Yeah, perhaps Fulham does colour things a bit- but still a great win and he did fine in the league with what he had. Especially in his first job.

With what we had? We had Iversen, Surridge, Lang, Lyden, Clarke, Edmundson, Hamer etc. It was a decent squad that should have been in and around the play offs and i think we might have been had we stuck with Bunn

So far this season, these players have been abysmal. Individually and certainly collectively as a ‘team’. But the 11 that started today (apart from Okabue) have played many, many games at this level and higher. And we probably have another 11 players in the squad that also boast good experience of NL, L2 & L1 football.

We’re not dealing with Mo’s lower league French boys with zero scouting or knowledge of how they’ll cope at this level.

We have a squad full of players that should be capable of holding their own in this league.

I think the issues runs deeper than the players in the squad. I thought it was Al & Mo, so now it’s frustrating to try and understand why things are so bad on the pitch.

Mo's boys walk into this team - Doyle, Byrne, McAlney, Rowe, Dearnley, Missilou, Mouche, Nepmocheno even Branger and Fage. But results don't matter, people said they were happy to plummet through the leagues and start at the bottom as long as they got rid of AL. Maybe we are just reaping what we sowed

  3. Who sanctioned this 3 year contract on an unproven manager? Seems ridiculous. I keep hearing people tell me we've got a great backroom staff and board but I can't see it. None of the coaching staff have done it at first team level and certainly not at this level and the only board member with any football experience is Big Joe and thats a long time ago and I think he's more of a figure head than anything. It's worrying.

Too many fans had turned against Shez, I know, but has Unsworth won those same fans over? One fan said to me, "It's a results business, stop living on sentiment; any half-decent manager would get a better tune out of our squad than Sheridan" in explaining why he had to go. Well, looking at Shez's last 5 games and Unsworth's first 5 :-

    Shez - won 2, drawn 1, lost 2        (7 points)

    Unsy - won 0, drawn 3, lost 2       (3 points)

That's effectively giving Unsworth a "free ride" and one point today by pretending it's a league game. We should be hammering Chester; we didn't and that (already) has to be a worry.

So, who is the better manager then in this results-driven business?

I know it's still relatively early days but it won't be much longer before the fans "turn" and we are back to square one calling for the manager's head. We cannot continue such madness. I often ponder if, when we decided to let Shez go, we may have been better calling upon someone like Peter Clarke. I just can't imagine a "Peter Clarke" team rolling over and having their belly tickled like this one does.

I think, one day, Peter Clarke will make a very good manager. He really is a natural born leader - might it have been a great opportunity for him to have "cut his teeth" with us at this level?

At present, most of our eggs seem to be being placed in the ex-Everton basket. Let's hope and pray that the basket doesn't turn into a case anytime soon!

Think Selim had a better record after 5 games and that's saying something. Think he was Won 1 Drew 3 Lost 1

We seem to have a placed a great deal of faith in this management team, hopefully they come good but people calling for patience can't point me to any evidence why it is such a great management team we've assembled. There is literally no evidence as they have no experience in First team management why it will definitely work. If things haven't improved by January and we are staring relegation in the face, do we just stick blindly with what we've got or does the club act?

Is Mo staying as director of football? Or any other role for that matter?

No idea. I've heard Mo has hardly been involved all last season, I certainly know Shez will be responsible for all recruitment and has already spoken how to use the budget better in terms of a few players on bigger money to build the team around and then the rest on less money and utilise the youth to pack the squad out. I'd be happy if he uses the majority of the budget on a decent CH, CM and CF.

Well if they do they haven't been making a very good fist of showing it. And are they commited to providing such a facility as they are having to develop X amount of new dwellings by whenever. New houses bring economic development to an area as well, 365 days a year and attract new business as well.

That's a fair point but i'm the eternal optimist!

problem being that if they put a CPO on it, they can use it for whatever they have identified as priorities for the Borough. Would that be a sports complex or housing?

Understand what you are saying but surely the Council can see the importance for the local economy of having a thriving football/rugby team as well as providing sporting facilities for the community as a whole.

However, they have access to grants, low interest loans.

There us a massive levelling up agenda, stuff around Northern powerhouse too as well as other stuff. Bury managed to get I think 1million to buy ground back via DCMS....we just need a funding guru to maximise it all really.

Little known fact, as there is a ACV on the stadium still, council can CPO it if there was a dire enough situation.

That's interesting that the council can CPO it, problem is the valuation, aren't we talking treble what Gigg Lane went for?

I really struggle with how this could have happened, if it did.  Anybody buying any property will expect their solicitors to look at covenants, charges, other restrictions etc.  That's n different if you are buying a flat, a house, a business premises, whatever.  it beggars belief that a multi-million pound transaction can have gone through without the existence of such a restriction coming to the attention of the buyer and their agents and it either being dealt with or it preventing the deal going ahead.

Agreed, unless both parties were aware of it and completely ignored it???

Yep exactly - think we have between us answered the question of whittles left foot who asked why it's a priority to buy the ground!

I see people talking about finding a new ground, but how would this actually pan out in terms of attendances, club identity, etc etc. Obviously lots of other clubs have done it but for me buying back BP is the only option and moving elsewhere should be an absolute last resort.

Is it correct that the council contributed to the north stand, but as the club owed Blitz he's now taken over ownership of it? Unbelievable that the council would knowingly allow that to happen...

    Did the council even know?

I get your point but surely the difference there, and the point he's making, is that at least this is "our" rented ground and not sharing with another club. Would be a lot more dire if it was a team of our shit players with our badge on but playing at spotland every other week...

Agreed, however from a financial perspective and sustainability and dare I say the opportunity to have a little success will always be extremely limited if we can't generate income except for 23 days a year. Imagine having a business with expenses 365 days a year but only having 23 days a year to bring income in? It would be ok if we were renting the ground from say the council but operated the whole thing 7 days a week allowing the club generate other income streams.
