    Me too.

It's puzzling why Atherton wasn't brought into the squad, when available, to fill Green's boots unless Mellon was trying to prove a point ( a bit like Shez did naming 3 subs a couple of years ago !).

I'm thinking they might have a deal to a big club lined up for Atherton and don't want him injured. Or perhaps his agent has?

Just a hunch based on no information.

  2. A cameo from the Joe Royle stand yesterday during the second half.

Harrison McGahey miscontrolled a ball that went for a throw. A middle aged man a few rows in front sitting with what appeared to be a family group got from his seat and abused McGahey for around 10 seconds, concluding with ' Fuck off out of our club.'

There was pretty much an embarrassed silence until Mike Fondop, who was nearby, came across and gestured directly for the man to calm down.

This brought a muted round of applause.

It's good to be reminded of how optimistic so many of us were at the start of this season...

Optimism that was severely deflated after the first game and totally wrecked by match nine. There was then a short uplift during the Redfearn/Thompson tenure rising back to previous heights after the victory at Rochdale, only to come back down to earth the very next game... a period of renewed optimism was completely wiped out by our March madness.

We are going to finish 9th or 10th after a previous season finish of 12th.

Excited for this poll next August...

The win at Rochdale very much epitomised the strengths and weaknesses of the side.

Once the goals dried up, we were left with only the weaknesses.

  4. It gets worse for Halifax's pitch.

Halifax Panthers play on it up to June 1st and then resume on June 30th. That is nowhere near enough time to renovate a pitch, let alone one that is in crisis.

Our pitch, which is in good order, sees the rugby vacate it between May 5th and June 26th. Not great for them short term, but a much more sensible schedule for the long term health of the turf.

This can’t be put on OAFC.

Halifax however… I have zero knowledge on pitch recovery times, but even an idiot can see this game was never being played at Halifax. Two days ago…

Absolutely not, but the club would be advised to show some solidarity with its supporters.

All clubs rely on the loyalty of supporters and most don't see them as customers who may not return.

  6. The club should be representing their supporters publicly on this.

They have getting towards 2000 people who need to make arrangements for tomorrow night and are completely in the dark.

Say it's at Harrogate. That's at least an hour each way further. There will be many who can't do that for a variety of reasons.

It may be happening in private, but it would be very good policy to represent the supporters in public pretty quickly.

I think the realistic objective (sadly) of the youth set up is to flog players wherever possible before they get anywhere near the first team and hope that one of them generates a sell on fee.

I suspect Atherton is being mothballed in order to boost the budget in summer.

That’s probably not far from the truth. I’m not sure it would be as end of days as it’s being made out here. The Rothwell’s are hardened business people and the projects they’ve undertaken in terms of redevelopments don’t marry up with a rhetoric of “if it doesn’t happen next season, we’re all buggered”. They want to leave a legacy behind, for the town to enjoy.

if it doesn’t happen next season it’s likely a readjustment of the way the football team is funded happens and we work under a smaller budget with less marquee type signings. Which altogether might not be the worst thing.

Get back to playing and behaving like underdogs. Always suited Oldham teams and our mentality.

I'm still saying it.  It is a joke thread now and it was even more of a joke thread when you started it in my opinion.

It's still not worth sacking him at this point and I don't see when it will in the near future.  Although he needs to show that he can do something different in the next four games to alleviate some pressure on him and he needs to be ruthless with this squad in the summer.

Don't think he'll be shy of getting rid of at least a dozen. More if he can.

Robinson- ‘the quality of Oldham’s players for this division is unbelievable.

The players are very capable, the big question is- why aren’t they playing to their maximum . . ?

I think it's because imbalance of the squad.

No wide players who can cross a ball, no players with pace, no right back.
