  1. You know Delfer, thank you for taking the time to post that. I certainly can see more clearly where you are coming from. I would much rather a good honest discussion like this than some short quips, I do believe I have misunderstood you just reading those. Defiantely about Corney now you have put some flesh on the bones.

I completely agree Simon Corney is not doing it just to keep a few on here happy! But as you would probably expect I don't agree about him overall, it would be boring if everyone agreed about everything. I do enjoy a good debate/chinwag.

I have always respected that as a season ticket holder, and more especially one for so long.

Of course, you have every right to do as you please, of course that is your privelege. After so long you have paid your penneance!

I just think we are in a better postion than we have been for a while despite some obvious problems.

Beleive me I am not judging you, just my observations from afar and what you have posted, and also happy to bat posts back and forth. I am genuinely apologetic if has come across as judging you,no way have I any right to do that.

BTW I am defaintely not one of the Ultra's (for starters I cannot get to games!), it's my birthday tommmorow and I will be nearer 50 than 40. I really know what you mean about a young 'uns game, that strikes a cord.

I left Uppermill (iggle before that) not long before you started getting a season ticket. That is something you should be proud of, and you deserve all the credit for it.

And cheers for the tip on Bruce Springsteen, I did not know about that. It is amazing how his songs like my hometown have a resonance again in this bad economic times.

Please don't leave this board, and please leave the door open for renewing your season ticket again.

I completely respect your decision not to, even if I donlt quite udnerstand it, but implor that you postpone that decision for the summer at least.

Tried to send a private message but your inbox must be full.

All the best, thanks for your kind words

  2. How long will it take for the property prices to incerease for SC to make barrowfuls of money. A very long time.

Why should he not aspire to make some money, part of what is wroing with this country is how bitter people have become about those that do try. North Korea might be worth a look.

I cannot beleive of all the bad times we have had, that you have decided to bail out now. It has to be one of the last worst bad times, and all because you still believe Sion Corney is sitting on a gold mine.

    Unbeliveable Jeff.

Last comments - I thought you might pipe up Singe. If you care to read what I said my reasoning for not buying a season ticket next year is nothing to do with Corney and his investment - he deserves a good return given his patience. I was merely pointing out to Diego that in my opinion he has reasons for staying, not just to keep a few people who post on here happy! I've had enough and will pick and choose my games as is my privelege, as was yours when you moved down south for a job or loved one probably - and yet you see yourself auhorised to sit in judgement of others? I stand by my comments about the town not deserving a club - it grates a bit when people from afar seem keen to judge the situation with perpetual sniping.

As for the 23 year old who insisted I should "keep the faith" - trust me I was like you once. You're probably one of the Ultras! - better be careful.

Finally, yes I will :censored: off, as I said in a private message I don't call a few messages in one day, the first time in almost 12 months attention seeking!

    Live and let live

PS - By the way, i know you're a Bruce fan, they're releasing a track per day from the new Springsteen album - see his site for details. It's an angry album apparently - enjoy!

  3. Bit baffled by this talk of compensation as I am sure season ticket holders still get the best deal all round if you do the maths.

The dearest season ticket at BP was £329, which equates to £14.30 per game, in addition to

    - A reserved seat every game

    - First dibs on away matches and cup tickets

    - Friend for a fiver voucher

    - Vouchers to use in club shop

    The golden ticket games consists of 2 Cat B games and 3 Cat C games. So working on the most expensive ticket, the maths is (23 x 8) + (18 * 6) + (15 x 4) + 15.

So for a fan who doesn't have a season ticket, but intends to attend every home game, the total price for all the games including this offer is £367. If this offer would not have been announced then the price for paying on the door for 23 games would be between £410 (assuming you sat in the paddock every game) to £433 (assuming you sat in chaddy, rre or main stand upper every game) over the course of the season.

So taking into account the golden ticket offer, and the perks that come with a season ticket, the cheapest option for fans who wish to attend every game is still a season ticket bought up front, and I would guess this may also apply to season tickets bought on finance, although if anyone who bought a £329 season ticket on finance can say how much it cost them including interest, would be appreciated.

    :headbang:

The executive tickets are double that mate. Plus the others who regularly pay for the private boxes (portacabins). They might only be a small minority - bit like the small amount of people on here who regularly post, they don't represent the majority.

  4. When they bought the club yes, but the whole world has gone to the pot since then. The land is not worth anywhere near what it was, and why wouldn't he have sole the land in the summer? Or any other time for that matter, he may sell and then you can stick out your chest and shout from the hilltops how you were right. Until then have a little more faith, what else would he have to do to prove he isn't out to make money from Latics? Fund £500,000 a year to keep a stadium going he could sell? Oh wait......

