  1. Apologies. This is an open forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion and can say what they like subject to the mods intervention.

Personally, on reading through the original post my thoughts turned to 300 innocent victims (not just the Newcastle fans) who'd been shot down and killed in a plane attack and how their families must be feeling. Answer is, I hope I never find out.

Other people may have read the subsequent posts of condolence and thought why has Simon Corney changed the naming rights to Boundary Park and allowed it to be called sportsdirect.com Park and why are other posters referring to the ground as that? At this point some posters may then have thought, I know rather than commenting on this topic to pass on my condolences to the 300 innocent victims who have died in this inexcusable act. Instead, I should raise the point again in this post (not that there are numerous other topics and pages and pages of debate about the name change), as to how the name of Oldham Athletic's ground has been changed from Boundary Park to sportsdirect.com Park even though it has absolutely no relevance whatsoever with the topic I'm writing about.

As mentioned above, everyone is entitled to posting an opinion on an open forum and I apologise for referring to you as a knob.

  2.

Can we call it Boundary Park, or BP. Just because we can, like? Leave the SDP or sports-direct-dot-com park to journos and that fella who tries to shoehorn funny quips in the goals roundup on the Football league Show.

Frankly Mr Shankly is leading my vote for knob of the week on OWTB with this post. As mentioned by others leave this for another topic

  3. First and obviously last game of the season for me today at BP. Caught 5 away games (will not count Liverpool as a true comparison) being a southerner nowadays. Be interesting to think what a fan who doesn't see a lot compares to the regulars. So here goes...

Chubs - always in the right place at the right time. Some good saves today.

Grounds - not great today, but up against a good right winger and generally one of our better players. Those who think we won't miss him are not footballers.

    Wilson - looks superb

Lockwood - looks solid, but slow and gives away a lot of stupid fouls.

Brown - looks good whenever I see him play. Most improved.

    Worrall - Alright. Nothing special.

Wes - consistent. Need to keep.

Smith - class above the rest.

Harkins - slow, can't put in a shift, tries too much and gives the ball away (puts on hard helmet as it appears he's loved). Now and a again beats a man ( but then gets caught).

Philly - Good footballer, wrong position.

JCH - potential. Doesn't score enough and gets left on his own (not his fault)

    Subs

Winchester - Good footballer and should have played more. Has quality but doesn't use it.

MacDonald - looked good at Stevenage, since then... no!

Dayton - has potential and glimpses of quality.

    Millar - Goodbye

    Byrom - adds nothing

  4. As a southern based fan I've only seen him play three times, but he has comfortably won worst player on the pitch every time. Though I will take people's word that he's better than Messi in the games I haven't seen.

Football - an opinions game. He's worse than Phil Starbuck and Jim Gannon!!

  5. We were rubbish. They were the worst team I have ever seen in the final third. Even with our defence I never thought they world score if we played till midnight.

    Great win!!!

Off topic. Being a southern based fan that's only the second time I've seen Harkins and twice he has been by far the worst and one of the slowest footballers I have ever seen on a football pitch. Either I'm really unlucky and see his crap games or everyone else is high when they see him play

  6. Played well. With a striker we could have won that game... JCH (x2) and Philly passed back to their keeper when in good positions in 1st half and MacDonald hit the corner flag when through 1 on 1 from 8 yards out with 5 minutes left.

As an out of towner nowadays I assume I saw the St Mirren version of Harkins tonight after reading he was god as he did nothing all game. At least Korey Smith scored a wonder goal to earn the entrance fee. What a hit!!

  7. I can understand people's concerns due to this seasons performance but I'm personally really happy about this.

It's his first season as a manager and he's shown a lot of promise thus far -

    1. Brought in some decent players - Korey Smith being one...even before LJ joined us

    2. Creating a team built on exciting, passing play on the pitch

    3. Forging some strong links with the likes of Liverpool in the Prem and teams in lower leagues with promising players

    4. Shown that he's decisive when striving for success - getting rid of Rooney as one example, Schemltz another

    5. Not prepared to take any :censored: from players - again Rooney, Rusnak etc

    6. Been unlucky with some players - Montano for obvious reasons

    7. Been unlucky with some players failing to deliver - Rooney and Schmeltz

    8. Young, driven, enthusiastic...could easily afford not to work I understand due to property empire but wants to manage, wants to succeed and wants to win

    9. Connected with the majority of the fans has great PR skills as a manager

We've struggled this season but it's his first season and what do you expect with inexperience? He needs a season or two to develop consistency, wheel and deal, imprint his work ethic through the whole team and squad, achieve success.

We've been impatient for a while, hiring and firing managers, chopping and changing playing personnel and it's led to failure time and time again.

About time we committed to a young, hungry, passionate manager who displaying all the necessary skills and potential

Well done LJ and here's to a long and successful career at Oldham Athletic

Regarding point 3. Have I missed something. Who has LJ brought in from Liverpool since he took over? I don't see where everybody gets this impression from. Is it because their manager contributes to the club by paying £4 to attend reserve games?
