  1. And now hardly pulling up trees at Connahs Quay FC.....

Its a very big transition from the youth set up to pro contract.

Many cant handle it even with the right attitude.

Maybe in the time between first and second year they should go out and do "work experience" to show them they have the best job in the world........

  2. Museum de Latique - how did the 3 trialist look on a 90minute showing?

Where are they from too; were they young lads from Prem clubs????

    cheers,

    sly

Ben Stevens we think is Portugese as Phillipe Morais turned up at his first reserve game. Last night was his best game so far linked up well and put some nice balls about. The finish for the second goal was pretty good as well.

The other two Robert McGrady (#3) and Henry Stevens (#4) - no idea where they are from and no one is saying. Stevens made that excellent run for the first Latics goal and did little else. The full back didnt do anything wrong but nothing really of note.

Medi Abalimba - Dickpov saw something in him at Derby and Prozac predicted England quslity but I can see what he is bringing to the club. He only plays reserve games - doesnt even get in the first team squad.

Note the last few reserve games that the team is a lot more cohesive as a unit later in games when the Youth substitutes are brought on for the "more experienced" colleagues. When Matt A Carr, Sam Fitzgerald and Jack Laird came on the team upped its level a couple of notches.

BTW it would have been harsh if Burnley had been awarded a penalty late on Yes the ball struck Matt D Carrs hand but it was already in the air as he was claiming hand ball against the Burnley lad on the floor.

  3. Ive been asked to sell a set of Latics Badges.

It is a set of four badges from the play off semi final games against Blackpool in 2006/2007 season. All are numbered 13 from 15 and have a butterfly clip.

A similar set can be found on the MdL badges page on the 25th row from the top.

Seller is asking £25 for the set.

I will give it until next Sunday then list them on ebay.

  4. We start the week tomorrow (Monday 19.45) with the first team game against Tranmere Rovers.

The reserves are in action on Tuesday evening at Turf Moor (19.00) against Burnley. The Clarets are joint top with PNE and Wrexham are just a point behind so a tough game can be expected.

Next Saturday at Noon the youth team play Darlington in the Northern Final of the Youth Alliace Cup. I had been told the game was to be played at Boundary Park but I am now told is is to be at Chapel Road - possibly to cut costs.

The lads gained a 3-3 draw yesterday against Macclesfield Town at Chapel Road. They looked better than of latebut Darlington are a big side full of second year players who are on a four game winning streak. One more problem coach Philiskirk didnt need was the straight red card shown yesrerday to the talented Andrew Crompton. Not sure when his three game ban comes in but he may be unavailable for this game.

Good luck to the lads. They have has a excellent cup campaign, I for one am hopeful they will make the national final against Wycombe or Southend.

I will be doing a teamsheet but will have to lave for Notts. County shortly after the start.

The first team are away at Notts County next Saturday afternoon. KO 15.00.

For the programme collector there is a fair today at the Swallow Hotel, Salmsbury 11.00

Looking just a little further ahead the Youth team play against next Monday 4 April in the semi final of the Lancashire Youth Cup at Tranmere Rovers. The game is at Raby Vale training ground and KO is 14.00.

  7. With next weeks game against Tranmere Rovers being moved to Monday the first team have just one game.

Tuesday 22 March 19.45 at Colchester United. I heard from Colchester last week that they have scrapped the original programme and are doing a complete new issue for the game.

Next Saturday 26 March the Youth team welcome Macclesfield Town to Chapel Road (KO 11am). The lads lost for the third time in a row yesterday at Port Vale (2-0) and they lost Striker Andrew Crompton, who started with his left knee strapped up, before half time.

They could do with a win to set them up for the following week when they have two important cup games.
