  1. Cant belive so many are writting off the play offs

There is sooo much football still to play! I do belive we need signings if we are to challenge this year though....

Not sure many a re totally 'writing them off' as such, I think a lot though are realistically thinking that they are getting further and further away, and we need to improve our results (or rather turn our home draws into wins) pretty bloody sharpish.

  2. Of course we can do it hence the mention of the maths, however we have to start to win and often whilst a good number of sides above must lose often. No good us winning 3 on the trot whilst they win 3 or 2 at the same time. The top six sides have lately been cementing their position whilst Latics due to two draws have moved further adrift.

That is bang on the money Lags.

For me, there is always a game after which I think "that's it, the play offs are gone". Usually happens somewhere from mid to end of March.

However, against Brighton last week, when the equaliser went in, I could help but think something very similar. It was more along the lines of us needing to turn our home form around, but for me that needs to happen in our next home league game. Forget Saturday, the cup is a one off (though the confidence of any win at home would be very welcome just now).

I just thought Brighton was a massive opportunity missed. I really believed that we'd get back on track at BP in that game, much the same as the Blackpool game at home last season which we ended up losing one nil.

  3. Do we still use horses to plough a field.... Move it FFS. The chaddy is gash and only the people who sit their think its any good. BP must be the only ground where we give the best stand to away fans.

I love how people who don't even seem to sit in the Chaddy (and I'm only pressuming you are one of those by the way you've worded your post, Eddie) are the ones championing the Chaddy to be moved to the RRE.

I bet half of these buggers sit in silence in the Main Stand wanting everybody else to provise the atmosphere!

Rick is right. Open the small section of the RRE to home fans who wish to go in their and make as much noise as they like. I have no problem with that. However, I wont be joining them.

  4. Astounding decision this one.

The Tangerine kit has proved very successful and has (whether you like it or not) brought the fans together with my favourite Latics song. My boy is 7 years old now, but when he was very young, I used to bounce him on my knee and sing "We play in Blue and Tangerine".

You fat scouser! You fat scouser!

  5. Met one of his mates in November. Apparently he only had the option of Motherwell as no Championship clubs got to the point of having a bid accepted. He doesn't think his injuries will hold up into his 30's and wants all the cash he can get while he is playing. Don't blame him one bit.

And that, in a nutshell, is what's wrong with football these days.

He was only EVER interested in lining his pockets. Got a big fat signing-on fee, which McGhee more or less admitted during an interview.

The way I understand it, the club turned down the Plymouth ofer in Jan on the strength of Porter and his agent saying that he would sing a new contract in the summer. Then he changed his wage demands so TTA were resigned to losing him.

I think it's a pisstake that the fee for him joining us from Bury was set at £150k, yet he was allowed to walk away for free at the end of his contract without a 2nd thought for us.

Incidentally, how many of us on here (and I know there were a good few) fully anticipated his move to Scotland would be followed by another move in the window or in trhe summer. What a snake.

  6. Is this the same guy with a chip that praised Hughes in a recent article ?? Just wondering like.....

    Yeah, absolutely the same guy.

Not that I understand what that has to do with anything. I mean, what would you expect him to say when asked? "Nah, he's a murdering ginger scumbag who none of the lads like, and he's nabbed my thunder to boot"?

    Get real.

The pair of them are NOT playing like a partnership. I can understand him wanting to score to end his barren period, course I can, but he needs to swallow his pride, stop going for the 'Hollywood' finish and play for the good of the team.

  7. One incident with Davies summed him up perfectly today. In the first half, he was coming in from his "more comfortable on the left coming into the box" side of the pitch. Hughes was in space near the penalty spot and Davies was being closed down. Rather than pass it to Hughes - and CD was in a position to do so - he greedily kept the ball and the shot was blocked & cleared.

For me, Davies is too moody a player and wants all the glory for himself and as soon as Hughes scores he spits his dummy out and sulks throughout the match. Its as if its 10 men plus Davies just to support the Craig Davies show.

    Absolutely agree 100%.

