Latics youth v Dale youth

Recommended Posts

The Chapel Road pitch is frozen, so there is an attempt being made to get the game played at Hopwood Hall, Middleton (M24 6XH). They are 99% sure that the game will be on at Hopwood Hall (artificial pitch) with a 10:30am kick-off.

THanks for the update, I think I'll go to the gym instead!

Slightly O/T - If Chapel Road is frozen, do you reckon Tate Street will also be frozen?

Latics youth 2- 1 Dale youth

It was a return to 'plastic paradise' for Latics this morning, with the Lancashire Youth Cup quarter-final tie switched to the artificial surface at the Middleton campus of Hopwood Hall. Having already defeated near-neighbours Rochdale in the Youth Alliance Cup quarter-final last month, Latics made it to through to another semi-final with a battling victory. Rochdale played the better football throughout the game but Latics put in a display of steeliness and now play the winners of the tie between Burnley and Tranmere Rovers.

Latics took the lead against the run of play when, following hesitancy in the Dale defence, Matty A Carr was on hand to slot home. The scoreline became even more flattering minutes later when pressure from Kyle Riley led to an own goal and somehow Latics found themselves two up before the quarter hour. A pacy Dale forward line gave Latics all kinds of problems but they couldn't find a breakthrough and two-nil was the score at the half-time whistle.

Rochdale deservedly found a way back into the game within a minute of the restart, finding space on their left before slotting neatly passed Shaun Routledge. Thereafter, it became a niggly affair, with the game punctuated by free-kicks. Some, at times, desperate defending maintained Latics' advantage, whilst Kyle Riley constantly hassled and harried the Dale defence. Latics could have extended their lead late on but a free-kick from substitute David Mellor drew a fine save from the Dale 'keeper. Schoolboy, Chris Sutherland impressed in a twenty minute substitute appearance, having replaced Ryan Burns.

Next up for Tony Philliskirk's young charges is a Football Youth Alliance league game against Accrington at Chapel Road next Saturday, with hopes of a top three finish still very much alive.
