  1. IMO the Dynamos sound like they are being a bit cheeky. I'm sure they would love for the Council to have worked to give them 4 full sized pitches with top facilities, but in the interests of fairness why would they set up just one none-league side in this way? Were Oldham Town going to get a swimming baths and Chadderton a ski slope? It's not their land, why should they be put in charge of valuable facilities when presumably they have nothing financial to put into the project? If they get a nice well maintained pitch with clean changing rooms and use of a bar, catering facilities for big games and places for club events then they should think they have done very nicely indeed out of it.

    Totally agree.

Don't like to push the little guy around as we are generally the little guy, but quite frankly it seems to me they are getting a good deal and are being very cheeky about it too.

I say play ball only cause we have to, I don't care about them one bit, and I am a local.

  2. I asked a Sunderland fan colleague about this guy, he said he's a bit of a mystery, not been seen too often and people have split opinions on him on their forums. Some fans that have seen him for the reserves say get him in there, he's a good un, but others say he's gash and will never be good ebough, really split opinions on him.

So, I reckon he might as well come here, and be hated and loved by our fans instead... At least he would get a game.

  3. Ok, I’m bringing my (rather late) thoughts on the game.

Enjoyable, good tempo, good first time passing moves. Was quite encouraged by how we played.

Very impressed with the centre mid two. Dunno were this Worthy can’t pass thing came from, he looks ok in that department to me, not a world beater, but good enough. The rest of his game is excellent. Furman looks like he could be a big favourite with the fans.

Thought Hazell did better, more physical and worked harder, obviously had a kick up the backside.

I really like Jacobson, any news on his injury?

Abbott worked hard, didn’t look lazy to me. Can play a bit too, some nice flicks and unfortunate not to get a goal.

Byfield, the controversial man himself. Well I thought he did well, it was a very Warney type performance, but if he did a Warney every game I reckon he would get some goals at this level. If we were to sign him then they we would need to shift Lewi out on loan.

    What a freekick from KP!

    Still need a CB!

The only other negative is the keeper looks suspect, but everyone seems to agree with that one, no controversy there! Give him time and we will see…

  4. did you see the oldham player get a kick to the head

rubbed it and got on with it..........brilliant

    well found

LOL, it was briliant, he just carried on, rubbing his head a little. He would still be rolling around on the floor now if footy was like it is now.

Loved watching this old footage. I know it probably wont ever happen, but some sort of offical DVD would be brilliant. One featuring old and rare footage, more relevent now we will be losing BP too.

Any other clips like this online?

  5. Apparently I live in a shanty town slum…just never realised it… guess I am used to it. Nurture and all that.

Will you put some money into my MacDonalds cup when I am begging outside BP before the game on Saturday… course I won’t be going in, can’t afford it… I will just listen outside. Hope it’s not as quiet as usual.

In all seriousness though Hallamblue and Prendy 1984, there was some interesting reading there.

    http://www.upmystreet.com/local/neighbours-in-m35.html was just funny though.

They also like to listen to light classical music

Interest in current affairs – Low

However, putting my postode in was pretty accurate, so maybe there are locals who shut themselves in the house all day to listen to classical music at the possible expense of knowing what the hell is going on in the world around them.

In my time here I have not heard of much crime, not seen many (if any) boarded up houses, not seen thousand of huge obese people wandering the streets looking like a heart attack is imminent, no beggers or homeless people. Locals seem ok, generally seems a nice place to live to me. I can only take it as I have found it.

Hopefully this development and the coming tram facilities will raise the profile of my town.

    Anyway, welcome to Failsworth Oldhamer's.

  6. It was the 'Parts of Failsworth are amongst the most deprived areas of Oldham' comment that I was asking for clarification on. I would be surprised to find this, and interested to see data on the subject.

Another anecdotal note, I have never had my car broken into in Failsworth (or City centre Manchester, for that matter, and I park there regularly), but I have in Oldham. Not saying this proves this or that, but I am just giving my side of the story, I am only commenting on a personal experience. So this in addition to the race riots makes me feel like I live in superior place actually.

Maybe I am seeing things from the other side of the fence to you, maybe I have rose tinted specs, but maybe you, and many other are wearing similar, spouting anti Manchester comments about mugging and scallies. Everywhere has that kinda thing, but in my genuine personal experience of living here I have always considered Failsworth ‘posher’ than most of Oldham.

