Unless folk have been going to Gigg Lane most weeks this season, let's stop guessing and pretending we know anything about why Ripley has only kept 1 clean sheet this season.

He did look like he gave up on trying to do anything with Pringle's equaliser the other week.

For those there yesterday what were your first impressions on Mceleny and how did he look?

Perhaps understandably, had a shocking first ten minutes when he didn't seem to have any kind of control of the the ball but improved after that. Couple of good driving runs to relieve pressure so some promise but I suspect the rest of this season will be a bit of a learning curve at times as he adjusts to the quicker pace of the game.

No celebration what so ever when scoring.....If he doesn't like it here to that extent it's time to depart.

He's never celebrated goals at any of his clubs. He's mentioned it in an interview that some people find it strange but that's just the way he is.

  4. We’ve had very few players that have demanded the ball as much as Byrne in recent seasons but plenty who have hidden from it when things have been tough. Can’t get my head around anyone that wouldn’t want to keep him around whether it’s Steve Eyre or anyone upset that he’s not writing out thank you notes as he leave the field (when every time I’ve seen him him he’s actually made a point of acknowledging the supporters). He can flick the V’s & throwing darts into the crowd as long as he makes us a better team.

If they've made a video begging him to stay and he pisses off to Scunthorpe next week we'll look like the most desperate club in football.

We wouldn’t - it’s a great video. We’d look like we have a club & manager with good humour, whilst also flagging up that he’s ambitious for the club & he’s got a striker playing & scoring again.

You could be right, I think they might have a higher level set up, if so it's something we may be able to achieve after the takeover.

Same category as us & in direct competition for the same players. They have access to the training facility at Carrington as well which may sway some although the more likely reason is that United/ City/ Blackburn didn't release anyone for us to sign as an u16. If the business model of the takeover is to bring in players from overseas to fill out the squad then it's probably more likely that the academy/ youth set up will get canned than beefed up.

You'll also find the six lads brought over are on a fair wedge and they are being put up in a pricey local hotel at I presume AL's expense so it may be these lads who are top earners and not your Flynns, Gerrards, Clarkes and Co. Can't see how we would of got Doyle and Byrne  either without paying a fair chunk if not all what they earn at their parent clubs.

They all look to be crashing with Ousmane Fane according to his Instagram.

It’s amazing how the view on RW has changed.

Pre Sheridan getting sacked if people had been offered Wellens or Scholes or a manager with experience I am certain what the view would have been.

Richie would have been another cheap option, no experience etc.

Its testament to the performances he has extracted and the positive way he talks to the media that now people are disappointed he might not get it.

Totally understand it and yet we have no idea how he would perform during recruitment (or even if that's relevant anymore) and I also look at the impact Hasselbaink made at Northampton. They were bottom when he came in, won the next two & were 2-0 up at Southend (so en route to the kind of recovery we've had) before being pegged back to 2-2. Since then, their record is P6 W0 D2 L4 and he's probably wondering how to turn them around again.

I'd love us to have stumbled upon a good un in Wellens because an ex-player having an impact as a manager convinces you that "it's because 'he understands the club". As you say, he has always talked the talk in every media interview he's given so far but I have a niggling feeling that appointing RW would be a hopeful punt that the few 3 games can be extrapolated for longer & I'm not sure that whoever makes decisions theses days will go for it. I still think Correa.

Correa's always managed though hasn't he? i.e. never been a Director of Football...

Makes sense though if it's the done deal it's always appeared.

Keep the Wellens momentum going then Correa to come "downstairs" if/when it grinds to a halt. Win/win.

Even with three wins out of three and how impressive he's been in dealing with the media, I'm not sure that Wellens will be the one that determines what we do in the next transfer window. It still seems set up for Correa simply because he's long rumoured but I think they'll now feel compelled to keep Wellens involved somehow.

  10. Ruddy is no better than Wilson. Capable of making the occasional good stop but just as likely to make an error & commands very little. That's if we're OK with having to score 2 a game to get any points whilst he learns but I don't think we are. If we have to pay to bench him then we've been done.

Apparently Placide likes to sweep behind the defence which is no bad thing when a couple of them seem to have lost their legs in the summer.

  11. The keeper didn't exactly fill me with confidence yesterday. First game & all that but distribution not great; didn't seem to command much & when he did venture out of his 6 yard box looked jittery & generally fluffed what he was trying to do. Hopefully the arrangement with Wolves doesn't mean we're either forced to play him or pay a fee.

Why does everyone think everything Nixon says is true ? The fact he works for the Sun says it all, dident he say we had no chance of signing Doyle then changed his tune soon as he was announced !

I'd tend to think that not everything he says comes off but much of it has some substance to it initially. I suspect that he has some connections to the club (probably agents) somewhere but that some things (like Doyle) pass him by. This article just seems to sum up the general rumour that had been flying around that this 'may' happen although there doesn't seem to be anything to suggest that it's imminent. Hopefully, the likes of Byrne & Bryan will carry on adding that bit of spark that we need to turn results around for Sheridan because I like the moody, shouty bastard.
