I’ve slept on it and feel even more annoyed today!

This squad is garbage, it is full of exactly the wrong type of modern young player…think they’re good because they have a pro contract at a “big” club and are not willing to put in the work required to improve, and god forbid anyone criticises the poor little snowflakes

None of them are leaders on the pitch and I genuinely don’t think any of them really care, it’s just a job, they get paid in full regardless of their performance and they assume the manager will get fired way before they do.

If any of them played a pro sport that relied on individual performance and paid out based on achievement (Golf, Tennis etc) this lot would feckin starve.

This season is another write off and Mellon has a huge job on his hands.

Whilst I agree with you that Mellon has a big job long term, the season is far from a write off. We are 5pts off the play-offs and I stand by my opinion that on the whole the league is crap. We've played 7 of the top 8 sides and not one of them has made me think we can't compete with these. It won't take a great deal of improvement to get in the top 7. If we can embark on another 8 game unbeaten run with 4 wins we should be right in it come Christmas. Chesterfield have sailed off and will most likely hit 100 pts but i'd say 4th - 7th is well within range for about 12 teams including us.

  2. Complete overreaction from our fanbase as per usual. It's the same when we win a few games, listening to the fans on social media and then the podcast on Monday you'd think we had gone 20pts clear at the top after beating Rochdale. I get we were 8 unbeaten and that's great but we hadn't made that much headway on the play-offs  (think we were 6pts off the top 7 when Unsworth was sacked and now we are 5pts) and now after a really poor performance and result you'd think we were staring relegation in the face. The truth is always somewhere in the middle, I'm sure Mellon will put things right and for once i'm pretty zen myself about all this. I've every confidence in the coaching staff putting things right and recruiting the players needed providing Frank can back him like he did Unsworth and we will get the top 7 come the end of the season. Whether we will be good enough to actually go up is very debatable but the play-offs can be like a lottery and we might just do it. A side note to that is I don't think Mellon would have taken the job if he hadn't had assurances that there was a budget set aside to bring in new players.

  3. Much of this could have been avoided if the club had given season ticket holders priority and also restricted it to 1 ticket per person. Yes, we have more season ticket holders than tickets allocated and demand outweighs supply but not all season ticket holders can or want to attend. Day trippers intent on causing trouble wouldn't have gone to great lengths to get a ticket but as they could get them with no restrictions they have no doubt decided to go. I think it could be a nightmare on Saturday let's hope Rochdale are geared up for it and we don't have the fiasco of a few years ago when loads of us were still outside the ground on the Tuesday night 25 mins after kick off.

UEFA considered Welsh players (and Scottish) to be overseas for English clubs for a period.

Quite rightly too, especially as it stopped United winning.

Are you even a proper Oldham fan if you can compliment the 1994 Man United team? Very sus, as the kids say.

Don't get me wrong, i hated them! In fact it gives me great pleasure that we had that team of theirs by the b***ocks. It was undoubtedly a great side and the fact we were narrowly beaten 3-2 at Old Trafford and were then within a minute of beating them at Wembley 6 days later was a fantastic achievement. You can appreciate good sides whilst not liking them you know.

  5. From the Irish perspective, some[according to whom?] consider "The British Isles" as a political term rather than a geographical name for the archipelago because of the Tudor conquest of Ireland, the subsequent Cromwellian activities in Ireland, the Williamite accession in Britain and the Williamite War in Ireland—all of which resulted in severe impact on the Irish people, landowners and native aristocracy. From that perspective, the term "British Isles" is not a neutral geographical term but an unavoidably political one.[citation needed] Use of the name "British Isles" is often rejected in the Republic of Ireland, because some claim its use implies a primacy of British identity over all the islands outside the United Kingdom, including the Irish state and the Crown dependencies of the Isle of Man and Channel Islands, that was historically dominating and is currently inaccurate, since Ireland is neither Britain nor British.[

If you want to include Ireland then it should be referred to as IONA (Islands of the North Atlantic)

  6. Irish players were considered overseas players when there was a restriction in European competitions. One of the reasons the United team from the mid 90s didn't win the Champions league imo, because i felt the 94 team was better than the treble winning side but the likes of Irwin and Keane were considered as overseas so they never were able to get their full strength side out. Anyway, scrap my suggestion of Denis!

Christian Calusso was born 1977 and spent 4 months on loan at Latics in 2002. 13 games and 2 goals one of which was last minute at Bury.

We did have another Argentinian in 1993 I remember seeing him play at Liverpool. Can't remember his name.

We had  Alejandro Strelau who was Argentinian and arrived at a similar time to Calusso but I don't think he ever played. Think he was a CB and may have played a few trial games but think he was here to help Calusso tbh. Remember the goal at Gigg Lane, we were shite that night but he hit a volley threw a crowd of players and it went through the keepers legs to get us a point. I was right behind it! Don't remember one from 1993 and i think i would as my memory of games from about 83-99 is pretty good but then it all goes a bit foggy.

  8. Very impressed with the 2 interviews with the new gaffer. Yes, we've all seen the initial interviews with new managers but to me, this seems very different. It wasn't the usual sound bites that all managers roll out, this was a genuine guy who has learnt his trade and is still looking to learn and improve. I've always felt football management is way more than just about football, yes you need decent coaches on board but the actual manager needs to manage all the different personalities within his squad, motivate them, bring all the different departments within a football club, including fans, together in order to succeed. In many ways, you don't really need that much football experience if you have the right coaches around you. It's why people like Mourinho and Wenger were so successful. The greatest of them all, Ferguson, would have excelled in any industry in a management position because he led by example and was the greatest man manager i've ever seen. It is all about winning and having that winning mentality, let's hope Mellon can instil it into this squad. I'm sure given the same amount of time and backing Unsworth got he will assemble a squad of winners and ultimately get us back in the EFL and potentially further up the pyramid than League 2. I was a bit meh initially about his appointment but in all honesty I didn't know that much about him, i'm now genuinely excited about this guy and what he can bring to the club.

I'm sure he will he's not naive. He'll be aware of some of the issues and will realise he needs to learn alot more about the squad and players before he can make proper judgements on them.

Hes got alot to live upto the last 2 managers never lost a game 🙃

Whisper it quietly we are unbeaten in 7.

Not many managers go into a new job with the team unbeaten in 7!!
