  1. Very true. Those who have taken a position so soon are being ridiculed - yet the second half performance on Monday night was all so familar. Dickov failed toadd fire to the players, we lacked leadership, we conceded some dreadful goals, we lost our confidence, heads dropped, and our shape was lost.

Yesterday's goals were extremely poor. Tarkowski is a young lad learning to play at League One level, but his attempt at a clearance before they won the corner, which lead to the goal, was just woeful. It was. That's nothing to do with age. He's been heading the ball for a long time.

We bemoan the goals we concede, but Dickov and Taggart have failed to improve on these mistakes. If it was a new set-up it'd be a different story, but we, as fans, know Dickov and his style and for me he isn't tough enough. It is rubbish that just because we haven't got the money to challenge MK Dons - I don't criticise us losing to them, it's the manner in which we did - we can't have success. We see it every year and we'll no doubt see it again this year. Stevenage and Carlisle both challenged the top-six last year.

It's the attitude of both the manager and the players that frustrates me. I'm not worried at all, but because it is Dickov's third year with us I will very much take a position after next Saturday. If he continues to look clueless on the touchline - as he did on Monday - I will give him stick. I like Dickov and I feel for him whenever we lose, but what was the difference between him and Jones? Jones roused his side both on the touchline and in the changing rooms. Can Dickov do that? Can he really get the best and extra from his players? No. He's proved that already.

We can't expect a convincing win against MK Dons etc but I demand, and this is where Dickov is too soft, we match them man for man. They're better, so what? I didn't see Furman or Wesolowski want to upset the Wednesday players. We lack a snarl, we lack grit about us. We can't win many football matches when we perform poorly - and this has been the case for two seasons. Ultimately, I don't think the players are scared of Dickov.

As I say, I didn't expect a win yesterday but I'm not happy. If we've become one of those clubs that accepts a 2-0 loss no questions asked I worry. Dickov's comments after the match were so disappointing to hear. It was very much "ah well, what can you do?". It didn't sound like we made the Dons' players feel uncomfortable, scared or rattled - and if you lose that about your game you won't get very far.

I'm behind Dickov and the players, but I've grown weary of the soft attitude he and some of our fans show towards the club. As Joe has said, we've into our third year of Dickov and I couldn't care less if we "play good football". Bollocks to that - go to MK Dons, who seemingly were below par, show some fire, guts and grit and come off the pitch saying "we lost, but we couldn't do any more". I haven't seen us lose for a long time knowing that.

But there we are - it's only the first game of the season.

This post, and also what joe said on the previous page are absolutley bang for me.

This is not a reaction post to losing two games against some good oppo, as others have said it's the manner. We are small 3rd division club, we will get beat quite a lot, I can accept that to certain degree. However there is much wider issue's. Dickov seems a geniunely nice bloke, he seems able to attract some decent players to the club, but does he get the best out of them? Tactically he is so one dimensional it's unture. That's ok though because he learning his trade, well he's had over two years to watch football never mind all the managers he played under; and two years in his one sub is stick the big man on. Predicatble. We must be one easiset teams to scout. How many leads have we given away under his tenture? So how is he motivating the players? Why can we only play at a good tempo for sixty mins, dickov said about ten days ago the players where breaking all their own fitness levels recorded from the previous pre-season. An then against sheff weds after an hour we're fooked. Again.

Im sick to the back teeth of we're skint, what do you expect. Well Corney keeps finding fees for playes; Ciask and Montano spring to mind.

Corney is very astute, he runs a tight ship but look back and every manager he's had, he's backed. This is the key for me, has dickov in his time at the club got the absloute best out of his squad and his COMPETITIVE BUDGET? Does he look like he has progressed as a manager? Has he impproved any of the players, in particular any of the kids?

People talk about giving managers time but are we honestly saying that two and a bit years isn't enough time to be seeing improvments, or the side and dickov to be learning from their mistakes. I don't expect us to go up, but there is no way with how he has been backed and the time he's had in the job, that we shoud be struggling as we have previously, an i suspect we will again this year.

I've said before when critcising players or the management i don't want them to fail. On the contrary i'd love to see dickov do well particularly as he seems a decent sort. This is his squad an you do need ten games to get a feel of where your season is going. I hope he proves me wrong and makes this post look silly with a top half finish. An above all i'd love it if we're not highlighting issues that we saw last season and the one before....

    Sadly, I doubt it.

  2. Bit of side issue to main thread, but still relevant when discussing potential targets.

Why do people insist we are totally skint, and should always be looking at the very bottom (which tonk isn't far off) of the barrell with 'our budget'?

For a club of our size and current fan base we pay way above what 'our budget' suggests we can afford.

last season. Kuqi, mvoto, wes, simpson, diamond, ciask (whom we paid a bit for as well) all on very decent money. Not to mention all the loans.

Corney IMO is a master at making it look like we are one step away from the brink and maintains the illusion that we have got sweet FA

Yet we quietly sign players that if we were really that skint we should have no chance of signing.

