  1. Should we therefore expect that none of these players should be in the squad for the opening games of the season? Reason: Players told that they are NOT part of the managers plans.......so squad BIG ENOUGH? Remember Kieron Lee told the same last year!!!

Read that Joe Jacobson wants to stick around and fight for a place in the team. Also that some of the others would too but would be happy to go out on loan.

source was one of the Jewish mags.

  2. The mods are overzealous as it is without having new posters vetting as well, rediculous nazi like idea

The forums have too many sections as it is, you come on, see theres maybe 1 or 2 threads that you havnt read, glance at them to see they arnt very interesting and then leave. Having everything merged in to the same threads is a bad idea also, id rather scroll through the first couple/few pages of the forum than scroll through a 20 page thread to find some decent posts. Different threads of similar topic are good, you will remember one that had some interesting posts in it and then you can check back and read that one rather than have to read it merged with a load of crap from another thread you didnt want to read, usually with conversations of the people moaning on here about new posters about things complete non latics related. Forums basically sort themselves out, posts that people arnt interested in wont get replies and fall down the ladder, why can't you just let it do that and do what a mod should do and thats remove abuse etc, would make your jobs a lot easier and improve the quality imo.

Right on the nail with that.

  3. The only small problem (and it is a very small problem) i have is with the amount of threads that are locked. For example, on matchdays there used to be all different threads about the match. But last season there was just one designated match thread which ended up getting several pages long and i simply couldn't be arsed reading it. In my opinion, lots of smaller threads are better than one big one. Just my opinion, and like i said, it is only a small problem i have.

    agree entirely

  4. Definitely agree about fitness and confidence, and that CT plays on the left, but I definitely think he should be able to play o the right too, in his original position. In fact, if his development went as it should do, we should see him swapping wings during the game dependant on the circumstances and full-backs to provide maximum threat.

I would go far as o say he could possibly even play a free role, if we had the midfield backing necessary.

I would like to see him swapping wings too. It would make it much more difficult for teams nuetralize him the way so many have.

  5. I have had lots of problems over the last 24 hours logging in.

    Anyone else?

I have set up this new user name, but I would really like my old one, may I ask anyone help?

I have written serveral times to the modteam@owtb.co.uk, though I appreciate you are volunteeers in your own time.

    May I sugest

    i) A link outside the forum to contact you guys.

ii) Gmail be accepted as an email, googlemail is, but gmail is not, depsite being the same address

    ii)

    cheers

PS sorry it is not a good first post.

Gannon out, or Bunn you were 2nd choice

I have had a few problems similar over the years and ended up having to do what you did and open a new account as I never got any replys to emails I sent.

fortunately on each occasion for inexplicable reasons out the blue sometimes several days later my old account would become accessible.

  6. [sorry but did I say that I did not rate Eardley highly?

As a matter of fact I do and since he left there has been a gaping hole at right back. Lee is the first player to come anywhere near filling his shoes and in my humble opinion has the potential to go on to be as good if not better than Eardley.

As an echo to your post

Taking nothing away from Eardley, just annoys me that even now people don't see what we HAVE in Kieran Lee.

  7. Today the back four were pretty solid. The strikers made themselves a handful without creating too much but what was happening in the midfield? There seemed to be no plan, no shape, no organisation and NO ONE playing like a winger. The nearest thing to wing play was in the second after Colbeck went off and Lee got forward once or twice. I was really pleased for Lee today. He played with a cool head and made Colbeck look like a headless chicken with him on the right.

  8. Has anyone noticed that the results of OAFC seem to be in direct correlation to how the town is going, with the exception of a few seasons where we punched above our weight, everytime the town seems to be struggling so do the football club,

and when the town was doing well, the club seemed to get a lot more support and seemed to be flying higher in the leagues,

which raises the question, could a good strong leadership in oldham help to change our fortunes? (not just with support for stadium)

    what do you think?

I would say so. I think the feel good factor works both ways. For me I think the council has always underestimated the importance of the football club and it's success to the town but I also think that if the town was on the up we would see more interest in the club.

  9. Hmmm. It only compounds things for me does that.

Doesn't the club bang on about how their covers are effective for temperatures of up to -4?

Minus 5 eh? A whole 4 degrees colder at BP than at my house in Hollinwood. It was minus 1 when I got home at 4am, I made a point of checking the temperature to gauge whether the game should be on.

Seems to me like others have alluded to, is that the area in front of the stand is mostly the problem. Can't we provide more covers than that?

As a side note, I'm not questioning the groundsman for his dedication. I do know he spend 24 hour shifts trying to get our ground fit during the recent freeze. Ultra important we got this game on today.

The ONLY relevant place to check the tempreture is on the pitch in the precise area the ref has concerns for. You can have vast differences in temperature over just an area of 50 square metres let alone a mile or more and the frost will tend to be worse at the lowest part of the area and not the highest or where the sun cannot reach it.

So to try to say you know better than the people in a position to judge is really just ridiculous and being controversial for the sake of it.

  10. I saw this quote regarding the Notts County takeover and I have to agree with the poster.

As another neutral observer, I'd support the points made by NORWICHFANON606 -- the prospect of a club, whether it's Notts County, Man City, or Madrid, living way beyond its means simply harms football as a whole.

If Notts Co start paying wages of 40kpw and more to their players, soon that will be the expectation of players throughout League 2. Transfer fees will rocket, and clubs who aren't bankrolled by sugar daddies will either not be able to compete or will go bankrupt trying.

How can this be good for football? Indeed, how can it be good for Notts County, in the long run? I don't think so.

This is not envy, or spite, just good business sense. As a long-time Arsenal fan, I wholeheartedly applaud my club's determination to live within its income, and would strongly reject any approach by a certain Russian (or any other party) to bankroll the club, even if it means we can't afford to pay £80m for a Ronaldo or a Messi.

I would urge Notts County supporters to temper their excitement and urge the club to live within its means, and not to seek to buy success at any cost. Where's the sport in that?

I would not want this to happen at Oldham for all the same reasons.

I think in the end it will be self destructive for the football in the UK if sugar daddies become the precedent for success at a club.

  11. Just emailed this to the Chron. Maybe we should all send something?

"I am very disappointed with the general negativity continually spewing out of the paper with most matters concerning Oldham Athletic Football club but it now seems to have hit an all time low with the Uninformed pre-emptive journalism with respect to the site of a possible new stadium development.

It does your paper and arguably our most important town icon no good whatsoever.

Do you have some kind of vendetta or is it just down to poor journalistic decisions?

Should you not be trying harder to support initiatives that would enhance the facilties and standing of the town?"
