  1. Okay I'm going to admit to only reading the opening post so sorry if something along these lines has already been mentioned.

I am against the pink kit idea as it stands at the moment. I feel Latics are going about it all wrong. Its all good and well wanting to raise money for a very worthwhile cause and help raise their profile but as it stands at the moment, how much money do they think they are going to raise?

Lets say each of the 16 matchday shirts are auctioned off for between £200 and £500 each that is a minimum of £3200 and a maximum of £8000. Now lets say out of the whole Rochdale Road End that Leeds have been allocated 1000 of their fans throw in a quid thats £1000. Now lets assume half the Latics fans (reduced numbers because Leeds have the whole of the RRE) throw in a quid each and that is around £3500. So I make out that Latics could make, if everything goes well, £12500. I'm sure the recipent of the charity would be very greatful, but I'm also sure that Latics could do alot more. They could have taken orders of the shirt between now and the Leeds game when all orders cease. They then put the orders in to the manufactor who supplies the demand to Oldham Athletic with all profits from the £40 shirt going to charity. I would hazzard a guess that they would sell at least 1000 shirts at £40 a pop, then you can have your auction and your bucket collections and probably make over £50000 for charity. A freind who I work with has just raised £7500 for charity on his own for running an Iron Man event in France and he is only one man. Surely Latics could be doing alot more? Although like I said I'm sure the Victoria Breast Unit will appreciate all the help and exposure the club are creating for them, yet £50K is alot closer to £250K then £12.5K.

I see what you're saying, but it isn't really a reason to be against it? I'm sure the unit would be more than grateful for the £12500 you suggest, but shirts aside I'm sure the raised profile of the charity via the exposure Latics have given it will raise a whole lot more that can't be quantified. Its the sort of thing that'll bring in donations from far and wide and from people who would never have heard of the charity otherwise.

I do think however more money could be made raffling the matchday shirts, on a borough/local basis cos I'm sure people with not interest in Latics would stump up a quid or two for a ticket. As for Latics selling replicas, well people now in the heat of the moment and being proud of what we've done say they'd buy one, but when push comes to shove and Latics stocked them would they still do it?

  2. Jesus. People are allowed to vote on a poll without justifying theirself to you

I thought I'd asked a sensible polite question out of genuine interest, I didn't ask anybody to justify themselves, and in return you'll notice sensible replies from people, that's if you can be bothered to extend yourself to actually reading them. Or is the best use of your time to post miserable otiose one liners like that? If so then its says way more about you than me.

  3. I'm one of the dirty dozen.

I voted before the announcement came out (pardon the pun) but still my answers remain the same.

If the first question was "Would you support the club playing in a one off pink kit in a game to raise awareness for breast cancer" I would have voted yes. My answer to the 2nd remains the same though, I wouldn't buy a pink kit and don't have any plans to buy a blue one either.

Thats why I said that first thing yesterday there were 12 people against the one off kit idea, fine that was before the announcement of our clubs support for an utterly worthwhile and deserving local cause. So I guess you are not one of the dirty dozen! You voted before.

It was more aimed at the people who still voted no once they knew what it was all about, so really the first question doesn't need rewording, does it?

I wasn't so bothered about not buying a shirt, I'm with you on that one, gave up aeons ago on shirts, easier to make a donation straight to them.

  4. First thing yesterday there were 12 people against the one off kit idea, fine that was before the announcement of our clubs support for an utterly worthwhile and deserving local cause.

Now this morning 5 more are against, 5 isn't a lot I know but its 5 too many isn't it? Can I ask those against what it is they have against this idea. Not so everybody can rip them to shreds I am genuinely interested to know what the problem is.

As far as I can see 1 of the original 12 has admitted to a d'oh moment, but what of the others?

Would any of you please kindly explain why you don't support the initiative and therefore why it's a bad idea.

    Like I say genuine question.

  5. That's not a bad idea, there's not much point me bidding in the auction for the matchday shirts - but I'll buy one in the shop, and maybe a percentage of the price could go to the charity as well? We'll see what we can do...

Or why not raffle the shirts off £1 or £2 a go (maybe more?). That way lots of people will have chance to win one whilst contributing to the charity instead of the 17 with the greatest ability to splash some cash getting them, again!

  6. Is it just me or does Sean Gregan look like a giant uncooked Richmond sausage?

Could the 12 folks who've voted in the poll above against the idea explain in simple terms if they are still against this initiative by the way.

Also now the idea and benefactors have been announced would the 12 like to change their vote?

    Just curious like.

