Whelan was immense against Bristol at home whilst Hunt is a waste of a squad place

Our problem is consistency we are quite regularly shite with the odd good game DKD the prime example

Ironically our defence has been our strongest despite where we are and that's all over the place for the next few games

Whelan was good against Bristol, but for him that was an exceptional performance. You can count on the fingers of one hand the number of games where he has imposed himself. He’s very very weak in the tackle.

Vaughan is bullied and shoved off the ball every game he plays

My Newcastle supporting mate came to Barrow at home and said he has talent but needs to toughen up and his height doesn't help

I was a relatively decent player in school but was never the biggest and the same happened to me

I do understand what you mean, his height is definitely against him, but neither Whelan or Hunt have any sort of physical presence either. Vaughan has the talent and vision though to be much more creative than either of them. I just thought that Shez should have changed things once we went behind. We weren’t creating anything from midfield.

The guy came in when we were bottom and adrift without a hope in hell

If you think Vaghan who gets bullied off the ball by

    everyone because he's 4 foot 3

Or Couto who can't defend his nan is the answer to where we are thank Chris you aren't the manager

Both look good neither will get us out of this

How tall do you have to be to not get bullied off the ball? Whelan and Hunt (and Bowden before him) aren’t exactly Roy Keane or Vinnie Jones and they are quite a bit taller than Vaughan. The midfield as a whole is very weak, Missilou apart.

Yesterday though, in the second half, we were sleepwalking to another defeat, no creativity whatsoever, so why not bring Vaughan or Bahamboula on? We were losing anyway! Poor yesterday from the manager IMO. Bringing Stobbs on for Hope with only injury time left was pointless and way way too late for any player to be expected to make an impact.

We need to replace most of the loanees by:

Their permanent signing, only one I can see that happening with is Grant, Lawlor might be available too, but I don't know what his contract situation is.

Another signing- think it will be hard to replace McCalmont and Clarke with a permanent signing. The rest will be relatively easy.

Another loan - doubt we will be able to get McCalmont and Clarke back, but similar players will be available.

Playing 3-5-2, or more accurately 3-4-2-1, can mean you don't need a ball winning midfielder every game.

Is Grant injured at the moment? Or just not being picked?

  5. We have to hope that Wheater will bring some organisation and know-how to the defence and get them working as a unit because at the moment they seem to be playing like individuals.

We are also desperate for an aggressive ball winning midfielder. Someone who can lead by example.

We are a soft touch at the moment. Bradford bullied us and out-muscled us much too easily in the second half.

Looked like a stonewaller the hand ball with Mills? They are supposed to be given now aren’t they?

Fluking a 1 goal loss might be more damaging than actually getting hammered for 6 which is what should have happened.

Lets see what happens on Saturday.

“Should have been hammered for 6” ..... are you for real? Did you go to the game? Or would you just like them to be hammered for 6?

    Pathetic post.

If we looked so solid with missilou and Sylla in the middle tell me who was supposed to be picking the runners from midfield for the winning goals? Neither of them are anywhere to be seen when Blackburn walk it into the back of the net.

Players make mistakes, some players are cleverer than others, especially Championship players against League 2 ones. Goals happen in games!

it was still a much better performance than Saturday.

Definitely some positives to take from it going forward.

Thoroughly enjoyable Cup game ..Completely different performance to that which we witnessed on Saturday. Not many teams in this league will want to play against that Forward line of ours tonight..We broke with purpose and plenty of pace about us. Yes we do need a leader at the back and maybe if we had tonight the final scoreline might have been different. Not taking anything away from the 4 who played in defense tonight everyone out in a shift maybe tiredness got to them as mistakes leading up to two goals, but thsts what The coaching team are there for

If we can take what we witnessed tonight into the bradford game we wont be far off ..

Couldn’t agree more. A balanced opinion of the game instead of all the negativity that some people are only too happy to write.

We looked a decent side tonight, much much better than Saturday - not difficult I know.

An extra man (Sylla) in the middle made things much easier for Maouche and Missilou, and going forward with the ball we looked to have quite a bit of pace.

We played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and despite the gutting feeling of conceding those 2 late goals I was happy with the performance.

On Saturday it was difficult to pick a MoM because they were all poor apart from Woods, but tonight it was difficult to choose one because no one had a bad game, including Sefil who seems to be the whipping boy at the moment. He won some very commanding headers as far as I could see, and yes he’s definitely lacking in some areas, but maybe he’s inexperienced at this level and he’s still finding his feet. Give him a break.

Not sure why people are bleating on about this signing ..

Let's not forget he got relegated last season ..

Also doesn't solve the nil's up front against Stockport and f*cking Halifax ..

It’s a cracking signing, and just what we need. I’m not a AL fan by any stretch, but credit where credit’s due. On the face of it Wheater is a better calibre of player than we thought we’d be getting. Good luck to

him, I hope he’s a big success because he looks like he’ll be the perfect replacement for Clarkey.

If we could get a striker and a midfielder in of a similar standard then I’d start to feel really optimistic for the season.

    He didn't want one.

I spoke to him after the last match against Northampton. He told me that they hadn’t offered him a new contract - “but there was still time”. The guy wanted to stay, and was at a bit of a loss as to why they didn’t want him to, other than the fact that they want to go for a more youthful team, but surely you need experience as well. Anyone who says that he didn’t want to stay though is misinformed.

Zeus was offered a deal, went on International Duty and then received a text from Mo Lemsagam (I have seen said text) saying "we have signed 2 keepers. Good luck in the future..."

Because that’s the way you do things as professionals isn’t it?!?!?!

Not surprised at all. It seems to be the way that they generally treat any of the staff at the club. So sad to see our club being run this way by these two, oh and Barry Owen as well. What exactly does he do anyway??

Very valid point, but a pedantic correction. Clarke missed the first 3 games (his first game was against Macclesfield at home). Plus he was sent off in one game (Doncaster Cup) so missed a fraction of that game and the next one suspended.

Doesn't mean the overall point is anyway wrong though.

You are right. I stand corrected. I have blinkers on when it comes to Clarke. 😊

I definitely think we should have kept him for one more season, especially when the hierarchy probably had an inkling that Edmundson would be going. ⚽

One or two older heads at the back needed or we’ll ship goals for fun this season.

Didn’t we have an older head at the back last season? Played every minute of every game apart from the last match (which we lost 2-5). Think he was also voted player of the season, oh and he won goal of the season as well. Surely we kept him?!?! 😡😩😡😩😡
