John Battye's a huge Latics fan. And he's from up Saddleworth way too, so could this be a bit of a fix to get the stadium pushed through then?

The main point isn't so much who came in and out as overall Labour took 3 seats from the Lib Dems, meaning that with the mayor's casting vote this year Labour can effectively take over the running of the council from the Lib Dems.

That means Jim McMahon as council leader.

Labour may only have control for a year, but that's long enough to kill Failsworth and kill Latics.

Labour & The Lib dems both have 27 seats. The Tories have 5. Therefore the mayor does not have the casting vote. The tories do and jack Hulme as leader of the local party is currently king maker as the saying goes.

It depends what the Tories decide to do. I suspect on the main votes they'll abstain - in which case it'll be down to the one independent, or the mayor.

If Labour do form an administration on that basis, at least we hopefully have the safety valve of the Tories voting against anything really stupid.

It was the liberals who killed SportsPark2000. Hopefully, if there are latics fans in the council, they could see the madness of a move to Newton Heath.

The irony of a Lib Dum saying that.

The irony of a Lib Dum saying that.

The world is full of irony.

If a few people got their heads out of the :censored: sand they'd appreciate that it has been a Lib Dem council that has wholeheartedly supported Latics in finding a suitable site and backing for the new stadium development.

It's not their fault that the town is full of neanderthal :censored: NIMBYS who Labour are happy to pander to for a few votes, at the expense of any progress or (God forbid) change in the town.

It has been said before that (some) Latics fans have the club they deserve. Maybe Oldham's fine citizens have now got the council they deserve.

Still looking backwards I see. That's the biggest problem with this town.

It was never going to happen anyway, it's just that folk love to pick a scapegoat.

Wrong. The biggest thing wrong with this town is the party politics.

It's about time it was all put to one side and ALL councilors started to put Oldham first rather than their party or their career.

The future of the town is just too important to :censored: about it with. All councilors should get together and start acting in the best interests of the Borough and it's ratepayers.
