  1. Although I agree on the vicious circle, I think your slightly harsh on saying it's people that don't put money front that are to blame for the clubs situation. Not everyone's fortunate enough to be able to afford that sort of cash.

It's not "fortune" it's budgeting and forward planning.

The Season before my first ever ST I cut back on away games and missed the odd home match too, putting the money saved to one side.

This, coupled with other savings (eg one pint a week less = £100 per year approx) enabled me to fund that all important first ST.

From then on I set up a monthly standing order for a few quid to enable me to keep buying STs year on year without feeling the pinch. It;s like paying my Gas or Water bill now - just part of my monthly outgoings.

For the record, I'm not interested in any "compensation" either. I just want the people of Oldham to show up and prove that the town desrves a League club and to demonstrate to any potential investors that we are worth it.

  2. Have just about recovered from this last weekend.

It is by far the most freindly, laid back "large scale" Metal festival in the UK, far better than Download IMO.

As it is only in its 3rd year there are still improvements to be made, but it is not far off being perfect.

Having Bill Bailey as the "buffer" between Motorhead and Slipknot was genius, "Still not back to normal after Knebworth gig. - have image of crowd singing along with Scarboro Fair Rammstein style."

Local police also praised festival goers as they declared "this festival was the safest in the country so far this year in relation to crime".

  3. Sometimes, on non-match days when taking my late Mum to the Hospital, I had to drop her off at the waiting room, and then drive as far as your road, or even to the bottom of Furterwood Road, to find somewhere to park, before walking back to the waiting room.

No doubt the new Boundary Park cul-de-sac will be 'residents only' parking, even on non-match days.

The council actually tried introducing a permit parking scheme last year, during the close season if memory serves.

Only one permit per household, to be displayed all the time and not just on match days, at a cost of £200+ a year.

We were asked to vote on this, and I assume the majority rejected the proposal (I did) as I have heard nothing since.

  4. ...but it appears building work has resumed at the back of the Chaddy after laying dormant for several months.

There were a half dozen or so bods walking around the site last Friday morning, fluo vests, hard hats, clip boards etc...

Have just got home from work and there is a few guys there now, as well as a "digger" of some sort (I'm not a builder, obv.) and what looks like fresh supples of bricks etc..

Could mean nothing of course, but thought I would share with the class.

  5. Would it be fair to say that paying employees (players) so much when you take in so little is unwise ? I presume this is the case and no doubt you can set me straight if I am wrong...

Isn't this the main source of the problem for the majority of clubs ? Players wages and the lack of joined up will between clubs to stop paying them so much when the crowds aren't there to support such high payments ?

The single biggest problem in modern football, and one which cannot be sustained for much longer.

Either clubs will go to the wall with increasing indifference from the wider football community, or attitudes and practices have to change, and change quickly.

Football needs to wake up and smell the dubbin before it is too late.
