Bit like thinking a manager is going to come good just because he has done well elsewhere.

He might come good because he has past experience of doing it. I think we're better off giving him the summer to rebuild than sacking him and moving on to the next manager who will again be given barely any time to bed in before you're finding ways to write him off

But writing off his past achievements because he signed good players is just weird

SIX years ago - the league has changed hugely in that time.

He really has shown that he knows the National League hasn’t he?

    😮

Who are these managers that know the NL and would come to us then?

We'll appoint them, they won't get the results we want straight away and within four months we'll be having the same conversation. Ad nauseum

For all those saying give him time-

I will await your response if it’s piss poor after ten games next season. . .

We all want continuity - but it must come with something tangible. No manager can sustain poor results in the name of ‘give it time’

    Well, yeah...

  4. Think we've had 35 different managers since my first game in 1997. Luckily constantly chopping and changing managers has served us well during that time 👍

Mellon is an experienced manager and deserves a summer and a new season to get it right. If after that it's still not working, then it's time for a conversation

  5. He's also surely someone who will benefit from having a settled midfield partnership. He has a different partner every week at the moment, be it Sheron/Lundstram/McGahey/Hammond. That can't help when you're already coming in rusty and lacking gametime. That's not to defend his performances which have been poor

Stones, Garner, Conlon and Dallas (ok not worked out but clearly a solid signing on paper) aren't abysmal for mid-season recruitment by any stretch.

The problem with mid-season recruitment as well is that unless you're spending the big bucks on someone like McCallum who would probably hit the ground running, you're either getting inexperienced players (Hammond, Sachdev) or players who haven't played much football and are lacking a bit of edge (Conlon and Dallas). Sometimes they work out (Stones) but the fact so many had to be brought in shows how poor the recruitment was last summer in hindsight.

Just those two? I wouldn’t be arsed if any/all of them left.

To be fair, Norwood and Dallas are players… they’ve proved it. Not many of the rest have.

Grifters and chancers all over the pitch.

I'd keep Conlon, he's been a disappointment and wasn't good today but I think he's someone who'd benefit from a pre-season. I'd keep Hobson. Wouldn't be sad to see anyone else leave at all.

Aye, they need to have some professional pride. But we see it time and again with players, they just chuck it in when they don’t wanna play for the manager.

But as you say, rightly or wrongly there’s one man who is ultimately responsible.

I've defended MM a lot on here but the decline is concerning. But yet again we've got a squad of players who turn up when they want to and hide whenever the going gets tough. Feels like Groundhog Day every bloody season. I wouldn't be sad if none of these players were here next season

I think I've spotted why we are underperforming.

After going down to 10 men the players unleashed the shackles and played the they wanted, not Mellon and Brabin's.

Gardner and Dallas were prime examples.

This indicated to me the players don't like being pressured to play a style of football they dislike.

Mellon and Brabin must give the players freedom to express themselves or IMO things will get worse

Sounds like players who only started playing once the game was lost to me

  10. I'm happy to give him the summer, the position we're in is massively disappointing but he's working with a bunch of cowards who just aren't up to it at all. I think sacking him and starting over yet again is a backward step, give him the summer to bring his own players in then it's absolutely on him

Me. I know, let's start a shopping list thread, to stick in players who we think offers improvement and could be realistic targets.

OWTB: Fuck it. Let's moan about Norwood / how shit we've been for 4+ pages.

Never change, forum. Never change. 😂

One of the issues we've had is the signings made post-January have all been good on paper, but they're all players either coming off the back of an injury or a lack of gametime who we've needed to hit the ground running. I think there's enough quality in the squad to build upon with a full summer behind them, but I think it's evident we badly need some players with composure who are capable of playing through/breaking down teams. We also don't really have any players capable of beating a man.

    I would keep:

    Hudson

    Hobson

    Sutton

    Raglan

    Kitching

    Conlon

    Sheron

    Norwood

    Dallas (if perm available)

    Hammond

    Green

But on the proviso that a few of them are no more than squad players.

We would probably need two ball playing midfielders in the Matt Palmer mould, two new FBs, two wingers and a centre half. Simple really 🤥
