in front of your boss you wouldn't feel comfortable would you?

Ackey it depends what type of person you are, in answer to your question yes i would tell my boss my opinion, if he didn`t like it and i couldn`t justify my opinion it would be up to him what he did about it.

My opinion is that i think it does stifle membership, it only costs £5 to join the trust and yet they only have around 300 members i believe, Barry may do a good job but he has no people skills and therefore alienates the very people he should be trying to attract to the trust.

  10. 1) I would say

    - to protect the future of Oldham Athletic and prevent a Chris Moore style scenario

    - To represent the view of the fans on the board

    - To invest in the future of oldham Athletic

    - To help the club as and when we can

    2) Not quite. I personally think directors wise we are a bit thin on the grounds and could do with getting at least a couple of people on board with experience in fundraising or with some business nouse. But Bernard Matthews would find it easier to recruit turkeys at christmas than trust oldham trying to recruit vounteers of the calibre we need at the moment.

    3) My personal opinion on this (and this is what it is, a personal opinion) is as described above. At the moment a member can be nominated as a director regardless of whether an existing director likes them or not. The chair is elected from the existing board of directors by the directors. Currently we have nine active directors including Barry. We have room for a total of 15.

From what I can gather, I think the problem most people have with the system is not how directors are elected, rather how the chair is elected. As I said, my views are that the chair should be:

    1) A fully paid member of Trust Oldham

    2) A director for at least 12 months

Speaking as a trust member and a fan of Oldham Athletic, I would not be comfortable with any old bill and jo at the helm just because they were popular. The position of chair is not a popularity contest. The chair will not only hold the position of director at OAFC, but they will be ultimately responsible for making the final decision on many trust related issues, unless he or she has delegated certain decisions to be made by other directors. Hhence why I think any potential future chairperson of Trust Oldham needs to be a director for 12 months, to give them the opportunity to show that they are capable of fulfilling the position of the chair of the trust.

Question 4. Do you think Barry being chairmen of the trust stifles membership

    .