Until Davies removes the chip off his shoulder and actually passes the ball to Hughes (when he's unmarked and screaming for the ball), he's not gonna get anywhere.

His nose has been well out of joint ever since Hughes started bagging, cos he's not the one receiving the plaudits.

I think the lad has ability in abundance and COULD be a very very useful/important player for us - the harsh reality is however, that if he was more of a team player we'd not be having these discussions about him.

At the Boundary Blues party the kids get a Q&A session with the players and one youngester (probably no older than about 10) actually asked Davies 'whether he was ever going to pass the ball to Hughes'.

    Says it all really.

  8. ..................but as Exile says nowt wrong in selling a player as long as we move forward with the related signings.

That's the point I was trying to make earlier Tony. We need another striker, an other winger and another midfielder. If we were to let Eardley go for £750k or whatever you can add a new RB to that list. OK, Hazell will do a solid job at RB but with Gregan long term crocked and Stam not having the best of injury records, it leaves us short of cover to partner Trotters.

I doubt all of the £750k is gonna be made available for signings, and even if it was, it wouldn't go all that far if we need to buy/replace 4 players.

I'm not sure how we move forward on that basis. If we HAVE to sell Eardley, then lets make sure we get what he's worth compared to the rest of the current market.

  9. I nearly fell off my chair when I read that Latics are having YET ANOTHER bloomin kit. What are we on now - 15 in 4 years? I bet it isn't far off with 'keepers jerseys.

The club needs to generate revenue streams - I totally appreciate that and support them doing that... but I think this pathetic excuse of having a third kit is unfair on the fans. If we were playing in Europe I can understand the need to have kits that meet the fussy regulations UEFA impose... but we don't. The shirt is un-called for. (That is football wide and not Latics specific)

What also gets my goat is these shirts are priced in line with what you would pay for a Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, or Liverpool shirt that are made by multi-national companies. Whilst I appreciate that your average guy on the terrace doesn't need "Clima Cool" or the latest body cooling technology, the Carlotti shirts are hardly of a similar quality are they. It's like Primark charging Kendals prices.

Neddless to say I'm not happy about it. Not that makes one jot of a difference

    Tantrum over.

Not much we can do about it if the club are contracted to having a new away shirt per season and a new home shirt every 2 seasons. In fact, taking it to the extremes, the club has to generate as much income as possible to have a hope of keeping up with the big boys - who's fault is that?

The other way of looking at it Daz, is if you don't agree/like it/whatever, then don't buy one.

  10. Especially where you are talking about higher division clubs I think it’s ridiculous to blame players who leave. Frankly I would lack a little respect for a player who had the talent to play at a higher level but who was content to drift along with his first club because he felt at home there. It’s all well and good wanting to play at a higher division with said club, but there’s no saying that it might not take 2, 5, 13 years to get promoted, or your side might even get relegated. Let’s not forget that Championship and Premiership sides also sell their better players to teams higher up and better off than them.

I don't think anybody is saying that players should strive to get to a higher level, be it with this club or any other Andy, the point for me is that as a club, we should be doing everything we can to try to retain our best players (it's the ONLY realistic way we'll get up), and when we do have to sell we should be holding out for a good price.

  11. [

Latics have never had an identity in terms of a kit - which is a shame. The red/blue hoops was awful, but tried to reflect an old blue and white hooped shirt from long ago. If at that stage they had gone for blue and white hoops and stuck with it it might have been better.

Sorry Scapegoat, simply not true. From about 1907 throught to 1967 we had distinctive blue & white "thirds" most of the time. There was an exception in the immediate post war period when, for a couple of seasons, we played in Red & white hoops (not blue & white). Kit was hard to come by, clothing ration coupons still required, and we borrowed shirts from Oldham Rugby. And in 1959/60 it was basically a blue shirt with white sleeves and white v-neck.

Ken Bates shifted to tangerine and blue ( a look that was at the time criticised as looking like "Mexican generals") and when we came back to blue and white it was a non-distinctive design initially.

