  1. It says that Leyton orient have enough money to offer him a healthy salary and contract. Short career. Most league one players would drop down to earn more money.

It also says he had no better (or equal) offers from a higher division, which he surely would have taken.

  2. I thought Kelly was good at breaking up play and getting through a lot of work. To be fair he needed to be as most of his passes went straight to the opposition. Not overly bothered about losing him. He's an average league one central midfielder. If we got 6 figures for him and(big and) the fee is reinvested in the playing staff im pretty happy with that.

He's now a League Two central midfielder, average or otherwise.

Whilst I'm not a Liam Kelly detractor, that surely must say something.

  3. Doesn't make it right because others are part of the murky world. I was brought up when evey penny had to be wad accounted for.

The public, with the aid of governent officials (who themselves have hidden personal assets) have been brainwashed into accepting businesses have to be run that way.

You can go on believing hiding transactions from shareholders (which 3% of this club who are also fans are) is a good thing. I don't.

No-one's saying it's a good thing. It's just that unilateral opting-out of the practice, apart from being infeasible due to other party demands, would also not be a good thing.

  4. Got to laugh the official is reminding us that the fixtures for the coming season are being released in the morning, can I use this opportunity to remind them that its 6 :censored:ing weeks away and we are no nearer to appointing a manager we were told they hoped to have in place by the 13th June, bunch of :censored:ing amateurs.

It couldn't possibly be that every single league website gets that article automatically inserted by the people who they are run by (not the club), can't remember who it is?

For some-one as mild-mannered as myself to comment on it, really is an indicator of how tedious your desperate incessant mission to have the same go over and over and over and over ......... some time later ........ and over and over and over again really is.

  5. I'd have much preferred a partial reinvention of the old Anglo Scottish Cup. English group winners to meet similar number of Scottish clubs on a knockout basis.

What was so wrong with the Anglo-Italian Cup. In fact, imagine a lower league World Cup!! Unfortunately, I think it would have to be sponsored by an airline, or even a bunch of them. Oh well. :titanic:

  6. Hoping for a 9-0 for Swindon

Fleetwood have only picked up two points from the last 15

But bear in mind that we play Swindon on Tuesday; do we really want to meet them on the back of that? Let's hope for injuries and/or suspensions!

It could even be that a draw might be the best scenario, as I really can't see us finishing below Fleetwood, especially if we take three points from a Swindon team on a terrible trajectory downwards (they are almost in danger of being dragged in themselves).

  7. Well, the Red Rose was an intrinsic part of the club crest until relatively recently .

You're showing your age Pete! Sixty years ago (from the blog, 1946 to 1955) is not what most of us would call recently!

Still, great find, a very interesting read, thanks! Good that they end it with a compliment to our "current" badge; hope they don't update it with update it with our current monstrosity of a logo.

  8. .... We couldn't strings two passes together first half and hardly ventured into the Coventry half. It was very poor, coventry were pretty :censored:e but we were making them look good. ....

This is what I don't get about Latics at the moment. Unfortunately, my only game this season so far has been Swindon away, and from that it is clear that we have some half decent players, and we really can play much better that Nikki's quote says.

So is the manager really negatively affecting the players so much, or is he maybe not sending them out first half with rockets up their back-sides, or is it the players to blame, and how can it be so collectively, or is it just so contagious?

Also, is Coleman still injured or is he available to play cos it does sound like maybe Cornell could take a break.

I really am so confused by it all; I'm a self-confessed happy-clapper and really can't wait to be back in the North-West soon and at BP (sorry, SD.comP!) every game. But, without even attending a game my enthusiasm seems to be draining away; or is that just this darn forum and the negative ones on it??

    Keep the Faith!!

  9. Yes.

Stands are now identical to each other, which is why we ought to do our best to keep the Main Stand quirks.

I agree with your sentiment, but the Main Stand at BP really is in poor state, and even with the best will in the world, tearing it down is likely to be the only viable option for us when the time comes.

  10. Allowed to play today so is now cuptied....almost certainly rules out any move back in my opinion.

Was thinking about past comments on here about him 'finding his level' scoring in league 2....we really showed league 2 how bad it is today didnt we?!

So, by the same token, Liverpool and Everton in recent years, proved that League One standard is exactly the same as Premier League. Not to mention all the other instances of lower league teams beating higher division opposition.

Comparing 'levels' by using Cup Games does NOT stack up!!

  11. If he's one for the future, why has he only given him a deal until the end of the season...?

maybe the club has got in to dunns head about on year contracts.. used to frustrate me seeing us losing out on players because of this at least LJ tied players down

Maybe, it's because, until he's twenty-four, we would still get a fee as long as we still offer an equivalent contract?

  12. There have been a few games this season where an option of 'None of the above' was needed. Not so last night - anyone of five or six for me but I'll go for Jones with Philliskirk a close second

Rather than none of the above, I would like to see a 'Four of the above', being the whole midfield line of Jones, Kelly, Fulton and Philliskirk, all immense. And that is even being a teeny bit harsh on the rest of them!

If I can only pick one, then a massively hard choice is Philliskirk for me.

  13. Goals / highlights up on the sky sports app. Was it as one sided as the highlights make out? They show about 10 of our chances and only show their goal.

Pretty much yes, certainly in terms of creating chances and penetration.

Funnily enough, BBC shows them as having had 53% possession, which you wouldn't really expect given that domination but really, a good proportion of that was them passing the ball between keeper and defenders trying to find a pass out, before finally having to resort to riskier passes or longer, more hopeful balls into channels.

Whilst we didn't press to the intensity of the better LJ days (I really don't think Winchester seems suited to that sort of game), we did pen them in quite effectively, and stifled a lot of their game before it even got started.

  14. ...but their stubbornness in trying intricate posession football with poor players was baffling. They were brilliant last season because they had the players to play that way, but you have to be pragmatic when near the bottom. Dunn did this and reaped the rewards.

...Winchester was great in the hole as he traps Higdon's flick on's and keeps the ball up field. ...

Agree with pretty much most of that, except for

I thought Swindon had some decent players, individually; it was a cohesive plan, or maybe exoerience playing with each other that they seemed to lack. Either way, we agree they were poor overall

    and

I thought Winchester's strengths were not exploited in his role up top / in the 'hole'. For me, he's at his best getting the ball moving and making a run and I can only recall a couple of times he actually did this, and then relatively late in the game. I didn't think either that he got enough of the scraps from Higdon's hard work up front. Probably I would have swapped Winchester and Philliskirk around around, or maybe even let them rotate roles to mix it up and keep the opposition on their toes. There were definitely times when it would have been good to have Philliskirk up front, and to have had Winchester making runs inside with the ball.

Overall though, a good performance, and a well deserved three points.
