  1. The only other large pay day I can think of was Gerrard to Everton for £1M.

Didnt Jobbo go to Leeds for a mill also? think we got 3/4 mill for shaggy marshall also when he joined ispwich in 1993. Not too mention the million we got off aberdeen for Paul Bernard(my god that ws good business)3/4 mill for warhurst to wednesday. ill stop now cos no ome likes a smart ass ^_^

  2. 1) You don't get rid of any manager unless you have somebody better lined up to replace him.

    2) I agree 2008/9 is the nemisis moment for Shez. Top 6 is the only acceptable outcome.

    3) I look at the squad and wonder who, assuming full fitness, I'd get rid of. Look at a typical teamsheet:

    Crossley - keep

Eardley - keep (would take £500k and be happy for him to go!)

    Lomax - keep

    Stam - keep

    Hazell - keep

    McDonald - keep

    Allott - keep

    Taylor - keep

    Liddell - keep

    Hughes - keep

Davies - keep (as long as he tries to form a worthwhile partnership with Hughes)

Alessandra - keep (I'd love to see him play up front with Hughes)

Smalley - keep (as cover for Liddell, not as a striker)

Gregan - keep (not sure he'd make my first team though)

Thomspon - no idea - if he's fit I'd like to know if he's actually any good

Kalala - move him out as he's no idea how to pass the ball forwards

Wolfenden - not sure if he's going to make it but not really had a chance this season

So with so many 'keeps' I have to wonder why the side rarely gelled last season.

And my thoughts turn to the manager.

    His job.

    Solve it Shez.

With all due respect it is the squad you name above which has failed to get us any further than last season when we actually reached the play-offs.

Yes we have had bad luck with injuries to key players but i fear that unless we bring in some real quality then the above set of players will drop even further behind where we anticipate ourselves to be next season. It has been a tough league it has and with the teams that may come down and stay in this division we need to bring in quite a few quality players. Imo Lidds, Stef and Lomax are not good enough and then we have the likes of Greegs and Crossley who arent exactly spring chickens. If Eardley goes then what? Thompson has been awful and is injury prone. Davies and Hughes are quality but can we keep them fit and at the club if we dont meet their expectation? If everyone of the above was to stay at the club, imo that is sending out a confusing message that what we have done this season is acceptable, and to be honest it isnt as i think we have regressed somewhat.

Out of those players named above only Crossley, Eardley, Hazell, Allott, Taylor,Hughes and Davies would be in my first eleven.(initially) Id add Gregan to those and i know it wont happen but id look for new players for rest of team and keep Lewis, Deano and Mcdonald as squad players. That would mean au revoir to Lomax, Lidds, Wolfy, Kalala, Stam and Thompson. Again not going to happen cos Lidds and Stef been offered new deals i gather and im sure Shez will give Thompson time to get fit and prove himself.

I hate to be a doom and gloom merchant but i fear us losing Eardley, Hughes and Davies at some stage if results dont go our way and what will we be left with?

I just hope we dont do any worse than we have done this year but i would love to see us have a real go next season and that means getting in the right men.

  3. Everyone knows that we have never really got over the Hughes goal at Wembley and it started the demise of our proud club... However............

If Richards does leave for a ( bigger club) the money could be the catalyst to better things....It might be saving of our club..

your entitled to your opinion and i respect that but we are in a bad way if the sale of a former youth prospect is going to turn this club around, it will take more than 20 per cent of that fee to turn is into a bigger thinking club again. for me if that does happen then i doubt we will see much of the money translated to the playing side of the club but i could be totally wrong. the past says im not.

  4. I was actually just trying to be helpful and didnt realise that they were different members or you were looking for even more members to post on YOUR thread.

Since your are a new member i thought YOU had missed the other thread , anyway ........

........so who is being patronising with your post ? :)

    many apologies, no offence meant.

  5. I don't know. Being to name replacements would mean understanding:

    - Who's available.

    - Who Sheridan wants.

    - How much money their club wants.

    - What package the player or their agent wants.

    - Whether they'd fit in the culture/dressing room atmosphere here.

    - Whether they and their family want to move to Oldham.

    - Whether they want to come here.

Short answer: I'd love to see players who would improve our squad, but I've no idea realistically of exactly who could fill those roles.

Fair point but who would you personally like if all of the above wasnt an issue, i realise at end of the day Shez will get who he wants based on all of the above.

  6.

Hmm are you making a point exile, these are different members that didnt give their opinions in the thread that you so kindly put as >> Here>>, as a member like you i am entitled to ask for other peoples opinion and not be patronised for doing so just cos it so happens it may be in another thread. Thanks for your contribution though!!

  7. Most skilful player at the club according to what Shez and Mark Crossley said at Boundary Blues party on Monday. Not sure that's saying a lot to be honest but he is obviously held in high regard and i assume that the 3 yr deal is to increase his value to would be suitors if he turns out as good as he is potentially showing. There is no doubt in my mind he could be a championship player if we get there in those 3years. I just hope we don't deal with him like we did Scott Spencer (remember him) although i wont hold my breath.

  8. Bit of a contentious one this but that's why we are all here to have a good debate.

It is my opinion and that is all so no grief please, that i don't think Shez will be here for the start of next season, i truly hope i am wrong.

I just sense that his frustration with the lack of support and ambition from the board is starting to get him down. His hands are tied and i don't think he is all that happy about having to field so many youngsters even if it is standing us and them in good stead.

How many times this season have we heard that the players we are after want too much money etc, it always comes from Shez but i think it is filtered down form the board that basically they are not prepared to fund new signings mid-season. We will see if the same applies in the post and close season.

