Diego_Sideburns
This was the date back in 1295, when King Edward I called the first elected representatives from Lancashire to Westminster to attend Parliament. This was later to be known as the Model Parliament and was seen as the beginning of democracy in Britain. Lancashire Day allows us the opportunity to declare that we are proud to be Lancastrians. The Lancashire Day proclamation will be read out today by town criers throughout the county, including from the top of Blackpool Tower and locally at: Chadderton (Town Hall Steps at 12 noon and then at the shopping Precinct); Shaw & Crompton (at 10:00am outside the Blue Bell Inn, Market Street); and many Lancashire towns will be holding events to mark the celebrations. In Littleborough there will be a reading of the Lancashire Proclamation at 5.00pm followed by the Christmas Lights switch-on at 6.30pm with children's rides, charity stalls, Littleborough Brass Band and Morris Dancers. Once again the Official Beer of Lancshire Day is Thwaites Flying Shuttle, named after the invention that changed cotton-making in Lancashire from a labour intensive cottage industry to an efficient, industrial powerhouse. It’s a dark coloured beer that has a lightly hopped, fruit aroma with a rich, nutty flavour.
kirinclassic
Wish I was there. And it irks that those over the hill do their day better. All the same, I'll pick a red rose today... Lankyshire Oi! Oi! Oi! Cheers, KC
slurms mckenzie
Good work. Seems a shame that we don't seem to celebrate our Lancastrian pride as much as our Yorkshire neighbours do for their Yorkshireness.... leeslover
Good work. Seems a shame that we don't seem to celebrate our Lancastrian pride as much as our Yorkshire neighbours do for their Yorkshireness.... The downtrodden usually make more of that sort of thing than the winning side.
