  1. Next Tuesday the first team have another warm up game as the guests of Mossley FC in their Seel Park Centenary Match with Mossley legend Leo Skeete their special guest.

Adults £5/Concessions £3/ accompanied children FREE and unaccompanied children £1.

Always a warm welcome here and a smashing bar to boot (Though they cant beat £1.50 a pint of Guiness that Barrow where doing  ).

1945 is the start time and point your SatNav to OL5 0ES.

The following day (Wed at noon) the first team have another run out "behind closed doors"! against Blackburn Rovers at the Rovers training complex at Brockhall Village. SatNav BB6 8AY.

About Brockhall from Wikipedia Brockhall Hospital was once Europe's largest mental institution. It was built in 1904 as an Inebriate Women's Reformatory, later becoming a hospital for people with learning disabilities.

The hospital was closed by the NHS in 1992 as part of the government's Care in the Community policy, and the property developer Gerald Hitman, who had earlier bought the lease on the hospital, started to develop the site, replacing the hospital with a gated community, which now contains more than 400 homes, as well as the Blackburn Rovers' training ground and a hotel.

If you want to make the trip here are the directions (This is from the Bury FC website - dont know if the last bit is correct:

From the M60: Leave M60 at jct 18. Join M66 and travel on to the very end of the motorway. At the roundabout take second left A56 (A6068/M65) signposted Clitheroe. At Traffic Lights follow signs for Clitheroe. At the next set of traffic lights turn left onto A671 (Clitheroe) until the junction with the A680. Bear right at the traffic lights following signs for Whalley B6246. At the bottom of the hill you reach Whalley. Turn left at the roundabout following signs for Preston A59. When you reach the large roundabout, follow signs for A59 Old Langho 3rd exit. Turn right at the Northcote Manor Hotel and follow the road until you see signs for Brockhall Village. Once you have turned left into Brockhall Village, there is a large building on your left, which is the Blackburn Rovers Academy. You need to come to the security barrier and ask for directions to the First Team Training Ground.

On Saturday the Youth team play their second game at Bacup Borough (15.00). The game at Silsden was split into 3 x 30 min periods so this may be again.

No word on admission but league games at West View where £6 last season. With no first team game and our first visit to Borough for a while I would think a few will travel to knock it off the list.

Directions: From M62, take M66 onto A681, through Rawtenstall to Bacup Town Centre, turn left onto the A671 towards Burnley, after approx. 300 yards turn right immediately before the Irwell Inn climbing Cooper Street, turn right into Blackthorn Lane, then first left into Cowtoot Lane to ground. (OL13 3EE)

If you fancy the bus the 464 from Rochdale to the center of Bacup will leave a 10 min walk (Uphill). Follow Burnley road until just before the Irwell Inn then turn right and the ground is at the top of the hill.

Bacup is a strange place and pubs in the area are chav central. The British Queen is really the only one left in the center now so if you want a scoop I would do that in Rochdale or head for the ground where you will find the "Martin Peters Sports Bar"

If you do want to eat and drink before game I reccomend "The Rose & Bowl" in Stacksteads. Voted best pub in the Rossendale Valley last year. Owned by the company who do a lot of the catering for the sponsors at BP (Lords Catering) and run by a fantastic couple Jon & Carol. Beer not too cheap but a really good place for some scran. After the game they will have a carvery on at £5.95 and is is great value and quality.

About a mile from Bacup on the road to Rawtenstall.

  2. With pre-season training starting last Wednesday and the squad starting to take shape we can look forward to two games at the end of this week.

The youth team have the honour of first game, at Silsden of the NWCL, on Friday night - NOTE KO is 18.30

This game should have re-opened the Silsden stadium (ASDA Foundation Stadium) last season after Silsden moved back from playing their games at Keighley Cougars patch. Unfortunatley the ground was not ready and the game was moved to Chapel Road. I think the Latics lads won 2-0.

Here are the address details: Address: Keighley Road, Silsden, Keighley, West Yorkshire, BD20 0EH

A629 Skipton to Keighley Road, take A6034, ground is on the left after the golf driving range.

Been past it but never been to a game there and looks a decent ground.

Admission will be £2 adults and £1 concessions.

There are no plans to do a programme but they tell me we MIGHT do a teamsheet. I will get the wife to bring her mithering head.

Also there is a new sports club which the bar will be open before and after the game.

On Saturday afternoon the first team play at Barrow again (15.00). No news on admission though Barrow did promise the details after they where set on Thursday evening though they did have two directors resign at the meeting to be fair.

One thing they did say that is would be cash on the turnstile - no buying tickets at reception like last year.

Directions: M6 Junction 36, onto A590 signposted Barrow. Follow A590 all the way to the outskirts of Barrow, entering via industrial route towards the Town Centre. Passing the fire station on the right, take the next left into Wilkie Road. The ground is on the right hand side. Post code for Sat-Nav is LA14 5UW.

As soon as I have the details from Barrow I will post them.

  3. Wow like a lot of things Latics you try and support in good faith BUT leaves a bitter taste when things like this happen. Some good stuff from Visually and can be soul destroying flogging a concept BUT lts hope its more Holiday than a long term absence. Club has a responsibility here to see things through. Even if for small numbers?

Its not just us. From what I can tell the sticker books they did for Sheff Wed havent been completed either.

Dont think its a holiday period for visually. Free market research appears to be the only reason he signs in these days.

  4. Last one was Kelly, Pogs was awesome or :censored:e - nothing in between. Crossley was steady but past it…then there's Miskelly, Day, Brill, Blayney, etc…bit unfair to group Fleming with them as he was very good at times, if a little raw...

I know Grant was the best in years BUT he wasn't ours….

Problem with Cisak is he is invloved in the Aussie Olympic qualification so would be away often for games.

  5. I actually sent an email to Alan Hardy about this the other day with the same link, not yet had a reply from him.

    Hi Alan,

This is just idea but I don't think we are in the position to totally dismiss it.

Saw this article on BBC Website and thought surely teams at a higher level than Stirling Albion should give this a try. Basically 30 players are paying £200 each to try to win a contract, so that's £6000 for the club and hopefully we unearth some quality talent give them a years contract to prove themselves. With us being at a higher level may be able to charge more than £200 and therefore make even more money for the club, sure it would create a lot of interest locally and nationally.

Think you might find that Alan is on holiday until end of next week.

  6. I did a Latics friendlies round up back in August so I thought a review of the programmes for the regular season wouldnt go amiss for the collector.

  7. The season wraps up tomorrow (Monday) evening when the Latics U-18's take on Preston North End in the Final of the Lancashire Professional Youth Cup at Boundary Park.

TP's boys came to the end of season with a couple of wins but the come up against a North End side that lost their last league game at Stockport but before the won 13 drew one and lost one since February.

Will be a toughie but they deserve a winners medal for their season.

Looking a little further ahead The fans v Staff match will be at BP on Monday 16 May 2011. 19.00 KO.