  7. Davies is a good player but needed a change, could end up playing for a top Championship team if he sorts himself out

Will he though? 7 or is it 8 clubs down the line now at such a young age. Doubt he will, sad but as its been said before he won't be the first to waste a shed load of potential. Still maintain that in a few seasons time we'll all be watching the first round FA Cup highlights and Mr Davis will pop up scoring a goal for Dorchester or some other non league outfit. Hope he proves me utterly and totally wrong mind because I hate to see people waste their given talents, we'll see.

A great interview by the puppet tho'.

Oh and I think in Only One Jimmy Fryatt another potential cult has been born.

  8. This time two years ago, there was no chance Blackpool would finish third.

Ohhhhhh be careful Corporal Jones will be after you!

We'll get a play off spot minimum. Nothing that happens at this level of football should surprise us, inconsistency, injuries/suspensions to small squads, pressure all tell at the end. Mentioned this a couple of weeks back, somebody reminded me about Forest last season. After 39 games they were 11 points behind second place, having played a game more, I bet not many at Forest thought they had a cat in hells chance of owt but the play offs. I wasn't sure about this info then, so I checked it out and here it is:

    Carlisle go up?????

Now just let me spell this out. This doesn't of course mean Latics will do the same, it doesn't mean Latics current position is fine because "look what Forest did", it doesn't mean anything like this will ever happen again. It simply means "football is a funny old game", and whilst we're on cliché bingo, "it's not over until the fat lady sings". I just thought I'd better point that out for Corporal "the cult" Jones!

  9. I expect that quote to be on SSN within the hour...

I rather hope that Shez opens a packet of Polo's in a future interview, or at least Gordon offers him one! Obviously Gordon would have the packet handed to him a nano second before the interview began to ensure one being left for Shez by its end!

  10. What's the point in your post other than to get personal....

Yes the point Mr KTF made is personal as far as I can see, and shock horror quite amusing.

Why post back with such a banal reply, as they used to say "like a big girls blouse"

Either have a pop back or ignore it ffs, its not difficult.

Bloomin' 'eck some of the folks who inhabit these 'ere boards these days have skin tinner than a rice puddin'.

And that DW1968 is one of the reasons people don't post as much as they used too.**

** sorry DW this is extreme delayed replying, saw your reply to me WestHam/Millwall pre Crimbo thread a couple of weeks ago, had never seen the "raconteur" thread you mentioned in the reply. I have since searched it out and should have replied, so I have partly now, but other things come into it too, as I'm sure we probably discussed on a long thread in a galaxy far far away, well on JKL!

  11. It could be that Shez is simply copying Taggart and not speaking to some of the media, because he's sick of the pedantic nit-picking over every word he utters. .

Really DS?? You think?? Nah I never have thought people on this message board and others would pedantically nit pick over every word uttered by Shez! Oh and lets face it not only by Shez, by any media emanating from BP from the tea lady upwards. I'm sure if Shez gave an interview and opened a packet of Polo mints some dollop would pop up somewhere deciphering hidden meaning in it.

"Shez has open Polo's, that means Taylor is signing for Wolves for 750K, after all there are 2 o's in Polo and in Wolverhampton!!!"

  12. People have been calling me a cult, on and off, for most of my life. I think that's what they say, anyway.

Like water off a ducks back eh?

I apologise for not having kept a record of your reiterations regarding why Latics will go up just because other teams went up after looking, at times, as unreliable as Latics do at present.

How does one keep a record of something that doesn't exist? Just curious like.

  13. After all, I am not the one who keeps reiterating that because Blackpool won the playoffs two years ago, all is okay with Latics.

Keeps?? Keeps?? Do show me where Corp.

Besides I never said that because Blackers won the play offs all was well with Latics, but you knew that already didn't you? You cheeky little scamp you.

At the time I merely pointed it out in a "football is a funny old game" kind of way, you know team has woeful start yet triumphs in the end. I admit I did so the other day regards Forest last season because I've always thought JR's fat lady philosophy to be preferable to the one you seem most eloquent at presenting at every given opportunity.

There is that what you wanted one to say, to rise to the juicy bait? Well I aim to please and there are only so many times one can read an utter fabrication of ones previous comments without saying something. You seem to be one of those types who believe that if a conceit is presented often enough it will become fact .

Funnily enough there was another poster who used to do that, chap called TGOBM, not seen him for a while mind. He was a bit of a cult back in the day. In fact a huge cult on JKL even in its earliest incarnations. If you keep this up you could become as big a cult as he ever was. Thats not to say you aren't already a cult on here. Once I aspired to be a cult, but really I wasn't cut out for it, I thought I'd be much better leaving it to the experts, and a potentially bigger expert at being a cult I haven't seen in ages, well done Corp.

