And what if the new manager sleeps on it and changes his mind like Evans did??

This is not the way to do it.

If Thompson wanted the job but is not being offered it, then he maybe decided there and then to leave and not return to recruitment. We don't know the facts, so we just assume the club has made a tits-up of it? The club may have asked him to take charge this weekend and he flat out refused.

There also has to be a reason why Thommo is not returning to his Head of Recruitment job, and why he has left the club so suddenly?

We will probably never find out. If he has decided to leave then that's his decision to make and maybe the club asked him to stay in recruitment and he saw that as a step backward. Who knows but we can't just start slagging the club when we don't actually know the finer details.

Surely announce new manager first and then announce readers etc have left!

    Cock up again.

How can they announce the new manager if they have not yet made the appointment and logically, of course, Thompson and Redfearn leaving the club is going to be announced. Not knowing all the facts [if we ever do] I feel somewhat disappointed by Thompson leaving before the cup tie on Saturday, which could have a negative impact on the players. Maybe the new person will be in place by then but I wouldn't be counting my chickens.

  4. Hopefully the next incumbent is announced this week because I cannot see any squad additions until the new manager is in place, even then, it will be too late for strengthening before the Alty tie. Meanwhile, ST could probably be asking the players once again why the fuck they stop playing after twenty minutes.

It's not like there will be players on the phone every day, flocking to come to BP now that Unsworth has gone. *

I disagree, the 3 nil loss against Bromley, the Dorking draw before , numerous games before that, then 3 wins and 3 draws , unbeaten in six, I just can’t see that happening under DU. I do feel we are slipping somewhat back to “type” though as each game passes which worries me and overall I don’t think we are anywhere near good enough for where we want to be.

I bet Thompson thinks or wanted to say "they are slipping back to type". Thompson knows what's required but there's the rub, the board won't back him unless he gets the job. A new man will want to assess the players in training [more time] and may come to a different conclusion regarding what is achievable with this group of players.

It's all up in the air.

    He’s gone. Move on.

It was 'doctor evil' who raised the Unsworth point first and I think 'southwaleslatic' is quite correct in what he posted and has probably moved on, like the rest of us, although the legacy of what Unsworth did will dog us for a long time. Great post by Yarddog73 and, despite the effing and jeffing, pretty much sums it all up.

The players have to take responsibility….they are clearly not good enough.

We need 4 players, whether Thommo brings them in or someone else it needs to happen soon!!

I’m in favour of a new manager coming in now with different ideas!!

I think we have players who are very capable in this division, they need managing by someone who is experienced and able to get more out of them plus bring more in to balance the squad.

God there's some drama queens on here. Currently two points off the playoffs having not even had a good start to the season. In no way is it "done". A new manager and a run of results and we'll be right up there

Mightily pissed off with that second half collapse last night when a win would have them in the playoff positions and a great springboard to carry on. You can't underestimate what results like last night can do. Two points off the playoffs is much better than where Latics would have been under Unsworth but the need to get this situation sorted with manager and players is something the club has to get over the line as soon as possible.

Even after a night's sleep and some reflection on the game, I am still not convinced the season will end in success. Better than last season, yes, but not what we all want and maybe expected, given the hype which has proved to be bullshit.

You can call me crazy but (in the absence of a new signing) I`ll throw it out there having given it considered thought. For the next few games I would play Norwood in midfield. He's creative with the ball, retains it well and drives forward. Could be an excellent supply line for whoever we decide to combine up top.

Hopefully, he'll also chip in with a few himself. Presently not getting the best out of him in my opinion, so try something different.

He's a striker, I think he would tell Thompson to fuck off.

I ain't asking for 3 players, I'm saying what I think is needed, and no I don't think that will happen and I can also see Thompson getting until the end of the season.

"..need another left back in case anything happens to Kitching 2 new right backs"
    Is that not three players?

Thompson ain't going to get it, he's does not have enough to achieve what the board want to achieve. Regardless of whatever happens, promotion is not on the cards, we don't have enough in the tank to achieve it. All that pre-season hope was for nothing.

Just got in from work- and sounds like it was a poor performance. The squad is lob sided and you have to question the recruitment, we still have players out of position. Relying on Lundy to be a world beater in his first start, the same 8 or 9 starting every game because the replacements are deemed not good enough.

    Onto ST-

He’s had 5 games unbeaten, and returned 11 points from 15.

When did that become the sign of a shit manager??????

    The players-

No one is playing us or coming to our place to roll over. Quite the opposite- teams are running out at a great stadium for the level, and raising their game. Now we have to match that of course. But I really wish we could move past that the idea that everyone is shit and they shouldn’t be able to touch us.

I also think this is what is happening to the players as well, they are believing their own hype and dropping off. Whether it’s ST or not moving forward the players have to realise they need to compete for 90 minutes if we’re going to get promoted.

If a team is going to gain promotion, they do not concede to teams in the bottom four. Latics should be on 20pts now and sitting in seventh, they are not and that says it all. Weak team or mismanaged? Nuttall and Shelton should not have come on for Reid and Lundstrum and Tollitt is not up to the standard we need.

I agree, need another left back in case anything happens to kitching.

2 new right backs, one to start and one as cover. I thought Sutton had a decent game tonight but he's not the answer and Freeman has disappeared off the face of the earth. I know he's supposed to be on paternity leave but I'm sure I read he's only contracted till January anyway and not sure that will get extended.

Need another centre mid who can actually put his foot on the ball and create something. Thought Lundstram looked good tonight but if anything happens to him again we're back to square one and can't rely on Gardner with his injury record.

And don't know what is going on with Norwood. He runs about alot and gets stuck in but definitely not living up to expectations.

When Raglan's back wouldn't mind seeing him partner Hobson at the back. Think that would be our strongest pairing.

You are asking for at least three players.
Do you honestly think we are going to get what you are asking for?
    I doubt it.
