  1. What a joke of a post, relegation would be disastrous for the club seeing as we don't have many on long term deals. We'd end up with an even worse team than now. If we go down and then somehow put together a promotion winning team there no guarantees people would come back and we'd get 6000 home gates. The club is in the worst geographical position in Europe next to an expanding man city and United, the board do a decent job of propping us up. We just need to be more positive although I agree the manager needs to be playing a more attacking team for us to get behind at home

  2. Felt he needed a good start Kelly. Never like the appointment but once in we had to all be behind him or it would be really difficult for him to continue. Proved that way the only worry is the same board are picking again. For me they also need to go for this shambles that they have created. Kelly gave it his best but the board shouldn't have allowed him to be put in that position for me

  3. he's made a good start considering he has no experience of managing a club. we look competitve if a little blunt up front and his signings have been good. certainly better than previous managers like penny. cassidy is a huge blow as he looked like he would offer a cutting edge or focal point for the team to play off. i dont think any other manager even mourinho would get much change out of turner, poleon and murphy. we have to be realistic and acknowledge that if we play an open attacking game those 3 wont outscore many other teams strikers, therefore being a little defensive may be the best option.

  4. Only watched 90 mins against a Middlesbrough team that out classed us but already think we have a much better side than last season.

From tonight the keeper looks good so that's a step forward on last year as Coleman will improve also

Defence iffy but at least 3 of them have payed a season together so will be hopefully better this year although I think we need another centre half

Dunn is clearly quality and improves us, plus we have kept out best midfielders Kelly, jones and Winchester. Croft improves us on the flank as he's a good player for league 1

Forte is still good and will chip in with goals and Cassidy looked good tonight. If he scores 10 plus this year he will be a great signing. We Also have options with turner murthy and poleon so people to come off the bench even though I rate none if them. For me we are in a miles better position than last year so looks quite promising and could be a decent year

  5. I dunno, maybe ask the losers who put money on us last season?

if we are 20/1 for promotion. the odds on us dropping will be decent and from a betting point of view prob worth a punt. no real contacts, no track record, therefore likely to find it hard in first season and no old hand as a number 2 to guide him. if he cant attract a goal scorer and forte is injured for large part of the year we will be right down there. on the other hand he could be the new eddie howe but highly unlilely expecially as parts for the crowd will be against him from day 1

  6. I know the manager situation and player released list has dominated conversations this week but I really wanted to mention the season ticket offer from Bradford. £150 for a season is a fantastic offer and although I wouldn't expect us to be able to get 15000 season tickets it shows a club near us, in the same division able to price it's games attractively and for the standard on show. They have done it for a few years now as we'll i think. Why can't we be doing something along those lines

With mcfc on our side of manc and increasing capacity along with mufc close we must be in the worst place in the country for a lower division team. I fear the only way we will gain support in the coming years will be through cheaper pricing to attract more fans. Just hope corney and the board see this and do something similar or crowds will continue to slowly decrease. I doubt the new stand will make little difference to attendances now they have appointed someone who has divided fans opinions. It will be a brave move financially but may be the only way to turn the club around from its current lg 1 slump

  7. wow.....shows the board are out of touch with what the fans want and therefore what the club needs. new stand, bit of optimism and chance to appoint someone who everyone could unite behind and push on in summer. dowie or someone who had some track record would have don it.

95% see it as a bad move, he wont get the early support he needs as we will all soon loose patience with what we all see as the wrong decision and it'll drag everyone down. i hope he starts well.

lack of league footballing experience shoudnt be an issue but i think we'd all have wished he had a lot more coaching experience like warbuton had when he got a shot at being a manager. lets hope he talks well in press and makes it clear he's a leader and can run a football club.

  8. announced his retirement i see today, whilst on books at bolton. remember him playing for us and thinking he was OK/fairly steady but he's gone onto become a good championship player/poor premier league player. with hindsight we gave him away, dont think we got much for him. trying to think of anyone else we have produced ourselves in the last 10 years who could claim to be better or had a better career. anyone think of another? eardley comes to mind but cant think of anyone else

  9. he's prob right though, his budget will be way less and he's doing a much better job than a lot of others including us. id be shouting about it every week if i had rochdale 6th, i cant even do that on footy manager. plus i personally like a manager who is prepared to come out and shoot down a rival if there's been a bit of niggle. they will finish above us this season for sure, id have him as manager any day of the week

  10. he has massively disappointed in the role at the head of the midfield. he may well run all over and close down but he's meant to offer something going forward and his goals/assist record shows that he cant play there. ive been to a few games lately and cant think of anytime he's gone past someone or been unlucky trying to slide someone through on goal or fizzed a shot wide. its not as if we he's been playing in a loosing team as well. he's been anonymous for months, and when i say anonymous i dont mean he hasnt run or tried but he has offered nothing going forward which is what we need from him. for me not good enough to be playing there, deserves the criticism and and shouldn't be in the team in that role