Point being i think with a bit of thought we could do financailly better than tonk, and certainly as phil said if kuqi stays.

  3. I've posted before that i got no interest in making a player a boo boy, suggestions to the contrary are a load of bollocks. It implies i want dickov to sign :censored: players, and somehow revel in their :censored:ness; and misses the point. Of the two games i've seen - Against sheff utd, reid was awful. Simple. Yesterday he played well, credit to the lad. I said after the first game he didn't compete, his hold play was sloppy and above all his attitude was the pits. Yesterday his first touch was much better, he showed lovely vision with some of his passing, and when he lost the ball he hassled it back. Much, much better performance.

Just because i come on here and i say i thought he was piss poor in a game, dosen't mean i want him hounded out of the club, or that i dont want him to succeed, Or that i decide before the next game that i will get my boo boy comments ready. In the time he's been at the club, he shown glimpses of really good feet, lovely vision and awareness, and can finish- notts county away sticks in the mind. On the other hand, last season and sheff united there was a lot of huffing and puffing, a lack of desire, and his general play very untidy.

If he can keep yesterday up, which we all want, then happy days. If he reverts to what i've seen in the majority of his time at the club, then id rather give someone else go.

  4. I post very rarely, but in the time owtb has been going the two subjects i have posted on was keigan parker and yesterday with rueben. The two of them are made from the same stuff for me. BOTH HAVE TALENT, but fundamentally both think there are a lot better than they are, and both have a horribe attitude. In my view that is the worst 'type' of player. They play for themselves - that's fine if your ronaldo, but not if your average player with the potentail to be half decnt. Fans on here talking about, he needs service, or games, or the ball to feet, or the team to understand him (all valid points in there own right) miss the caentral point; if he had all of those things, he would still moan and whige and not lose weight,or work, or run, or win a header, why? Because he's rueben rein, he doesn't need to.

  5. That is what I'm annoyed at. Its fine if it doesn't affect your career (well actually its not), but he is on last chance saloon and forget everyone going on about him taking a paycut and he is going to be up for it...................

I'm a couple of stone heavier than I should be but my career doesn't depend upon it (let's face it PD didn't want him back and neither did most of us but some daft clause has made us have to take him) - so he would have got in shape if he cared.

He bloody well wasn't up for it,and that annoys the :censored: out of me. He is 2 stone too heavy and he doesn't give a :censored: IMO. Thats what annoys me, he's another talented player who doesn't want it enough.

    Do one Rueben!

Spot on. You can see there is a player in there, somewhere, but his attitude is awful. If his hunger matched what bit of talent he has shown, he could be half decent. It's so frustrating to watch someone moaning, whingeing, and generally blaming everyone else for the fact that he is playin :censored:. Any Chance you could take some responibility for your weight, fitness, and attitude rueben?

  6. To be fair he actually took up some nice positions today and looked pretty frustrated at his team mates never really finding him when he did. He showed a few nice touches and some bad ones but if you expect him to chase lost causes all day long you're gonna be disappointed, that's not who he is and he never will be. There was one moment in the first half that particularly stands out. Cross came in from Black, Smith went for goal with little pace on the cross and him fairly static so having to generate all the power himself, Reid had pulled away from his man for an easy knock down but he was ignored when it would have been a certain goal. He looked bemused to say the least as was I, but you know, strike parnterships need a bit of time to come together properly. The big problem isn't that reid lacks ability or that he's particularly lazy, it's that Oldham fans love a headless chicken. If we had a team of headless chickens giving it their all and got relegated, most of our fan base would be chuffed to bits it seems.

I should add I thought Parker played reasonably well and this isn't a reference to him. He looked ridiculously quick and pressurised the defence with little reward but showed little in terms of technical ability apart from one very decent cross (because the service was :censored: mainly, rather than him doing anything wrong). Reid is this year's scapegoat though, tell your friends.

I've got no interest in making any player a scapegoat. It amazes me how you can't give an opinion on a player without someone implying it's a witch hunt. Nor am am interested in watching chickens play headless or not. I'd love reid to do well, the lad went for 500 grand not a long ago, scored a few for walsall and occasionally shows good feet. I also take the point about the service, which was very poor. However today, in the first game of the season; he looked overweight, slow, and his body language was awful. His reaction to be taken off was baffling, throwing his arms about like he had scored hat trick and been hauled off. He got subbed because although the team struggled creativly, his contribution was below zero. I'm not expecting him to run all day, or chase a lost cause(that would be to much). I wouldn't though mind though if he won one header, didn't winge when he lost the ball, did his his best to get in the game, (especially when your teamates are struggling to find you, or the service is poor) and tried to justify the faith that dickov has in him. Inseatd walking around like the world owes him a favour.

  7. All i ask any player is that they put a shift in. I don't mind if they are :censored:, i support a skint third division side. Reid today didn't even want to run, or chase down a single loose ball, (never mind win a header, or go in where it hurts) attribtes that don't need ANY technical ability. It's not beong doom and gloom, it's just stating the obvious- he can't be arsed. Cheers reuben.