After the above comments I will no doubt be mercilessly attacked from many of you, but I am just expressing my opinion, and asking for data to back up claims about my home town.

  7. Well I aint tryin to say that everyone from Failsworth is racist or a fascist. But racism is normally found in poorer and more deprived areas. Parts of failsworth are amongst the most deprived areas of Oldham.

Is that true? Can you point me to a website or something. Suprised to hear if this is true to be honest.

I have gold taps and marble floors here.

Just off to beat my servants (that sounds wrong).

  8. You could drop the Failsworth it will still find the club

    True, I agree.

I was just saying I have never, ever seen anyone list a Failswoth address as Failsworth, Oldham.

I don't care about this by the way, really I don't, it was just an insider (as in a local) comment.

Anyway, how many on here are from Failsworth? We need to make sure we do our bit when other locals start moaning about the plans.

  9. This thread typifies Oldham fans......

I live in Failsworth, grew up supporting Man United. At the age of 14 (10 years ago) I decided to start watching Oldham Athletic, where I soon discovered the joys of it being an achievement when the team I supported won a game rather than wondering whether United won 5 or 6-0. I'll admit my friends don't support Oldham but they do go to the odd game and do support Oldham. Yes, not a lot of people in Failsworth support Oldham, but I changed and so can others.

I'm not going to pretend I know all the history from the so called glory days but it really does seem like the vast majority of Oldham fans live in the past.

How does the past affect the future? Are you all happy to sit in a miserable stadium with no atmosphere - due to poorly designed stands and the fact the majority of fans especially the main stand just sit there watching in silence, only raising their voice to berate or moan - watching players who plainly find it difficult to be motivated playing in the BP environment.

Compare how many players have said the facilities influenced their decision to join against the number who have rejected us because of the facilities??

If it was financially viable for the TTA to remain at BP do you not think they would have done?

They have given 6 years of investment/subsidence to a club who think they have a given right to be in a higher division because they have been there in the past and to a town that is an absolute shambles.

If they leave for which no-one could blame them, where the hell would we be?

The town centre is depressing and full of gimps, the council is by and large a joke. The only positive is the 6th form college.

If I was looking to invest in a football team/town Oldham would be way down the list, I'm sorry to say that given I went to school and college here, but there is nothing pro-active about the town.

This football stadium would change that. For gods sake it would be an extra 5 minutes in a car down a dual carriageway, not much longer on the 24 or 182 bus.

It's either this stadium and a promising future, or a continuation of a football team made up of players wanting one last pay cheque, youngsters who get berrated at the slightest thing, playing in a depressing environment and the club plodding along in this division year after year.

THE PAST IS THE PAST, THIS CLUB NEEDS TO MOVE FORWARD. CHERISH YOUR MEMORIES IF YOU WANT - THEY WON'T GET THE CLUB ANYWHERE.

Here here. Words of sense from a fellow Failsworthian. We aren't so bad after all eh?

It's true the address won't have the word Oldham in, or if it does that's just to keep some fans happy, my address is also Failsworth, Manchester, M35. Never seen anyone list Failsworth as Oldham on a business or home address etc.

I totally agree that we see ourselves as Mancs... My accent is nothing like the broad accents I hear on a match day at BP, nor is it the northern monkey inbred dirty city *&$£ Liam (can't stand Oasis, in case you didn't notice that). Young un's have def gone more 'Manc' than me though.

Alright our kid, I'm gonna do one now. (...Struts off)

  10. It will make a nice change for me also, been travelling up there, so I agree, now it's other people's turn.

Now I get to take a short stroll (which will probably become a drunken stagger) from my house. No more driving to games. No more getting my car broken into on the official car park!

I am prob different from most of you, I am a Manc (born at St Mary's, always lived in Failsworth), but also an Oldham fan. Not an Oldham fan cause of an affinity to the town, Oldham just happen to be my team, a choice as a kid (My family are Man U and Dirty City, I'm the only one who has been saved). So my choice was not an easy or popular one! Been a season ticket holder 12-ish years.

I do consider Failsworth to be Manchester, but I understand that many of you wont like this. I have an 0161 phone number and an M35 post code, however, I pay my council tax to OMBC, so who knows?

In fact on that subject, I had an issue with refuse collection once around two years ago (won't bore you any more than that) and called OMBC, their initial comment was why am I calling them, I should be calling Manchester! I pointed out that in my opinion they were right, but they were happy to take my council tax payments. After consulting a colleague the lady helped me out.
