If you can get content without paying for it in any way, but the person that made the content charges for it - and did not sanction the free method of distribution, it's probably illegal. uTorrent and other torrent clients are just apps to manage torrent downloads. Torrents are a method of copying files, with some distinct advantages over normal systems (size management for example). They're not illegal in and of themselves, though they're often used for illegal purposes.
