Most of last season I think it was about 50/50 on Nuttall….now he rarely figures in any of supporters potential lineup’s.

Is there any way back for him now?……..personally, I think he’s had his chance and blown it big style. I think a move away would now be best for both parties.

    Opinions?

He always looks like he needs plugging in and charging up. Doesn’t look interested. Occasionally he plays well for parts of a game but never a full one. Frustrating because I think he is a decent footballer but his application is awful.

To my mind the whole problem has been caused by media/tv and twats like Lineker, Shearer and Wright. They spotlight the mistakes/alleged mistakes made by officials over and over again and demand that every decision should be 100% correct. Times were when refs and linesmen made on the spot decisions and they were accepted by players. Some you won, some you lost. Decisions were not picked over by "has beens" who wanted to cause controversy.

    Absolutely.
Problem is if VAR is ditched the whinging will increase.
I think these discussions between 3 or 4 ex players before during and after a game are a joke anyway and most of them talk bollocks, drawing silly circles around players and blowing out hot air.

Whether they deserve respect or not constant whinging gets a booking or worse.

It's not a very professional attitude, more schoolboy than experienced pro. 👎

Sadly it’s rife in football, I recall so many times prior to VAR “pundits “ lambasting the referees decisions In games. Then VAR arrives and that gets criticised. Can’t win really. Don’t know why anyone would want to be a referee.
That said, some of the officials in NL need some retraining . Saturday was another poor display from a referee.

Main problem I have with Green is not his ability but his desire, sometimes he just looks half arsed, won't stick a foot in where it may hurt or even be brave enough on the ball, when he's on it he would be almost unplayable at this level but he needs to be relentless and keep pouring the pressure on his fullback, he has an habit of taking his foot off the gas and looking for the easy option as opposed to asking the questions, he was isolated one on one yesterday the majority of the time but still chose to go inside or backwards which was frustrating, nobody is going to criticise a winger for being brave it's what most of us older fans were brought up on and I wish he'd just add that to his game.

He looked tired towards the end of the game and I noticed a couple of times Freeman bypassing him straight to Reid.

I think he beat his man ( which is actually his job as a ‘winger’ ) twice in the whole 90 minutes and got in one decent cross.

No doubt about it…..he was piss poor!

I’m not a happy clapper for Green but he got a few decent crosses in and forced several corners in the second half with Freeman helping him out, who incidentally I thought played very well to say he hasn’t played for weeks.

I'm sure Mellon wants to see what the players can do on the pitch, after today Nuttall has done himself no favours, what he sees in Green to keep starting him is beyond me. I'm sure once Ward Gardner and Dickenson are fit Green will be out of the match day squad.

I think greens pace and link up play with freeman worked ok today. He’s not the best but he put a couple of decent crosses in today which should have been used much better than they were.

Used his pace to get in behind a few times. Turned a defender and then tried to lay it into Norwood at one point which was a decent idea. I think he just made us look more dangerous, the threat of his pace can cause the opposition to react differently, Alty definitely played a lot deeper when he came on....

He didn’t seem to do much but he definitely gave their defence more to think about than Nuttall.

God its dire reading on here. Many positives to take from today, especially given we were playing against 12 men.

Hudson improved distribution both accuracy and speed which has been well needed.

Enjoyed the underlapping fullbacks and although clearly not match sharp, Freeman was a huge breath of fresh-air.

Hobson an absolute rock at the back, again.

McGahey looks to split lines with his passing, something we lack through the whole squad.

Cant understand the Lundstram hate? retains the ball, tidy passing, non stop energy, always willing to press, always willing to drive from midfield. He's not Bellingham granted but he is quality for this division.

Looked to keep the ball and build from the back. We will only get better the more we play like that.

I think a (long term) RB and a CM that can add that incisive pass (and who isn't made of rich tea biscuits) and we make the playoffs.

Good post , my only issue is we can’t seem to hold a system together long enough for it to count. I hope Mellon can find a formula soon.
probably in a minority here but I thought Mcgahey did ok today .

I wouldn't say we controlled the game but we did have more of the ball than in some of the games I've seen. I'd say we were ok but we need to be better than that if we want to get into the play offs.

We still lack abit of inventiveness . I actually thought Sheron had a poor game until he put that one in the top corner with his weaker foot. Apart from his shocking miss I though Hallam Hope did well 2nd half as he showed intent to go looking for the ball and trying to make things happen.

I still believe we can make the play offs. We will have to be better than that though. This squad will look different in a couple of months time. The first target though needs to be a magic man/code breaker who can open up tight defenses we don't have that and it showed second half if we did we would have won that today.

Do you think the squad will look different? Do you mean as in new faces or just a shuffle of the existing lot?

You can't seriously think the play-offs are out of the question?

I wouldn’t say out of the question but I’ve seen more than enough of this squad to know they are as unpredictable and unreliable as the British weather . Chasing a game again. Frightened of the ball. Norwood all over the place doing everyone’s job for them. Great goal by sheron though and at least we came out and played a bit second half for a change.
