Too much sitting back , too much losing the ball after winning it. Ffs. Their goal was coming one way or the other.
see what we’re made of now. -
Maybe MM has worked out how to instil that tough mindset you need to start winning consistently, or maybe we’ve just won a game… Wednesday and the games after will provide evidence .

I think we’re all agreed on how well we played yesterday, but I’ve read a few saying let’s not get carried away with one performance. While it’s a true that’s it’s the first 90 minute performance, large elements of yesterday have been there for weeks.
The same players who looked bereft of confidence under Unsy, and unable to create or pass. Are suddenly carving numerous chances. Our ball retention is very good. Our passing is night and day. We are moving the ball from front to back a lot quicker. Prior to yesterday the above was coming in spells, but I didn’t mind that because you could see team transitioning to what the manager wants, and it was always going to take a while to bed in.
We will have hiccups (flyde) but I’m really confident that we’re finally going places.
I didn’t see the game yesterday league one but it sounds like you were impressed and a was an impressive performance collectively. I’m hoping one thing MM can do is add consistency. Barnet needs to be treated the same, with no showboating or complacency .

To add, though Fondop missed 2 absolute sitters, his impact was very good. Held the ball up well, won his headers and harassed the fuck out of their defenders.
Wasn’t on the same wavelength as Norwood early on in the game where balls went through to the keeper, but I thought he’s worthy of a start next game.I knew that’s what Fondop would do, he’s not the answer to all our woes but he’s really handy to have around .

It's like the best present we could ever receive
Year's of misery finally starting to turn a corner
Chuffed!
I didn’t see the game but it did sound pretty resounding albeit only by a goal. It seemed we completely controlled the game and Norwood received high praise today .

Eight games between now and New Year, you'd like to be winning at least five of them to start cutting down that gap to the top seven.
Doesn't look like there is anything in the pot to do anything transfer wise until January so it is up to those already in the building.
Probably see the new year in then in 11th/12th

We were extremely unlucky not to keep a clean sheet on Saturday for my money. Did Hudson have a save to make other than the penalty? I don’t think an opposition team have created less against us than that this season
That’s the disappointing thing for me, they had nothing really from defence upwards, and we couldn’t make a dent in them and conceded again. I think Mellon will improve us but only very marginally with this squad.

Do you think we can go up this season though?
The language that's being used on the podcast recently suggests that this season is being seen as a write-off I really don't see that we were a suspect penalty away from 3 points on Saturday.
I don't believe we are as far away as some people believe. In the second half of this season some of those clubs with small squads will fatigue abd we will reel them in. We saw last season we can go on a good run of results in the second half of the season. If we get those 2-3 players in then man for the man squad will be stronger, we will starting our run from higher up in the table and we will be doing so with an experienced manager and one who knows how to win promotion.
We are in better position than some think we are. This season should not be seen as a write off yet.
I kind of agree with the podcast , when I look at how the season has panned out so far we are pretty much where I expect us to be at the end of this campaign. I look at the last 3 or 4 results, the last two of which we have only managed draws, dodgy refereeing decisions or not, both should have been convincing victories with what should now be settled squad regardless of the new manager. It’s another rebuild I think , not to the extent of last season but new faces with a new mindset are needed I think.

Reid has been scoring the goals lately but I’m not sure he’s the answer long term. He’s very lightweight and gets knocked off the ball far too easily.
Like Fondop I think he’d be better as an impact player.
I still don’t think we have a proper partner for Norwood although I thought Willoughby did well when he came on and perhaps could play wide left in a 442?
I agree, as crazy as it sounds with 5 forwards. Lost count of the amount of crosses , decent ones aswell with nobody meeting them. Someone Matt Smith esque.

Did anyone notice the poppies mown into the grass on each alternate segment of the pitch on the JR side of the ground?
So thanks to the ground staff - they do deserve more praise - as the pitch is amazing for this time of the year.
Well done!! .
Thanks - Brian,
I saw it, don’t know how they did it but it was a nice touch . I think the whole remembrance thing was wonderful to be honest and the silence was impeccable.

I thought they matched us up well
Francillette like Hobson was immense at the back for them and we didn't have enough to win that game but it will come
I can feel it
I hope you’re right. They did ok at the back but how many good balls did we put over in particularly in the first half with nobody on the end of them
-
That game should have been comfortably over in the first half, garbage ref or not. They were extremely poor, what you’d call classic spoilers. Got to win games like that

Poor poor result against terrible opposition

Think we will set up for the point and probably get it, 0-0.
Christ I hope not, I’m not paying good money to watch us go all siege like against Eastleigh .

I don’t know this, but I get the feeling the players liked Thommo, maybe some are a bit annoyed he didn’t get the job ? - pure speculation.
Possibly, they seemed to like him, but they’re playing for the club. Possibly need reminding of that some of them.

Any more news on loans in and out?

Meanwhile, you conveniently ignore the thrashing by lowly Fylde - possibly the worst performance I`ve ever seen from a Latics team (eclipsing Alty away last season). If ST had have been in charge for that match, I think the reaction would have been far more negative and vociferous. Newport was an insipid performance too.
I`ll repeat again, rude, MM has my full support but he's surely not immune from observation? There has been an initial regression. The defence is suddenly letting more goals in and we are losing games. We weren't under ST.
I genuinely expect a very strong home performance this weekend. MM/Brabin have now had time to have a real good look at what they have got and to stamp their authority on the squad (they seem that type). Upwards and onwards.
Yes, we need to see some glimpses this weekend of some intent and and what’s to come from here. Can’t believe I’m saying this yet again to be honest. MM should be given full backing and support but in return we need some pay back on the field, and I’m not talking next season either. Apparently he’s Inherited some good players (although I do wonder sometimes) so let’s see what he can do. I have to say aswell , players these days seem devoid of any accountability. As several managers come and go from club to club (not just ours) squads often remain intact ready for another manager to carry the can. I’m not sure how you’d make them more accountable but you rarely hear much in the way of criticism levelled at players as a group.
