Museum de Latique
The Latics U-18's beat Tranmere Rovers this afternoon by the narrowest of margins. A even first half brought few chances but Latics found themselves one down when the Tranmere winger curled a shot around Dale Connor from the corner of the 18 yard box. Tony Philiskirk made a couple of substitutions and one of them equalised. Connor Hughes riding a couple of tackles before firing home from the edge of the box after 70 minutes. The game opened up in the final 20 minutes with Latics going close on a few occasions with Laird and Burns missing when in great positions. To be fair to Tranmere they also spurned chances to score - especially a delightful chip from the sub striker which the wind just took over the bar. David Mellor had the final chance of the game when he balooned a penalty over. Lancashire FA games are always 90 minutes then into spot kicks. Latics lead and the Jack Laird and Matty D Carr scored theirs as did the Tranmere player between them, 2-1 then. The next seven penalties where saved by the goalkeepers. Not one bad kick amongst them. The final Tranmere kick was just fingertipped onto the upright by Dale Connor to give Latics victory. The other semifinal took place at the same time with Preston winning by 1-0 over Bury. Latics will host Preston in the final TBA