That's a VERY good point Pete. Our home kit should revert to being like the 1907-66 ish blue and white 'thirds' type of affair (making sure it's not an absolute abortion like the recent effort with the white back was) and stick with it! The 2nd and 3rd kits should have a tangerine theme - build the brand and it's recognisibility?! Stick with tangerine & blue for 3rd kit if we have to have another one, and have a 2nd kit which is, say, white with tangerine trim (or tangerine and blue trim) like the one proposed last season.

  12. I think Eardley will clearly be one of the targets.

To be honest if we get an offer around the 750K mark with sell on clauses, I'd sell and use the money to acquire the necessary creative midfield player, striker and full back we need.

Not being funny, but in the current climate (1.5m for Gunter etc) and with Eardley being on a longish term deal, I don't see why we should be selling ourselves short by letting him go for around half that amount. Added to that that we'll have already made a few quid of the shortfall up already this season with the win at Everton and associated gate receipt, I don't think we should have our hand forced. TTA have already said there is money available to Shez, lets try and add to the squad, not lose players.

  13. But we have Eardley and Taylor under long term deals. Last year TTA were under the impression Porter was going to sign a new contract......seeing how the guy said himself that he would. Eardley signed a new deal before the new year and Taylor last season.

That is certainly one thing we have in our favour BBP.

  14. If anybody thinks that a reduction to £15 will significantly increase numbers at BP, then you are either sadly deluded or you are sniffing glue.

The public of Oldham have already shown on numerous occasions that unless it's free/virtually free, they'd rather swan round The Spindles in their MANURE/CIDDEE or whatever tops than come and support their local club!

  15. I'm pretty sick of yet more random colours that have nothing to do with us. If No 1 is owt like the yellow one from a few years back, no chance, it was vile. The black one is too random. The third one looks like a City shirt so I would rather go naked. The fourth is the only one that actually looks OK, and it does have a large blue element to it. It's not a bit too Burnley is it?

Spot on Andy. The light blue (POWDER BLUE FFS?) is easilty the nicest shirt but it just screams CIDDEE, and frankly I'd rather be thrown into a pound of rabid rottweilers with pedigree chum smeared on my nads than be mistaken for one of them tossbags!

If we HAVE to change then the black isn't too bad, and the Barca effort will at least please Johnny Punkster.

The yellow is :censored: horrible too!

EDIT: I also think we need to be careful with these things as I already know one cidddeeee fan who thinks it will be hilarious to put a link on their web forum to sabotage the vote. TOSSEUR.

  16. I've gone for Hazell but it was a very tough chocie between him and JP.

Isn't it great though that between us we can't pick a standout MOM from the whole squad as the collective performance was outstanding.

  17. Will Haining

    Paul Murray

    Alex Bruce...

    Off top of me head.

How come you've not been ranting on the Bertrand thread Dan?

Haining - had been a decent servant to the club, but had become stale. The club offered him terms but reduced from what I understand. They hardly bust a gut to keep him did they?

Murray - saw out his contract and was always likely to take that move abroad to the top league in a foreign country. Plenty gave him stick for the fact that he only really upped his game when he was putting himself in the shop window though.

Alex Bruce - was recalled by Daddy and was promptly sent out on loan to Sheff Wed. Not really his choice was it, and even then I remember plenty of people were none too happy with Bruce Snr at the time.

Just seen and replied to the Berty thread, as you'll no doubt have seen.

  18. I perhaps may have been best pointing out that was extreme sarcasm given the treatment people were dishing to Kilkenny after they found out. It's meant to show the hypocrasy that some Latics fans are suffering with considering Berty's done just about the same thing as Kilkenny.

Jamie, how the :censored: is what Berty's done the same thing as Kilkenny?

Bertrand is still a Chelsea player and one who they are trying to develop by sending him on loan to a club in a higher division than us. At the end of his loan with Norwich it's highly likely he'll go bck to Chelsea to continue his education and maybe try and break into the first team.

Kilkenny is not wanted at Brum and has gone to Leeds on loan until a perm deal can be sorted.

Talk about twisting facts to suit you argument?!