And property prices will never go back up eh? Part of me hopes you're all right but I reckon even if he turns out to be an ongoing nutter who will continue to "show faith and keep losing money" the club will still continue to diminish. The truth is Oldham doesn't deserve a team. This will be my last season ticket; after 37 years of support I really didn't care if the penalty against Walsall went in or not, I just wanted to go home. I've had enough, good luck you you all.

  5. That's total crap. How the hell is he ever going to get his money back, no matter how long he hangs on? The club (and SC) is losing shedloads of money every week. The crowds are poor, the ground costs a fortune to maintain, but you think he's going to hang around until it all suddenly becomes a profitable business.

The only way it will be profitable for him personally is if Roman Abramovich's brother (or some such luminary) buys the club, pays off SC and the other two Amigos plus a big golden handshake. The alternative to that is if Billy Abramovich just gives SC and the club the money and says, "There you goski. Carry onski." At which point SC says, "Ta very much. I have my money back, so I'll sell the club and bugger off".

Oh, hang on, no bugger wants it.

    Now who's dreaming.

The Land. It will be worth something. That's not crap. How else do you explain a continuing desire to lose money, eh?

    Lemmings.......................

  6. After last Saturday's result, reinforcing the current slump in form, which if continued will lead to relegation, and the continuing drop in the Club's income with no investor in sight, I've been desperate for a glimmer of hope that the Club can survive.

For my 16,000th post I think I've found the "dramatic" part of the 'Golden Ticket' announcement. It's the bit that reads:

Mr Corney added that the size of the turnout for the FA Cup tie at Liverpool reinforced his belief that there is still potential and he remains fully committed to the club. He says "This gesture is done for the club and for the fans. It is of no benefit to me personally as I will take a big hit financially".

On the basis of the devil you know, I'm clinging onto that desperately as my glimmer of hope.

He's hanging on to get his money back, that's all. Wake up.

  7. All you tossbags, already we were assuming we were at Wembley as soon as we drew out Chesterfield. Posting seating plans of Wembley stadium. Planning where best to sit. How to get down there.

I HOPE YOU'RE ALL HAPPY WITH YOURSELVES.

Yes - back to the original post; too much complacency on here from the expert anoraks, some of whom never :censored:in attend. My concern is our tactics, comments like " we can only play one way"....mmm just made it easier for Shez. We need more creativity in selection, substitutions etc.

  8. Some good points made there. i was having some banter with a red fan on FB last week (typical red, never goes can't get a ticket etc etc) and he says his son (who has been to a few Latics games) came back from Old Trafford, his first Utd game,, buzzing & singing " we all hate Leeds Scum" - that was after playing Basel

Not racist, maybe pushing the boundaries? I don't know - at 50 maybe it's my age? When the whole thing is analysed its tribal and rules are difficult to draw up & impossible to enforce, as the blog hints at - the answer is self governance I think.

For what it's worth the Ian Moore song was easy to sing and quite catchy for our young "boot boys" - probably nothing more sinister!

  9. It's nothing personal - just a massive bugbare of mine!

I don't have a problem with insentives to diversify a population. It's a long term positive. However you rightly point out that this should not putting ability to do the job as a secondary factor.

I think you mean bugbear Ackey

Sorry it's just my bete noir

  10. :censored: me this thread's full of ignorance and tabloid fuelled horse :censored:.

Agreed - for an informed view people should chat to Ollie Holt from the Mirror on twitter, he's on a mission with this. If the different views are articulated properly he will debate all day, but he's had to put up wuth lots of abuse just for raising the issue!

  11. I think for our budget, we may have the best creative mid's we can get in taylor and morais, but are being wasted on the wing, morais especially. I'd say get in a pacy winger, who doesn't mess about with fancy tricks etc, just knocks ball past oppo and sticks in a decent cross and have Morais in a free role in and around the striker, linking midfield and attack. Don't think can expect much today and tomorrow, recently with playing 1 up front, we don't need another striker in, as Reid upfront by himself, we have good enough cover in Smith and Parker once fit, and can see them getting around 30-40 between them (hopefully). However, someone half decent will become available, and might be able to tempt them in, but think it's more likely we'll see a loan from prem club.

Taylor and/or Morais could be used centrally but not in a flat 4-4-2, they could play in a 4-2-3-1, like they did to good effect a couple of times last season. But they need proper midfielders behind them.