  14. Another one of Stipe Tripe's sulks put into words. For some reason he seems to take personal offence at any hint of doubt as to the health of the club or suggestion that yet another promotion push is beginning to look unconvincing.

I might not be interested in the details of what goes on at other clubs, but that doesn't mean I don't notice that other clubs manage to achieve what some on here are adamant this club is incapable of, and that is to make progress up the divisions and build their fanbase. This is somewhat different to constantly trotting out the notion that just because Blackpool (or whoever) had a bad start or a wobble and still won the play-offs a few seasons ago, this has some kind of bearing on what happens at BP. You might as well believe in the tooth fairy as see hope in this.

And he's the one who speaks of complacency.

""Waits for the reply which will explain why I don't get it, not doubt delivered with the usual smug complacency.""

You seldom disappoint do you ? In fact it is your only redeeming feature isn't it dreary, sorry deary.

  15. Other clubs that manage to achieve a thing or two manage to expand their fanbase.

Contrast the fortunes of clubs that are known to have clearly defined plans to those that merely drift along.

Hmmmmmmmmmm I thought you weren't interested in what "other" clubs did?

Like for example if I wrote that a club in the past had a bit of a dodgy run in the league but still got promoted after pulling themselves together.

You know Corp the sort of happy clappy rose tinted specs reply I might have made to one of you tiresomely moribund posts in the past.

Where your excellently thought out response would be that you weren't interested in what other clubs did? Only interested when it suits your otiose arguments eh?

Do you think I've got the time and energy to waste on devising strategies for the club that would inevitably be of no interest to those with the ability to implement them?

Well you seem to have plenty of time and energy to post all of your other thoughts, the continual familiarity of which inevitably mean they have little or no interest.

Waits for the reply which will explain why I don't get it, not doubt delivered with the usual smug complacency.

  16. :censored:

This will be my last post on here if this is the sort of utter nonsense that's going to continue.

"....same s... for the past 2 seasons...."

Ok, so how was the season prior to that? Or the one before that one? Or the one before that?

So, your defeinition of S... is a season where we made the play offs and one where we finished 8th. Compared to 10th, 19th and 15th? And then bar the money splashing C**** M**** years; 15, 14, 20, 13, 23, 18 14?

Some of the gutter moaning on here is so crass and blind to the facts it is beyond belief.

1st half was rubbish today. 2nd half was better. We didn't win though so lets all slash our wrists and sack the manager. Wah bloody Wah!

This message board is a complete waste of time. We'd get better informed opinions from the residents of bottom block.

Utterly and totally spot on Real.

  17. Is this cliché bingo?

    Pays me money - check

Lost the dressing room - check

Taken as far as he can - check

I only need tactically naive and I would have a line.

Excellent BT, funniest thing I seen on here in a long time

    Oh you should have said

I only need tactically naive & rose tinted specs and I would have a line

  18. Why hasn't this been discussed on here already?!

    That's a brilliant idea. :clown:

To be honest the club should have mentioned to you when you bought your ticket in the RRE that you would have to move on occassion. In fact they should really have knock a few quid off the price for your inconvenience.

PS: I Feel Sorry For You, It Must Be Pretty Darn Annoying When People Do The Most Pointless Things To Get On Your Nerves For No Apparent Reason.

Oh Dan you bitch, picking on Mr Newbee. Some people don't half get touchy about stuff these days. Not like th'olden days of t'interweb eh?

Anyway why should I move out of the Chaddy?

Can some of you get this into your heads? The people who sit in the Chaddy as Lags points out choose to so do and as HDGS says have done in greater numbers than the RRE all season. They sit there because that is the stand they want to watch their team from, its the stand many choose to stump their hard earned cash on a ST for. Its our team just as much as anybody elses, if I'd wanted to move to the RRE I would, but its she-ite, in my opinion.

All this crap about traditionalists just clinging on is just a smokescreen, every ST holder sat near us has tried the RRE and not one of them would swap. As for the person who said the leg room is "crap" in the Chaddy is talking utter and total bollox, in fact its a complete lie. Leg room in the CE is as good if not better than most grounds and is infinity better than the RRE, as I've found out twice this season (Morecambe & Cheltenham). As for the old chestnut of the pillars in the way, hmmmmmmmmm move yer head a couple of inches, problem solved, it aint rocket science.

Can we please give this tired sad old debate a figgin rest eh.
