  1. so is this a new approach at doing things or lack of funds for a hotel etc?

I'd rather go by train than coach when I can, get into 1st and the comfort is decent and you can go for a wander to stretch your legs better than a coach. It'll be on the photogs summary in the chron I can see it now .. the crazy Dutch man and whoever he can persuade to join in with the riff raff having a beer after netting to get 3 points back in cattle class!

now wouldn't that be a precedent to set for away trips? ha ha

  2. I think it was maybe more a personal touch that kitted out the shop of old. In that I mean it took people like Christine to stock it with lines that she thought would sell - for instance I still have a very nice silver coloured latics watch and at least 2 sets of cuff links which have seen me through many a formal dinner. Then numerous badges for the collectors amongst us, regular changes in scarves and the like and you have a decent stocked shop, nevermind the shirts, jackets etc.

At the end of the day the companies that make them, make them for other clubs also .. they simply need demand and the person who's prepared to order them. That will unlikely happen with SD running the show, and if the staff are as unmotivated as they are, I've very little chance of getting my towel as others have their mini kits!

  3. In fact, since it's been turf.

I wonder if the day will ever come around whereas the quality and standard of the artificial pitches is such that smaller non premier league teams can install one? I guess they'd need grants to get one, but the savings over the years/no missed games would be a bonus!

  4. about croft

always seems to impress pre season and get a contract but then goes missing during the season. is he not the sort of player a cleanout is supposed to get rid of ?

I rally cant make up my mind about him - and how many goals has he ever scored for us?

I'm not so sure about other seasons he's been with us, but is he the type of player that needs to play every week to keep on top of stuff? .. ie can get quickly demotivated when missing out etc .. that said, as you and others have said put a shift in today .. and has done in the past when we've needed him to!

whereas I'm glad that others have mentioned about our second half left back lol .. i was told I was being unfairly judgemental when I said he was at fault for at least one goal, if not both!!!

  5. talet of two halves imo! held our own and decent football in first half, but the weak links were shown up in the second .. both keepers did ok if you ask me - 2nd choice should have come for the ball, realised and then somehow tipped it over the bar! .. happy with work in progress - see what Tuesday brings!

  6. I think this whole pre-season think can be taken too far! yes we're a little behind, but with players signing up who are looking like they have a point to prove and others seemingly signing up on the strength of who the manager is could be a good thing! .. Dowie (WITH Harbin) had players running through hoops, and let's face it, few were stars back then, a number were non league lads taking their dream chance. When all that was mixed together it worked well. The lack of any fitness/cohesion will hopefully be taken up by the enthusiasm and belief that SR puts into their heads. We hopefully will play our part, support the younger lads who may get a chance and not be too vocal with our displeasure when things aren't going well. Who knows, we're well overdue a good run at ISZ .. I'll be there as I hope a few stay aways will be ..

all I keep thinking of is the difference between the last week or so compared to several weeks of departures .. I personally think it could have been a lot worse than what's being assembled before us now!

  7. I've read that, but tbh I read it simply as they've reduced the price to £300 irrespective of the 500 'lucky' ones. That said I think that's a good thing with regards to our new recruits and seemingly continuing arrivals!

Let's hope some more can afford to commit to that level AND get returns on the pitch for it!

  8. He might even be able to motivate Carl Winchester.

I too was also thinking along those lines .. what struck me the other week is how he signed up when most (B Wilson aside) seemed to be jumping ship!

Now amongst all the faff on social media, maybe there was an element of smoke screens with a name or two, and our Carl had an inkling - or had been told - that he was in with a shout, and like others have said this could be the catalyst for him to crack on!

If rumour has it that there's a press conference imminent, then only time will tell ..
