After Hughes was charged and released on bail, he was allowed to continue playing for WBA. Although the media had to lay off him at that time, because Court proceedings were pending, the opposition fans were not subjected to such gagging and there were many more of them at the Baggies' games than there will be at ours. Therefore they gave him absolute hell match after match after match, because in their eyes he was guilty as charged and he had not received any punishment at that stage. So they felt entitled to make his life on the pitch as miserable as possible.

 

Try to put yourself in the place of the oppostion fan, firstly when he played for WBA and secondly when he plays for Latics at some future date. If you know that you would have given him abuse, would your level of abuse have been greater when he was awaiting his appearance in Court, or now that he's been in prison and is out on parole?

I'm looking forward to seeing hughes play. I cant blame the opposing fans for giving him stick coz am sure id do the same if he played for an opposing team. And didnt jermaine pennant play with a tag on? surely the mans served his sentence and deserves a new start. In the eyes of the law he is a free man to do as he likes. And as long as he's scoring plenty of goals and performing on the pitch he has my full support to revive his football career!!!

I think we can definately win this. We was so close away at wolves, and in my opinion, burnley should be a much easier team to beat.

Thats a poor excuse, the high crompton beer walk is usually good fun (weather permitting), there's usually a few kids in the pubs so you could take the nephews with you. And when you cant stand anymore, between the 3 of them they could carry you home and save you money on a taxi!!!

I used to sit in the lookers, or whatever they wanna call it now! Me n my m8 had problems with our language. although when people complained and I started shouting insults in foreign languages they seemed quite confused. 1 guy inparticular used to have a problem with the things we said so we started calling people "lemons". everytime we shouted sumat he started turning round and the look on his face was something I won't forget when he turned round to moan and suddenly realised we had called the ref a lemon. he looked very confused, and realised there was nothing he could do. try that?

I moved from the Chaddy this year to the Ford Stand Paddock mostly to escape the wretched drum. It actually sounds worse from my new seat and at times is the only sound you can hear from the Chaddy as it drowns out those that you can see clapping. Far from adding to the atmosphere it detracts from it. I can't think of anything positive to say about it. Can it be replaced with a trumpet/bugle that the owner plays reveille ala the main stand bugler in days of yore?

 

Happy with my new seat, although I do despair at times. When I shouted 'ref you're a tit' the fella in front of me actually said, 'do you mind, this is the family stand.' When I pointed out that 'tit' was not a swear word, he replied 'it is the way you said it, I've got my grandson with me.' I shook my head and said 'we've all got 'em.'

 

Is 'tit' unacceptable in the Ford Stand? If so I'd be grateful if anybody with a better knowledge of what is unacceptable and what is the correct way to shout borderline acceptable pharases, could provide me with a list and phonetic intructions, so I avoid offending anybody at future matches.

Sounds good to me. Supposed to have moved to america but gonna be back in couple of weeks coz of money problems, so a beer crawl surrounded by latics fans sounds like a pretty good way to cheer me up a bit!!!

He's a young player with growing talent. pacey, gets back to tackle, pushes forward with a good cross. and when he's on target (yeah I know its not too often but neither is wellans n your all kissin his ars) his strikes are amazing! I think a great free kick taker for years to come.

Will and Stam both had good performances, keep em! possibly good on rotation with a new centre back. keep em fightin for a place. keep em on their toes they'll have to push harder!

Liddle, love to say ad miss him but he's crap!

warney gives 110% every match. he is gettin on abit but for the league were in he's great yet! If your gonna use age as a reason for him to go, then just make sure you wernt singin for eyres to get a new contract!!!

Rocastle has got better second half of the season. dunno wether he can be consistent enough tho.

and finally neil wood. am sure hes kept his bench in the changing room warm but aint seen no fire on the pitch, get rid!!!

For some reason the 21st June sticks in my mind, no idea why. It could be something random. It was around then that Sean Jarvis and Neil Joy aquired the club for £1. Latics played with a patched up team of youth players and free transfers the next season, Dowie kept us up, even funding the pre-season tour (to the Isle of Man, i think, could be wrong) out of his own pocket.

Think the tour was Ireland. Could be wrong though!
