No, he died 2 or 3 years ago.
Sadly died of prostate cancer after being a representative of the Prostate Cancer charity. My son and I met him at Wembley after one of Jeff Stelling’s marathon walks as one of 2 ex-international players giving us a medal, and he was a true gentleman- very pleasant and just an ordinary bloke. In stark contrast to the other ‘celebrity’ international who was Geoff Hurst, a more miserable and disinterested character you couldn’t expect to meet!!
Being such a nice bloke doesn’t make his son necessarily the best option for Latics though.

That's a bit weird. Are there many Dorking fans in Sussex?
Maybe not, but I’m currently in Sussex so maybe it’s for me .

Nah, it'll take him years to turn it round. He'll be inheriting a terrible squad. Even with heavy investment, York fans are going to have to be patient...
A bit like us, you mean?

Successful football managers are either good or lucky.
I’m losing faith in the former, but he’s definitely failed the latter.

That depends on which side of the DU fence you sit on.
Either way I just hope we win the next 10 games.
I’m on the give him time to get his team on the pitch, then slaughter him if we aren’t top 5 form.
I was at Southend for probably the most inept performance of many dreadful ones in the last 30 years, but he still needs the chance to work with his first choice midfield, as this continues to be our significant weakness.

I understand Boreham Wood have a few injuries to key players, hope we can capitalise on that situation.
Same as us then, but while injuries to the opposition gives us expectations to win we don’t think injuries to our lot is a good enough reason not to win!

Has to happen.
The man is a fucking idiot if he cannot see where our problems lie.
Yes we need a RB, but we need a lot more than Lundstram in CM to sort this out. The management/coaching is horrendous. Best pre season possible apparently.
And as for the fans, some absolute nob heads amongst us. Constant vitriol towards Nuttall but not a word about Fondop’s air shot at 1-0. If that was Nuttall, people would be foaming at the mouth.
If Unsworth thinks our only issue is RB, he’s warped.
Thought exactly the same re Fondop’s miss and the furore there would have been if Nuttall was responsible.
Today at least, the main problem was not with the strikers but with the gutless performance from midfield.

Is Norman short-sighted?
Get him down to Specsavers first thing Monday!

We have 5 or 6 new players, a full close season and absolutely nothing has changed.
FFS. we.still.have.no.midfield!!!
This exactly.
Criticism of Norwood and Nuttall, yet the issue time and time again is our extremely poor midfield. Granted, we are missing the lad from Altrincham and Green is missing, but there is just nothing there in that first half. Desperately need to strengthen midfield as top priority.- 1

I would give anyone at least three games before writing off, but not a good start! Abraham definitely an upgrade on today’s performance.

Pete Wild at least gets some revenge on Mark Hughes 28 years later. 96th minute winner.

While I've been going to watch Bath City, it's surprising how many ex-Latics are knocking about the National League South, the sixth tier of English football.
Peter Taylor, former Spurs and England winger who played about four games on loan at Latics was manager at Welling United from last September until he was replaced last month by... wait for it... Warren Feeney.
Robbie Simpson is player-manager at Chelmsford City.
James Dayton is playing for Dulwich Hamlet and has really honed his skills. On how to fall over, landing on his arse with arms outstretched, claiming he was fouled.
Sam Mantom is captain at Hemel Hempstead Town. Not a Latic, but Samir Carruthers is there as well.
Sido Jombati, Dominic Poleon and Christian N'Guessan are all at Ebbsfleet United.
George Elokobi is at Maidstone United
There is no truth in the rumour that the lesser-spotted Rob Purdie is plying his trade down here.
Oh well, on to do the Prediction League now.
Warren Feeney is manager of Welling United. He brought his team down to Tonbridge Angels on Saturday and was thankfully as effective as a manager as he was as a striker for Latics!

Very surprised Peter Clarke not on anyone’s list! Maybe rose coloured spectacles only available after they’ve left for more than 5 years?
I would go for Clarke, Sheridan and Ripley.
-
Agreed - while we’d all like to be further up the league, and would have been if Surridge hadn’t cleared off, don’t forget that Sky weren’t the only ‘experts’ that had us down for the drop. In the circumstances surrounding the club Bunn and Wild have done a remarkable job.

Sussed!
Where do you live?

Not sure we’ve been THAT boring this season - only 3 teams have scored more than us, and this from a team that many said lacked any decent strikers at various times in the season.

Appreciate the update.
I work in Tonbridge BTW so also appreciate the journey you made!
Silver wedding anniversary trip for the Missis .
2 of us in Tonbridge - plus my lad makes 3. We could start our own branch of supporters!

Travelled up from Kent for this one, having seen plenty of away matches this season and been very proud of our support despite some very disappointing performances.
There can be no criticism of Wild for picking the same team after 3 wins, but with the exception of Missilou the midfield were poor in the first half. But at 1-0 up and not seemingly in any danger of conceding, a half time lead looked safe despite us not seeing much of the ball until Edmondson over did it a bit. So close to the break too!
Second half started the same, and tbh we only started playing when we went 2-1 down. Coincidence that Jose and Sylla joined the fray? I think not, and these 2 need to start at Cheltenham. Poor old Lang ran his legs off as usual but should easily have had at least two.
Mom definitely Missilou for me, but must mention Clarke who surely must be offered a new contract. His contribution is massive, and continues to be “the leader of the Latics’.

Or Crawley ...

If only we could rewind those Morecambe, Crewe, Cambridge etc games wasted under the Scholes' experiment and give them to PW to play!
-
Lang never stops running. Real asset to this team.

I’ll bet it sounds more exciting if you’re not here!

Not sure I have ever been prouder of my team than I was today. Don’t get to many games these days being down south but I was there today. The fans were magnificent.
Clarke and Missilou were outstanding, the latter Kante-like. I agree that Maouche was largely poor.
Likewise, based in the south I only get to about a dozen matches, but just can't give it up after 40 years. That one today is for my son who adopted Latics because of me but despite me suggesting he'd have a happier life supporting virtually anyone else, and other than Liverpool has had little to feed off in his almost 20 years supporting. He now drags 4 of his mates everywhere with him to most away matches. Might have to live off this for a while, who knows?
Great atmosphere today, and gracious Fulham fans in the tube back.
Agree Clarke and Missilou the best of 12 heroes on the pitch today. Thought for Frankie, but good to see us keeping one or two players up when defending corners.

It's like choosing your favourite child!
Missilou was majestic today and needs to be given a longer contract asap.
