  1. Because if they dont do it right, they can injure themselves, which kind of pisses off the manager. It happedned to that Mwahha, Mwu...the bloke who tranferred from Portsmouth to City.

I think there you're thinking of Lua Lua, who twisted his ankle doing a backflip after scoring for Portsmouth a while back.

Benjani Mwaruwariwrwrwrwari has a different trademark celebration.

  2. The answer was Mark Allott.

Congratulations to the Fab Four who got it right.

Blow-by-blow account to follow at some point...

Yesss I got it right! B)

Obvious really, can't believe so many got it wrong.

  3. I have to say Miss Buckingham caught my eye more than most.

Miss Tunbridge Wells also ranks high up the list for me - if you read her profile not only is she a girly girl but she's been in the army and been to Iraq! :o

Miss Oxford just looks like she got daddy to enter her because he runs the show dahling.

Miss Durham brought back some fond memories. :naughty::jailed:

Miss Cumbria - I've seen far better from that county.

Miss Trafford is indeed Mrs. Chris Hall I think. Guess she never saw him play football.

  4. The good news is ... there's only three weeks 'til the season kicks off

Bad news is its still three weeks untikl the season kicks off

The Good News Is.... First Pre Season Match Tonight

Bad news is its in Rhyl while Rochdale get to play theirs in Marbella

The good news is we can drive to Rhyl without a passport.

The bad news is Neal Eardley will need a lift off someone.

  5. Cheers! Where's my prize?!? . I needed a lot of clues though. I like those types of question - that was a good one.

I've already given you a 1st place trophy (albeit in smiley form) what else could you want?! Honestly!

Glad the quiz was appreciated. I may come up with further quizzes of similar difficulty soon. :shifty::ph34r:

  6. Table A: Away fans on the left on TV

Table B: Away fans on the right on TV

    Correct?

:first::imnotworthy: Well done that is the correct answer!

The grouping depends on where the away fans are in relation to the main TV camera. As rightly guessed by martjs, group A has away fans to the left (such as our own rocky road end being to the left of the lookers as you look out), and group B has away fans to the right.

The mysterious group C has fans who are at neither end, but along the side. An example being at Everton last season where we were 'below' the TV gantry.

The potential for teams to appear in more than one group came from sides that allow away fans in more than one stand.

Another answer could have been to do with the direction that the home team generally attacks in 1st half/2nd half, as it is most common for teams to attack the home end 2nd half. However, due to the occasions where the teams swap through choice or losing the toss, it was more elegant to have the away stand as basis for the answer.

  7. It's the side of the pitch the camera gantry is on - is it to do with the player's tunnel being either on the opposite side or the same side to where the main camera gantry is?

Or the geographical location? No, there would have to be 4 tables..

Nothing to do with the tunnel I'm afraid. And none of those either, Phill. The TV gantry position is very relevant though.

The next clue which should make things a lot easier is: for the video highlights of games at these grounds which I watched, I was particularly interested in ones where the away team scored a goal.

  8. Is it tunnels, the ones in group A the tunnels start above the pitch and the ones in group B they are on the same level. Or is it to do with those collapasable tunnel things so the teams in group A don't have them but the ones in group B do.

What you say may be true but it's not the answer I'm looking for - and besides, where would the teams in group C come into it?

Another clue: for my aforementioned research I found the photographs on Football Ground Guide to be very useful when categorising the teams. Highlights of matches at the teams' grounds were also useful.

  9. Not the shape of the ground, police boxes or Tuesday night matches. The scoreboard guess is however somewhere along the right lines.

We have established that it is something to do with the stadium, so I'll provide you with another clue that should trigger people's thoughts: the third group that I mentioned existed - one of the teams in it is Everton.

  10. Grounds that have hosted other sporting events other than football, or have hosted rugby matches?

    Fraid not -

More teams can be added to each group, and in theory most of the 92 league clubs belong in one or the other. There is however a third group that some teams belong in, and it may be correct to say a few even belong in more than one.

Other sports and plastic pitches can be taken out of the equation.

  11. It's not to do with groundsharing or switching grounds.

However someone has rightly twigged Fulham were in the same group as QPR when they were both sharing, but now they're back at their own ground the two teams are in opposite groups. Craven Cottage & Loftus Road are different in some way....

  12. Evening all,

After a spot of research I have come up with a rather difficult quiz question for you all.

I have categorised a number of teams into 2 groups as follows.

    Group A

    Oldham

    Huddersfield

    Liverpool

    Port Vale

    Bradford

    Carlisle

    Millwall

    Southend

    Luton

    Sheffield Wednesday

    Sheffield United

    Tottenham

    QPR

    Group B

    Man United

    Man City

    Arsenal

    Leeds

    Burnley

    Blackburn

    Walsall

    Stockport

    Fulham

Your task is to guess the link between the teams in each group.

More teams can be added to each group, and in theory most of the 92 league clubs belong in one or the other. There is however a third group that some teams belong in, and it may be correct to say a few even belong in more than one.

I have a number of further clues which I may add in stages if no-one gets it.

    Your time starts......... now!

  13. I've just spoken to my Burnley colleague about this rumour. He says he was excellent for them at Championship level last season. He had a real 'footballing brain' and was still streets ahead of his team mates in terms of passing and shooting. (Bear in mind though that his strike partner there was Ade Akinbiyi!)

The main problem though was his fitness - he only played a handful of games for them in the 4 months or so he was there and he also can't run much anymore. This led to him getting some stick from the fans as it gave the illusion that he was lazy. However he said his attitude on the pitch when he could play and in interviews was spot on.

If we could keep him fit he'd do a job for us, but given that he'd probably be on a fair wedge would it be worth it?