What happened to the Trotman money, we have brought in the usual loan players in and that is it, it is the same story with the board and i worry that either Shez will walk or the "3 amigos!!!" will lose patience with a manager ultimately more ambtious than them.

I have no doubt we will bring players in but at what price, i reckon at least 4 experienced 1st team players will depart and in the long run we will be no closer to what we want and i dont think Shez will stand for it.

  9. We all know that the prevarications of Oldham Council have delayed, and almost derailed, Latics’ stadium development plans. On May 1st there are elections to the Council, and no doubt many people will have received leaflets from the various candidates.

In November 2007 I sent an email to my 3 local councillors, including Cllr Val Sedgwick (Lib Dem, Saddleworth West and Lees), asking her to support Oldham Athletic’s stadium redevelopment plans, which as we all know were originally refused by the local planning committee. As I’d not had a reply after more than 2 weeks I sent a written letter as a reminder to Cllr Sedgwick in December 2007. To this day I’ve still not had a reply.

Now Val Sedgwick is standing for re-election and asking for my vote. As she can’t be bothered replying to my correspondence, I can’t be bothered voting for her.

I’d also urge other Latics’ supporters to only support candidates or councillors who have supported the club’s vital redevelopment plans.

This is one of the few occasions our voices can be heard.

    :comeon:

ere ere, im more inclined to not vote full stop.

  10. I think Shez will be going for players he knows a bit about myself. Creature of habit that he is and all that.

    Doug Livermore

Decent shout of him arriving. Depends how much interest there are for him. Shez likes him and wanted to keep him on so every chance he'll revisit this in the summer. Personally, he'd be a good catch. Pretty consistant and naturally left sided so gives us options.

    Jason Jarrett

Similarly, Shez likes him (despite their little spat during the Millwall game), but I don't think he's as consistant as Livermore. Had we not seen his performance against Huddersfield which was nothing short of brilliance then I'd not be bothered. Don't be surprised to see him here permanantly in the summer.

    Leon Clarke

This is Shez's #1 striker target I think and would really give us lots of options up front. Depends what's on the plate for him to accept but may have to take a step down to this level anyway.

    Paul Murray

A possible but very much a risk signing given his injury record since he left. Not sure he's the creative influence we need either, but he'd be a decent replacement for Gary McDonald should he leave.

    Leon Constantine

Plan B after Clarke I imagine. Has done quite well as he's gained fitness and has a proven track record at this level. Wouldn't be on Leeds-level take-home pay but will be without a club this summer.

    David Perkins

I'm sure Shez is aware of this lad, he's been to watch them a few times recently. Wellens-style tenatious midfielder who can tackle better than Richie (but then who can't?). Certainly would be gettable, perhaps for a fee and would most definitely strengthen our squad.

    Danny Schofield

Well known that he is leaving the club in the summer. I think if we get him, then I don't think we'd get Livermore so it's a bit of an either/or. With him on one side and either Smalley/Liddell/Taylor on the right then we'd have tremendous balance and a real threat from either side.

    Adam Rundle

Probably an alternative or plan B for Schofield.

Good shout that, wouldnt mind seeing 2 or 3 of those here, i particularly like Jarrett, but personally think we may have competition for him. Any ideas on who Shez may fancy as a keeper cos i think Crossley may well move on or into coaching side of club and young Bell is clearly not ready and the club havent had confidence in him at any stage of season to step up so i doubt he is going to make it here anyway.

  11. Our major downfall for the last 2 years has been the strength of our squad rather than the actually quality of the players.... I would only possibly offload 1/2 of the current squad such as wolfy and maybe kalala. But bring in 4/5 new faces, IMO that is what we need for promotion. People need to remember that we have offloaded 2 players already this season in pogliacomi and Ricketts so i dont think many more need to go.

    1 new GK

    1 new CM

    1 new Striker

    1 new RW/LW

    Possibly 1 new CB/LB cover (i.eLivermore)

Agree with you that they dont need to go but i imagine Crossley, Liddell and Mcdonald will be amongst our higher earners and it stands to reason that they may well have to be offloaded to bring in younger, although not necessarily better players. It has always been the case. I sincerely hope we keep Crossley in some capacity at the club.

I cant see everyone signing new contracts and Shez bringing 4/5 new players on top of that, although i could be completely wrong. Imo I envisage it will be 4/5 out and 4/5 in im afraid. It wont be too bad if they get the quality right.

  12. Doubt we could even muster enough cash to sign Boulding, besides he has flattered to decieve when he has played at a higher level previously.

Think we are ok up front if we can keep Davies and Hughes fit and compliment them with young Allesandra and Smalley then we are not too bad.

More interestingly is that Shez said he wants 4 or 5 players at the boundary blues do, but who will leaving the club?

From what i can gather Andy Liddell, Gary Mcdonald, Stefan Stam and Kelvin Lomax amongst others are out of contract.

With the possible exception of Lomax, i think we need to keep the other 3 to progress on from where we currently are.

2 players i would like us to sign are former player Paul Murray who is at Gretna. Gretna are in trouble and will probably let him go for free. He is still only 31, was a classy player and he will give us options, particularly if Mcdonald or Liddell are no longer here next season.

The other player i like is a defender, Patrick Kisnorbo who is at Leicester, he is a big solid lad and ive seem him play a few times and he looks decent, im not sure wether he will be allowed to leave if Leicester stay up but if they go down then he may want a new challenge, no idea of what fee he may command or wages but hes the sort of player id look at.

Finallly if Shez was to look at bringing in another striker and keeper then i dont think he could any worse than Keigan Parker at Blackpool(doubtful i know) and Lutons keeper Dean Brill who has lived up to his name in many big games for them this season.

I realise that money and wages is always a stumbling block but i believe we should be able to attract players of similar ilk to the above if we are to finally get promotion.
