Mmm.
It’s a nice effort, if there wasn’t multiple stories (which I’m sure are all made up because he seems a lovely guy and he always performs. . . ) about him being an absolute cock.
But- having said that, he is a good footballer so maybe we should we pray at his feet and thank the lord he is here, because without him. . let’s face it we’d probably end up folding.
Bit dramatic, no?

I saw James Norwood in a supermarket in Salford yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a dick and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Get rid imo

Only 65 votes. Look at the comments on Facebook and Twitter. its mostly negative about the manager and of course the players.
Facebook and twitter, notoriously full of level headed opinions

Not many level headed latics fans. i would say its 60/40 and not in his favour at the moment
This has it 60/40 the other way. Not conclusive but it's a decent sample size, I'd say most posters on here are level headed

What galled me yesterday was the group of "supporters" who booed our players during the pre-match activities and at half time.
I don't boo myself, because I can't see the point, but totally respect the right of others if the performances are poor but to begin before the match has started is just stupid.
It's happened numerous times this season. I remember a group of our supporters at a couple of away games under DU earlier in the season waving a San Marino flag about and chanting about how shit the football was pre-kickoff. Basically hoping we lost.
Best supporters in the league though, remember

He’s lost the dressing room and most of the fan base get him gone now.
He hasn't lost "most of the fanbase" at all. Most level headed Latics fans I've spoken to think he should be given the summer

What the fuck do we do now?
Sack Mellon - justifiable after 1 win in 14. But it’s another hit to the budget and the new guy has a lot of same problems with the squad.
Keep him- and he’s alienated a lot of players here for next season, they just aren’t playing for him. He signs more older heads (which is what good looks to him) and I’ve no faith we are a few players short of complete turnaround.
What a mess. Honestly don’t know where we go from here.
If Mellon goes the only solution I see is going big and throwing money at someone from the division above with a proven track record like Stockport did with Challinor. I'd love a young, progressive manager but absolutely no way they'd get the time or patience to implement their ideas with the way our fanbase is at the moment. The other scenario is we're just ending up with a manager similar to Mellon.
I think fingers need to be pointed above Mellon too, as many on here has said. Recruitment has been consistently poor. We can't afford it to be again this summer

I'd be interested to see who is a better manager on paper than Mellon who's actually available (either unemployed or tempted to step up/down to us).
I currently wouldn't trust a head coach/manager who needs more than a year to establish a progressive style or philosophy, because there's no indication yet that they would be given the time to do it.
That's where I'm at too. Parkinson, Millington etc. The way the fanbase has been the last couple of years, there's no way they'll get the time or patience required. We essentially need someone who can come in and get results straight away. Answers on a postcard please

As I've mentioned promote Paul Murray and charismatic youth team coach Chuka Akuneto.
The youth team was poor before they took over, but since they've encouraged good passing attacking football with some of the best young prospects I've seen in years.

I wouldn't be against this idea tbh

You would be surprised, I would even bet my house that un invited CV’s are already been emailed to the club.
By desperate managers who are already out of work, I'd Imagine

Who would we want as a replacement then?
I don't want Parkinson. Don't think he'd get the Time or patience he'd need
Millington at Halifax maybe?
There's not a lot of choice out there. And I'm struggling to see why a lot of managers would want to come to Oldham

That’s fine.
What is your solution?
The football is poor, the results are terrible.
Are we special case, where we say- the number one thing is continuity - it must come above results. If we do that, the manager effectively gets a free pass.
What you want is understandable but totally unrealistic.
I was responding to the above when I saw this.
I get it mate. It’s awful. Can understand why you feel that way, we all need a break.
I can totally understand why people want Mellon gone tbh, and my early posts were a bit dickheadish, I think the last two years have really fatigued me. I've been going for 27 years and every season just blurs into one, it feels like every season no matter what happens its the same outcome. I went for a cake and a coffee with the missus whilst the game was on today and forgot it was even an early kickoff, I've been worn down. Like you say, i think I need a break. Apologies if I came across as a prick to any posters above, I'm frustrated as the rest of you

Guy- no one loves failing, no loves the fact we are shit. No one loves the fact we go on long winless runs. No one advocates that sacking the manager will definitely bring success.
The manager has told us numerous times that this summer will be difficult, he’s told us his hands are tied. That means a lot are here next year.
We can’t sack 20 players.
He’s won 1 game in 14.
What do you want? Blind loyalty just to say we’ve stuck with a manager???
Nope. Just voicing my frustration that we're going to be in the same place this summer that we've been in every summer for as long as I can remember. A new manager who won't last the season. A squad full of new players i can't even be arsed learning the names of. The same teams from places I've never heard of outclassing us. Surrounded by the same toxic dickheads at every game. I can't spend my money on it anymore. I'm done

You can't just keep a dud in charge on that basis though.
But getting rid of the manager and the whole squad just leaves us in the same situation we've been in every season for the last 15 years. I give the new manager and players 3 months before the Dark Fruits Army start chanting against them, and We'll start the cycle all over again. I'm done with it

Sick of every team looking way better than us.
Release as many as we can and sack MM as this has been a disgrace.
We made the mistake last season keeping Unsy, giving him a summer and hands on recruitment. It will end in tears with Mellon.
Lets get as clean a slate as we can and go from there.
Always works for us this. We've been doing the same thing for 30 years, but it will definitely work this time

I wouldn't say build a team around him, but if we start next season without him I can guarantee we'll have a worse striker upfront...
There's plenty of our support would stick with Fondop as a lone striker

So glad I've not gone. Can only imagine the toxicity and vitriol coming from the dark fruits army. Not completely undeserved but it just isn't fun anymore

Probably just the best supporters in the league getting on yet another managers back

Just yet another forgettable season supporting Oldham Athletic. We'll sack the manager, sign 20 new players, they won't gel, we'll sack the next manager after 6 months, finish 11th, and the cycle will continue again. Yippee

As for the comments on Norwood
For us he was always best as a lone striker but I am not sure he has the legs for that anymore and that is probably the biggest issue.
I assume he benefitted from wingers/full backs that could cross a ball and a midfield that wasn't 40 yards behind him at all times too?

Coaching them, trying to develop them maybe? Where's his accountability? A few token words seems to be the most of it.
Do you not think he's doing this? Is he just letting them have carte blanche in training and then slagging them off after the fact?
I reckon he's coached enough successful sides to know when players aren't up to it. Some of you seem to think he should be taking them out for ice cream after games

In any job, do you think being told your shit is the best way to motivation people?
Maybe the fans should be on Mellon's back more and it might motivate him to be a better manger?
Being told you aren't performing well enough should be good motivation, yes. Would you argue against that assessment?
What should he be doing, rubbing their heads and tell them they're doing a great job?
And let's not pretend Oldham fans need an excuse to get on a managers back

We sign players from teams who have won this division "well it didn't work when we signed players from Stockport "
