Other shouts for best player this year, To throw their names in the mix:
Fitz Hall
Clint Hill
Sean Gregan
Neal Eardley
My vote though has to go for Chris Taylor, often been stifled by a poor team around him and ever changing rota at left back.
Oldham boy through and through, plays exactly like the rest of us would if we could.

Think this is what we'll do.
And for us two, it's going to be a very messy one!

Right folks after Driving to Bristol to watch the lads yesterday and seeing all of our League games so far this season I like most am gutted.
HOWEVER, How people honestly believe that sacking Dave penny after just 7 league games will improve the situation is just unbelievable to me.
You ask Newcastle fans now what they think of the sacking of Sam Allardyce and they see that as a turning point for the worse in the clubs history.
That squad like ours needed rebuilding and key decisions had to be made and time given for them to take effect. He had 24 games and then as now those in football know it was too short and the wrong decision made in sacking him.
If you ask those wanting Penny Out who their favourite manager of all time for Latics is 99% would say Joe Royle, And rightly so, but if it was for fans like this then the pinch me years and our time in the premiership for however brief it was could have remained and stayed a Dream because if they had their way back then as they do now they would be asking for his head! Joe Royle in his first 10 league games won just 2!
The Worse thing about this whole situation is the state of the modern day football fan and our club has better examples than most showing their decline in faith and support and their Edgy like desire for instant success following years of turmoil.
The Immediate detrimental effect and danger to this club and its existence is those people who claim to be fans and not the owners that saved us and continue to keep us afloat.
Take a long hard look at yourself and are you really a supporter?
And are your own personal desires the best for the club as a whole?
KEEP THE FAITH.
Good Post, it isn't going to happen overnight, we the fans need to be patience, we will pick up points and move away from our current position (you can't really even look at the table yet not 10 games in)
instant success doesn't happen, we need to get a grip on reality and understand what happened last season has had a series detrimental effect on the whole ethos of the club. DP is doing his utmost to turn the predicament around and give him time I believe he will
It's going to be difficult it will take time to play flowing beautiful attacking football
Keep The Faith, Keep turning up at BP and we'll get through this together!

For Ormrod's second goal (the one on one) I was expecting him to rush him and try and cut down the angle or something (anything) but he just stood rooted to his line Ormrod got to the 6 yard line and just passed it into the corner of the net. (very very poor by any standards). You need to at least make the player make a decision but to do absolutely nothing is unforgiveable.
Defencively we were absolutely shocking today, I saw another thread actually complementing Lomax's performance (beggars belief to me that anyone thought he had a good game). Both the first two goals came from crosses down his flank, in the second half he was constantly drifting inside and leaving the player out on the wing in acres of space, that was also the case for the third goal when the ball came across, Ormrod was totally unmarked and slotted the ball home, how that can constitute having agood game is beyong me. Although when Jacobsen is back fit Lomax will not be anywhere near the first team IMO.
If he would of raced off his line alá Fleming he would have been chipped, perhaps a little too slow to come off his line when within the box, but as so many has said already give the guy a chance it is only pre-season friendlies. We will have a more solid position with Eards and JJ in full backs next week, when it matters.
Lomax did put in a good performance and it is true that crosses came in from the left hand side, but it was Taylor on the second that should have stopped the cross, Lomax was marking the guy closer to touch. For the third it was a break from Central position and we all know that Greegs + Hazell aren't fast enough, so the onus is on midfield running back with him.
BUT IT IS ONLY A FRIENDLY!
Positivity is needed.

thats who i thought it was at first but i think if penney doesnt snap him up, he's missed a trick
Concur, this lad kept Pav quiet all match won absolute everything in the air (down the middle). Thought the pen decision was a bit a lucky, Parker will do that to many this season.
Impressed with Parker he worked the channels well and was a positive from the match. If Taylor, Smalley can get themselves in the box for the subsequent cross we'll do alright out of it.

We signed a player from a team just relegated to non-league football? Garbage. Penney out!
QUI?
It's a good job, sarcasm screams through. Top signing, Brill

At the moment, it is probably a waste of time, but how about making the competition interesting and giving the Winners opportunity to play in the Europa League Qualifying Rounds?
If the likes of Villa + Spurs can't take the UEFA/Europa seriously, perhaps giving the chance to lower league clubs would value the games/experience more.
Any other suggestions of how to make the competition interesting?

Well page 6 is truly underway and page 7 is coming round, Close Season has nearly finished with Pre Season starting Monday, with the first friendly a fortnight away.
Personally I would like to say thanks for Stu's contributions
It does make Latics Mobile worth checking on a daily basis when away from my desk.
I hope that the replacement makes the change unnoticeably and the regular new content is posted.