  11. can someone tell me what the tactic is to try and score......ive been to barnsley and now bradford and cant see how we are trying to score. we dont go down the flanks plus we dont have any wingers, we dont try and play to forte's feet or get him to run at people and we dont cross the ball for wilkinson to head it.

for me if we are to play a diamond midfield the guy at the head of it has to have an influence on the game. unfortunately ours doesnt and hasnt all year although there was others today who did as little as he did. very poor for me and clear the team has massive limitations. we need two wingers in the squad to start with to offer some different options

  12. i rec this could be the lowest eb in the 20 odd years ive supported us which is odd as we have been in worse positions with worse teams......however as this post says the attendance shows we are slowly dying. as i post there's not much on the horizon for the next 3 months to make me or i presume other to want to go and watch a game.

corney has done well to keep us afloat and in this league but im starting to think the only way out is a change at the top. new blood, new ideas, hopefully new manager and then that can transpire through to the fans who will show up in bigger numbers. if more of us dont show up its inevitable we will go down as budgets will slowly decrease until we drop.

they've said they will stick with holden so got to back him but he needs a fully fit squad or i cant honestly see us picking up more than 6 points which may not be enough

  13. dean's not my fav by any stretch but i wish him the best of luck........really poor decision though as i cant see there being a candidate who is miles better than any current applicants that we should be waiting for. looks like the rumours its a current player whose deal runs out in summer may be true.

again we will have a new manager who will need some pre-season games to work out who to keep and what to go get. last min signings at end of window. likely disjointed start to next year. hardly the boost we could have got by appointing somone quickly when LJ left. totally lost interest for the rest of the season now

  14. no issues with this at all, do it nearly every week but doesnt stop me supporting/wanting them to win. in fact you've got a better chance of winning if you do as you know the ins and outs of the team so can better identify when they likely to loose/not score. i even bet in play on next goal against us and result whist im sat in the stand cheering us on. saturday gone was easy, players missing and barnsley in good form were way overpriced to win. covers the costs of the overpriced tickets

  15. I wouldn't mind seeing an interim manager until he end of the season. Someone who has had experience at this level before. a gamble perhaps but we are two points off the play offs and if someone can come in and grab this team by the short and curlies then we might just get over the line. As others have said though I reckon it will be an appointment from within.

no way do we want an interim. then in the summer we have someone who doesnt know much about the team and waits until christmas to do all his chopping and changing. we need someone in now who can work with the team and see what it needs, identify players early and go and get them in the summer to improve on what we have.

i would like to see an experienced manager. peter taylor, johnson snr, danny wilson, o'driscoll, brian laws. any of those would be cheep enough and have the experience to take us up.

  16. even though i dont think he will go i thought i'd canvas opinion on any replacements being either experienced or, like johnson, given their first go.

for me, i dont think we'd get any better than him for a first timer, as i think he's doing a good job with our budget restraints. i think we'd have a better chance of success with an experienced manager who knows the league and maybe has experience of putting together teams on low budgets/short term deals and getting the best from them.

you can never guarantee anyone will work out but i'd be happy with johnson snr or danny wilson appointment if worse came to the worse. if not those two, someone who has managed 3/4 teams before, including at this level and not just in the naff bottom division.

    thoughts?

  17. I cannot understand this anti Phili mentality. He was not the one giving the ball away. Mellis Jones and especially Kelly were, Kelly was the one responsible for their first goal with his lousy clearance path. If you were not looking through blinkers you would see the difference when 2 of those 3 were replaced. Able to get decent ball higher up the pitch meant he suddenly became effective. The front of the diamond player should not be blamed when the three behind pass backward or just hoof it. Mellis in particular had a really lousy match. He consistently failed to find a blue shirt and against a better side would have given away a bag full of goals. Get a grip and watch the match not your prejudice,

??? top of the diamond is poss the main player to blame. they pass sideways because there's no option further forward. murphy made a few half decent runs but philly is dreadful in that role. no creativity, no movement, no surging runs. he's there to do that or slide forte in or the striker in or create something of note. not saying mellis/kelly were any better as they were poor but against the crap teams he needs to do more in that role. not the first time he's gone missing

  18. johnson needs to take a huge slice of e the responsibility for his formation which clearly didnt work yet stuck with it for most of the game.......the attacking play of the side is also woeful especially down the flanks where the full back and wide midfielders/forte (where ever he is supposed to be) is dreadful. not just today but regularly agaisnt poor sides we have been terrible going forward.....danny philliskirk at the head of a diamond midfield also deserves a mention for contributing next to nothing how he wasnt subbed is beyond me. on the positive side we are somehow still well in the thick of a play off push which is amazing considering how bad we can be when not with it.
