The longer this goes on the less of an impact it’ll make.  If it does end up being Scholes then no matter how you jazz up the press conference, it’s now old news.

Bemuses me how our club operates media exposure.  Regardless of what some people think, if it is Scholes, it should have been announced last week and maximised the wow factor and the national press interest.  Couldn’t AL have timed his downtime until afterwards or flown back earlier?

Obviously not, probably tells you where the club ranks on his list of priorities.

    Someone on FB saying:

’Big Sam never said that. He said Oldham have just sacked a foreign manager. Needs to get his facts right.’

The dangers of hearsay and jumping to conclusions - the sporting press in a nutshell.

As I said previously, if Paul Scholes is appointed manager...

I’ll wait for the official announcement.

Yeah, I heard the interview on Talkshite, Alladyce was clueless about us and our situation, he did say that Oldham (yes Oldham) have just sacked a foreign manager, he was trying to back up his argument that  young British coaches/managers are not given a chance in this country and have to look abroad for work. It was in relation to the new Huddersfield manager being announced.

    I’ve gone with Scholes.

In the distant past I’d have been excited at the prospect. But as things are now I’m not enthusiastic about who gets it as I fully expect them to be gone within six months anyway. In Scholes’ case possibly sooner.

Wild’s a top bloke but I wouldn’t want him to get it for his sake. His day for a big job will come. Possibly elsewhere.

I don’t know much about Askey.

So at the very least with Scholes we’ll have a more interesting second half of the season.

I predict that sooner rather than later he’ll leave. Pete will step in again as caretaker. Our owner will admit mistakes were made. Some will hope or presume he’ll learn from  them but he won’t. League two pergatory becomes the new League one pergatory. We have a bit of FA Cup success in five years time. And continue to sign players whose names I struggle to pronounce.

And “slowly slowly” will continue to be the new “keep the faith”.

I’ll still always love Latics though. I’ve been resigned to that for decades now!

A very downbeat but probably accurate assessment.

So all we need is a manager willing and able to:

    • Challenge for promotion in League Two with a mid-table squad assembled by somebody else.
    • Work under an allegedly trigger-happy, unpredictable and interfering chairman.
    • Perform despite a climate of financial instability and regular late payment of wages.
    • Placate an expectant but disillusioned fanbase.

    Unfortunately that's all very true.

Really good read, as was Dan Turner's entry. Although his line about singing 'Always look on the bright side of life', and having it returned back at us with gusto after you know what brought back some long since repressed bad memories :bigcry:

A mate of mine chucked a podcast my way about our 89-94 seasons too. It's a bit shambolic, but it's a fairly nice listen, and I enjoyed it overall.

Really enjoyed listening to that, brought the memories flooding back.

It isn't true red cards don't get you suspended for the FA Cup. It's suspensions for yellows that are only handed out for the competition they're picked up in now. This has been brought in to stop players getting a fifth yellow on purpose so they miss a cup match instead of a league game.

Miller will be suspended until 3 first team games have passed. So he'll miss Maidstone, Rochdale (Can't play, but Checkatrade doesn't count as a first team game), Crewe, and Bury (Or Maidstone at home if there's a replay)

So he can't play against Dale (even though it doesn't count as a first team game), that sounds suspiciously like a 4 game ban.