Isn't this the guy who signed with BadFud who signed on extraordinary wages for a long time at the start of their second season when they got relegated? Also aiding the crippling of the club financially? I know it isn't exactly the guy's fault but for me will live long in the memory for that.
Surely shirly, it's got to be boredom on behalf of the Rarely Wrong?

Saw that, cracking signing, alá Rob Page
In the same vein as above, not sure this has been said...
Sean Jarvis has joined Uddders' Board of Directors, saw that scroll by on SSN last night.

U would have thought he would have learned after loansgate, doggygate, ricketsgate and neverbringonanyinspiredsubsgate that saltergate might just be a gate too far....
Genius!
If rumours are to be believed, 'they never listen'
Alterntive take theystoppedlisteninggate
Does sounds slightly, bitter, I still don't know why they sacked me, how about....two wins in nine, ending with the biggest loss of his career, just before those nine, the defeat at edgar street, was not pretty. Writing was on the wall, and if you don't see that, then you'll never know.
Saying that, when he came in and for two and half years I believed, thought we could have success. He would walk into any of the fav Latics XI,
Good Luck to Shez and his team at Saltergate.

A good source from the Club Shop told me the away kit for this year would be dark blue.

Happy with both signings so far, Hudds fans seem happy he has gone;
Gets stuck in and picks up yellow cards gallore but that doesnt cover up the fact he has no vision, can't pass and his shooting ability for a professional footballer is beyond a joke (i think his sole intention as a town player was to break the scoreboard)
But new team, new manager, new challenge, can sometimes change a player. Fingers crossed!
We don't have to worry about that, our scoreboard already is broken!
A bit of steel in the middle of the park, was definitely what was needed. If Worthy and Purdie play centre mid, where does that leave Whits?
8 yellow cards, that isn't too dangerous, proves that he doesn't let men get past him, anyway possible; which is what is needed sometimes, saves exposing the defenders. Good choice of player, our team this year I hope will be industrious and a team. Not just pocketed individuals who were let down by other people's attitudes and inconsistent form.
-
Rob Purdie "In the first friendly I could be playing anywhere, from right back to left midfield"
Nope, I think those are the only two positions that we have filled from last years starting XI.
Good Luck RP

Not seen this anywhere but standing by for the iceberg!!!
Anyone heard this interview on Tees Sport where Martin Gray confirms appointment as assistant manager?
Interview is about 1:46 to 1:50.
Not wanting to shout "I**b**g Ahead", but read on OS (on Tuesday) that Penney was hoping to bring along two of his coaching staff that have been with him for 3 years and wanted people around him he can trust, so assumed it would of been his assistant and a n other from Darlo.
Not being an absolute footi nerd, didn't know their names, but hope I remember their names with glory soon.

Totally concur with your post, negativety on the board is sometimes suicidal at times after some games. Hughes goin will breath fresh air into a stale often one dimensional squad. I have true faith eternal optimism that we'll make play-offs.

Please note:
This comp is not open to members appearing on Soccer AM / taking the actual kicks.
I say 8!!!!!
I'll second that 8, top of the leaders board!
-
Even after he commited the foul for their second. It was his man he left who had a clear shot at goal and pinball ensued. Otherwise he is a legend, and think he adds confidence to the pitch

One of our youth's that went to Everton, shouldn't we be speakin to him about a possible return?
-
Time for me to join in the game - boring but no doubt these two will be there thereabouts@
G, C Davies
A, A Liddell

No way am I critising our old physio,
but how many City forwards are injured at the moment?
Our new physio does seem to be working wonders, even Thommo has been fit for a full month!

I would say we have 'bigger name' players than Carlisle.......as well as some excellent youngsters who will be the envy of 3/4 of the division.
Carlisle have one of the biggest names in League One History..........
Marc Bridge-Wilkinson
I'll get my coat

Born on Satuday 4th April 1981 Oldham Royal.
Away at Deepdale,
Preston North End 1 Oldham Athletic 2
Any ideas where I would find the scorers?

The Sex Pistols and the Clash were played, miles better than the garbage we get at BP.
I've never heard Garbage played over our PA, would love to hear "Only Happy When It Rains" - That would be a great entrance music.
Right though, music played at BP is utter tosh.

Concur with that sentiment, how much does that cost plus a new roof on Chaddy?
In time, phase 2, we could get a new Furtherwood Road Stand.
