Agreed, very good spinner and all round cricketer, excellent signing.

Draw away, win at home has always been a good mantra.
You need to remember to win your home games though.

Any "new face" at Oldham dog track was watched like a hawk to see if they had any decent info.
To be honest McVitie stood out like a sore thumb, making it obvious he was just there to back one dog, so it was pretty easy for anyone with a modicum of gambling knowledge to beat him to the punch.
The one exception being a pissed up Alex Higgins who arrived with a couple of minders and proceeded to back two or even three losing picks in a five dog race thus lengthening the price of "shrewdies" selections. He then told a young kid to "f*** off" when politely asked for an autograph, some "Peoples' Champion".
I didn’t miss many meetings at Oldham dogs during the 80’s, particularly remember seeing Alex Higgins turn up one night, he had about 4 bets, didn’t back a winner and went off moaning about the track being bent.
Terry McDermott also turned up one night too.

He wouldn't thrive on Clayton playing fields.
He needs the much bigger stadiums to show his true worth.

Maybe Burys potential demise would mean only one club dropping out of the football league. We would only need one club to be shitter than us.
I'm hoping that Bolton and Bury fold, and then we won't need anybody to be shitter than us.
It might be our most realistic option.

But you can't win as you'll be either pissed off as you've lost money or that Latics haven't won ..
I guess betting against Latics is just not for you, I've been betting against us for years and have done pretty well doing so as well.
I particularly remember a midweek match a good few years ago, we were at home to Leeds. I saw the teamsheets and thought bloody hell we are going to get mullered here, we had a few injuries and Paul Black was playing at left back (which speaks volumes for the strength of the Latics team that night). I went to the bookmaker at the back of the main stand and asked for a price on Leeds, they were 8/11, I thought that was buying money, I had a bout £120 on me and quickly put it all on.
We lost the game 2-0 and never threatened the Leeds goal, I left the ground that night and although disappointed we had lost, I collected my money and didn't feel atall disloyal or that I had betrayed the club.
We were going to lose with or without my bet, I just took the opportunity of profiting from the loss.
I've also on occasions backed us to lose and we have either drawn or won, that's the gamble, I don't see why anyone should get bent out of shape just because they've predicted Latics to lose, we do lose quite often.

The way AL has been going about things to this point, I'd say him and ML want to be in charge of player recruitment, team selection and tactics, but they are looking for someone to carry the can when things go tits up.

Unfortunately its very true, I've hit the bottle pretty hard this season, I'm in rehab over the summer and if I can somehow preserve my Premier League status, I'll be back sober in the new season.

Not played the required 25 games the poll creator specified was the ONLY qualifying condition. Probably not even played that many in 2 or 3 seasons has he ?
That's unfortunate, he'd have been a shoo-in.

Well said, I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been betting for over 40 years and have never bet money I couldn’t afford to lose, and I’ve never got myself into any financial difficulties as a result of betting. I hate the idea of everybody being assumed to be a problem gambler, just because they have a bet.
I will never provide financial information to a bookmaker, either bank statements or proof of earnings. I have never been asked for this information by any bookmaker but would never supply it even if it meant having my account closed.
I only bet on horses and dogs but have many accounts as I like to search around for the best prices, as I bet mainly Ante post on Greyhound competitions.
Bet Victor actually closed my account, due to my only having three bets with them in two years, all Ante post greyhound bets but they all won, they paid the third bet out and sent me an e-mail the following day saying they had closed my account. This was ridiculous as I’d placed plenty of losing bets with other bookmakers and just coincidentally the winning bets had been with the same bookmaker.
I didn’t lose any sleep over it as their prices were generally poor compared to others, hence I’d only had three bets with them in two years.
