  1. None of them were ripping up trees prior to joining us were they? In fact there were a few complaints about us getting reserves from Burton and Wycombe!

But they all either went back as better more confident players to feature more often for their club or were sold on by their clubs to make them the profit

How does that in any way support an argument for not using Loan Players? Do you want want players to regress in their time here? And what's that got to do with anything anyway? The point of loans is, or should be, that we get players with ability and/or potential that would otherwise not be available to us with our club size, budget or whatever. And Loan or Contracted, they should improve, and whilst they are here they should help the club get points and hopefully success.

  2. Burgess was the by far worst defender on the pitch versus Carlisle so that logic doesn't stand up, although I understand your point we seem to view our own players failings different from those of our loanees.

I would disagree about Burgess having a worse game than Edmundson, both from seeing them live and having just reviewed the highlights. And with regards to having different views, for me personally, it makes zero difference, loanee or contracted; while they wear the shirt, they're Oldham players full stop.

  3. Yes Brian Wilson against 6ft plus Evans and Wilkinson makes loads of sense!

Burgess should and will start, wasn't his biggest fan initially and he had an absolute mare against Carlisle but he's a much better option than Wilson imo.

To be fair to him, Burgess suffered from losing the help of Clarke alongside him, and simultaneously having to keep an eye on Edmundson.

  4. But we didnt get Matty Palmer, Curtis Main, Holloway or the left back who has joined Huddersfield.

And you think that we had a good chance of, at the same cost, alternatively buying players of similar playing value?

So, a reason to not loan players, is that we get players whom we otherwise have little chance of otherwise obtaining the services of?

  5. I might be accused of being very sceptical but you truly are looking at the situation through rose coloured glasses. The better loanees will never sign.

Plus we have to give them 12 (or 9) month deals

That is a fair point and I am ignoring the speculation that Burnley might have a buy back clause but he is 1 of the 3 and the most saleable of them.

But he is 1 of 3 not 1 of 15 or 16 so our recouperation chances are definately reduced by this new policy.

Btw I am amazed that we got him (& also Clarke)

The latter quote was my point, or the proof thereof.

  6.

So half of our team are not our players. That is half of our team that will never be sold on by us to bring in money to assist towards that budget.

Half of our team have no loyalty whatsoever to OAFC and to whom we will not have the chance to be loyal because they will not be here next season

This makes the massive (and false) assumption that loan players that do care, and do well, will never end up with permanent contracts.

You could argue that a 'try before you buy' policy simply helps us to not waste money signing players on multi-year contracts who then turn out to be not what we want, and we can't shift them.

  7. "Pinched" a point?

Wouldn't "Earned" a point be more appropriate? :)

Bradford had 22 shots at goal, 7 on target.

Says more about their wayward shooting than accuracy and a bit like Latics under Johnson.

For all Bradford's multitude of chances, there was only one where I held my head and thought 'We've got away with one there', and that was in the first half.

Penalty decision was soft, maybe technically correct in today's game but still it could easily have been turned down.

  8.

"I`ve been a Latics fan for....." - should that not be "I WAS a Latics fan for....." - if you haven't been for 2 seasons, you can't call yourself a fan - sorry.

Think that's being a tad harsh. There are various good reasons why a fan may not feel able to attend games; these usually revolve around money and/or geography.

Personally though, I think that "they knocked down the bar next door" or "the football is boring" or "I think the chairman is a %£$%£%" just do not count.

  9. You aren't getting this are you?

We all know that's not how to value a company, that's why resentment has been rising at SC, year on year, for doing so.

This website. I think its the company who designed the North stand values oldham athletic at £15million .

Unless I've read it wrong, which is probably the case and the value is for the whole development including the 700+ houses and the hotel facility and North stand.

Someone asked how come they might value the club at £10M. I have provided figures as to why which are facts.

I started off under this thread correcting erroneous points from another poster. The £10M+ I would argue is not just an opinion.

What a club is valued at (whatever method you use) and what an owner wants to satisfy his or her exit strategy are essentially two completely different items, and can be vastly different, either way.

  10. Not the one last Saturday, he only arrived 2 hours before the kick off.

A judgement was soon made on him by club and fans alike.

That does sound a bit hasty, although there is then the all-important consideration of attitude, both on and off the pitch. Having the wrong flavour of this can, and should get anyone a swift exit out of the door.

Not alleging that this is the case though in this example.

  11. It was called a trial and every effort should be made to impress. If they aren't up for it to win a contract forget them IMO.

I notice last Saturday's trialist was ditched after one friendly, are you saying the club's management was wrong to write him off?

The management will likely have had the benefit of seeing trialists up close and personal in training too, and the friendly might be only a small part of the decision.

Also, the management have the advantage of knowing what they are talking about unlike the vast majority (some exceptions of course) of us supporters.

  12.

The Iceland supporters did it well and it means something to them. Means sod all to us. We have the brilliant "Everywhere we go" chant to sing (worst song ever).

Noticed it happening at the cricket the other night. Looks like everyone will be at it, at least for a while.

  13. Robinson was interviewd by Gordon for Latics Player earlier today God knows why they haven't even announced it, he's already made his first signing in Ripley he was interviewd to are they doing it to take the piss or what ?

Have I missed something? Nothing on the official site or Latics Player regarding either an interview or a Ripley signing, as far as I can see......

or is this a Ripley Believe it or Not??
