I don't think it'll be dramatically less. The amount of fans to declare staunchly on social media that they won't be getting one only for doing a massive u-turn and get one ("I'm going to give them one last chance") has been ludicrous.

2 reasons.

Never assume we've hit rock bottom! Been said many times before and we keep showing that we haven't...
Rock bottom was Notts County when we were 2nd from bottom on Boxing Day. I don't expect us to ever occupy that position ever again.

Never understood the bizarre reaction of some of our fans to ex players. It didn't work out here for Banks but he quickly got some stick (and his dad) making it hard to settle - sounds familiar with some of our current crop!
He has twice won promotion from the National League and once from League 2. Who's laughing now?
Indeed. We were in L1 which is probably a tier too high for him. Chesterfield fans love him and are hoping he’s retained by the way. -

Jeff King's the obvious one, given our glaring RB omission. Wouldn't mind Joe Quigley. Can you imagine the sheer hysterical piss boiling if we brought in Ollie Banks?

Really not arsed who goes up. I’m not in a rush to go back to either club.
thought Alty looked tidy for a period in the first half but they were simply outmuscled by Bromley, who ultimately had more nous. It’ll cost Bromley a lot of money having to rip up that 4G pitch of theirs. Do they have to do that and relay a new one over the summer if they win the final?

Ended up reading about a murder of a taxi driver at a farmhouse just above Denshaw in 1973. Spent an hour going off piste looking for reports of the trial. I'd be a hopeless historian / archive researcher.

They should have a mega cup competition. The super cup of super cups. Every team in the world involved and takes a decade to complete. Deportivo Morón away on a Tuesday night for the willy-wavers. George topoff would be over it like a bonnet.

Might be some interesting pickings from Hartlepool.
The only one I'd have from them is Emmanuel Dieseruvwe although he has a year left on his contract and probably has interest from L2 clubs. Had a great season in a pretty shit team.

I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the Cheshire League results for the reserve team from 1973/74 at all.
Perhaps you have either the Huddersfield or Charlton home programmes from that season as they are probably in that. I'm currently compiling results for all leagues on my website www.archives.football and I'm still missing 8 results and dates from that season for the Reserves.
A local newspaper (Oldham Chron?) will most likely have copies in an archive on microfiche if you're prepared to spend a lot of time. I've done this to update my local cricket club's historic results and stats.
Beware, it's easy to get distracted as you come across interesting stuff en route.

Going to buck the tread a little. I liked that Mellon interview, the honesty that we've all seen and worked out for ourselves. The level of abuse and vitriol has to stop if we are to become a promotion outfit and if anyone wants to take issue that smacks of it's any kind of 'fans fault' suck that up. I left very early during the Wealdstone game for 2 reasons, we were going to lose and I didn't want to watch 'the best fans in the league' spitting feathers. The only way to promotion is the whole club pulling the same direction.
Providing Mellon and DR can talk a good number of players to leave and release the budget for in coming, then Mellon will get us up there next season. He's no mug and his track record for me gives him credence. Of course every manager as a shelf life and times move on, but times not up yet for Mellon. He's the man still currently.
Excellent post Lags. We have to get behind him, and park those unsure feelings. He gets a good crack of the whip with players that are 60-70% of who he wants.

Giver over.
It’s got nothing to do with fans feelings, I don’t anybody was hurt by what he said. No one cares that much. It’s just having an opinion on the substance, which was contradictory uninspired venting.
I’d rather he wasn’t divisive, and create a them and us mentality. He’s very prickly of any criticism. Won’t go on the pod after they said he walked out before their interview. Shot Alan down, after his only honest and testing question all season. Brings up getting shit off fans, and says- don’t question me. . No problem when you’re winning. You look stupid when you’ve won 1 in 13.
He's divisive in your opinion because he said things that you don't want to hear. He may have chosen one or two a bit more wisely, granted. But he's calibrating expectation levels of the fanbase. He's telling it how it is for the first time when he's been toeing the line keeping a lid on his frustrations for six months. It's raw, fairly unpalatable and resets us for a completely new team over the next two seasons. His team.
Fans expectations have long been an extra hurdle we've had as a millstone round our neck. It's part of the reason for decades of underachievement. Ambition's important, and we should have overall aims and a plan. But until all this #HMSpisstheleague bollocks stops we'll continue to be saddled with it.

Yeah. Very possibly.
But it’s all about how you frame it Ack.
You can say- it’s going to be struggle, but the club are with me and we recognise the need to overhaul things. I respect our position financially but we’ll be doing everything we can to put things right.
You’ll notice the above is about the collective. I’ve no problem with being honest, as long as you inspire at the same time and show some leadership in tough times.
Instead he’s said (paraphrasing) the board and owners are lovely but they fucked up. I know said I’d respect what the family have spent but that was bollocks, because in reality I told them after Flyde we might go down. I know I was given 6 signings, but you can’t count them over half season because of what I inherited. I don’t like excuses, but will give you several more. If you can’t change the player then change the player. That means if you can’t coach them to improve then replace them. I’m telling you this because I know what good looks like- and don’t even question me on that. I know I’ve said we’re over budget but in reality lots of new players will sign because I’ve already told the board who I want and they’ve agreed because if they don’t we might go down. What all of this means is, I know better than everyone at the club. Even though I’m at pains to say we, what I really mean is- it’s everyone else who’s at fault. Because I’ve won 5 promotions, and you haven’t.
1 hour ago, oafcmetty said:Isn't that the nub of it though? No-one else involved in the running of the club has gained promotion out of this level (and for most, no promotions at all).
This Wealdstone interview has seemingly been more about how he's hurting the feelings of Latics fans hanging on his every word than the substance of what it actually was. Going on record, and saying in a roundabout way that, if promotion ASAP is the overall aim, the fundimentals of the playing side of the football club have to be spot on. If it ruffles a few feathers of some Latics fans who are umming and ahhing about ST's then so bit it.
He's been itching to get a lot off his chest since November. That much was clear.

Sheron, well, he’s simply not good enough for any team looking to be competitive on a consistent basis. Absolutely shit footballer.
Yep.a few goals has masked pretty much what a poor job he’s done since he arrived. Just isn’t fast enough in speed of thought or moving the ball.Probably fine at this level for a mid table club.

What does the budget comprise of? I thought it was a five year plan or something , there must be funds available
4 hours ago, BradKnowles1 said:If there is no budget for bringing better than them we are in trouble
3 hours ago, Lee Sinnott said:Nah, not having it. We'll be spending again...
We’ll see based on length of contracts he offers to those out of contract players. If it’s two years or more, he sees them as long term. If it’s one year deals, he’s managing his budget and they’re likely to be back up options.what I’m saying is, our budget will not extend to 9-10 quality signings IMO. I expect 4-5 to come in as players who will be earmarked as first choices. The rest will be lower cost options and I’d imagine some of those will probably be McGahey, Fondop et al.

The bigger picture isn't giving new deals to Devarn Green and Mike Fondop...
As much as I'd agree, we don't have the budget for bringing in better players than them as back up choices.
