  1. No width at all, Taylor was missing again and Whitaker came central far too often.

Niether player contributed enough defensively, which led to Eardley and Lomax being permanently on the back foot.

Neal dealt with the situation well, Kelvin did not.

Byfield held the ball up well, and whilst he did not win every ball lumped up towards him he constantly put defenders under pressue by closing them down quickly.

Poor overall support from midfield left the front two isolated with limited options.

Hughes seemed elsewhere today, distinct contrast to Davies who looked fully pumped up and eager to impress when he came on. Byfield was unlucky to be subbed.

    Great strike by Allott.

Fleming played his part again, and were it not for he, Gregan and Hazell we would have left Yorkshire with nothing.

Did anyone hear about a terrorist threat? Seemed a hell of a lot of Police about.

    Double time lads?

  2. Hang on, if it's been made public that the club want to keep him, how come astottie's telling us that TTA have told him he wont be getting an extension cos he's a bad influence on the younger players?

Also, didn't Hughes allegedly say (can't remember where I saw it posted/heard it) that he wouldn't ask to go, cos the club had been good to him since his release from prison?

The club, through Barry Owen on these forums, have stated that they want to keep hold of Hughes.

Through a third party "a-bloke-I-know-who-seems-to-know-one-or-two-of-the-powers-that-be-and-has-been-known-to-be-right-occasionally" has sad he will not be offered a new deal.

Rightly or wrongly, I have a tendancy to believe the former over the later.

The fact you cannot remember where you heard an alleged Hughes quote speaks volumes.

If he wanted to and intended to stay here, this speculation could be nipped in the bud with a 5 minute press conference.

  3. The big question here is, are TTA prepared to gamble?

Take 3 / 400K now and, IMO, wave goodbye to the distinct possibility of Championship football next year.

Or keep hold of Hughes for the rest of the season, risking that transfer fee on the hope Hughes contributions would be the difference between going up or staying down.

It has been made public that the club would like to keep him, what we do not know is wether Hughes himself wants to stay.

If he wants to go, there is no option but to sell.

  4. From memory I'm pretty sure they played...

    Imperium

    Beautiful Mourning

    Aesthetics of Hate

    Old

    Hallowed be thy Name

    Halo

    Davidian

...these are probably in the wrong order.

There were also three guys dressed up as Santa in the seated section. Rob heckled the security to let them through so he could see them in the pit. All three ended up onstage having a drink before performing the worst stage dives I've ever seen!

  5. I stopped trying to keep up with the classification of bands years back, when Emo was short "emotional hardcore", so some of these might not count...

I really loved Satyricons' Now Diabolical album, but haven't heard the new one yet, Age of Nero. Is it any good?

Also like Black Dahlia Murder, Job for a Cowboy, Pig Destroyer and you can't beat a bit of Napalm Death.

Don't like the stuff that uses lots of keyboards etc (unless it's full on Ministry / KMFDM / Front 242 etc).

Saw Children of Bodom live for the first time this week (supporting Slipknot / Machine Head - and Jesus did I feel old at that gig!) and they were far better live than recorded.

Can you recommend anything a bit more recent I should check out?

  6. It's the same as they do to away fans the other side of a moat and with security all round them (itself there because they have been acting up to security to try and look hard). Stupid :censored:house kids looking for an easy target to show what tough guys they are. Full marks to them for singing songs at one lad when they are in a group of 20+. Pricks, and it won't be before time if the club starts banning them. I hate to say it, but it's true. When we have a group of pre-pubescent boys who think it's OK for them to run up the stairs shouting at a policeman who is taking someone out, there is something broken. I might be a touch controversial here but I think a wrong precedent was set last year in the Chaddy when the failure to deal firmly with the bullying tactics and false statements to police of a certain musician and his father lead to a whole family ultimately stopping following the club in person. We need young fans, but we don't want every young person in Oldham in the ground. Sadly, because some of them are total arseholes.

    true dat.

  7. Because it`s the same old and not even constructive.

This may help on the constructive front...

The drum can add to an already good atmosphere, the Sheridans blue and white army / we are top of the league chants from earlier this season for example.

However I do not think it will ever create an atmosphere.

Last night was an off night for the lad, and I was in complete agreement with the bloke three rows behind me when he roared "Shut the :censored: up with that!".
