  1. As for the comments on Norwood For us he was always best as a lone striker but I am not sure he has the legs for that anymore and that is probably the biggest issue.
  2. Its a fair point, thinking back to when Brabin was here though the majority were National League or players released so he does have an eye for a player. As you rightly say there is some talent in the National League. Despite the rivalry I do hope you get promotion next season, would much rather be playing you in league games. On an aside with regards to transfers I was not shocked at all to see Tollitt leave soon after Micky joining, the two of them just do not get on. I wouldn't be shocked if Paul Lewis is one who leaves us for you, Micky has signed him a number of times and he is out of contract with us. I think you will sign a player 35+ as well, he signed Perkins, Clarke etc when here, he likes an experienced leader in the side
  3. Tranmere fan here, When Micky was appointed I said he would get you promotion, he obviously has had a poor start but I still fully believe that if you stick with him he will get you up next season. The thing with Micky is he takes no prisoners, he demands the right attitude and that people are at a very minimum putting everything to do with the team above anything else. At Tranmere this led to a period where Andy Cook for us was dropped despite him being arguably our best player because he wasn't putting in the stats on the pitch I don't know much about your squad but he likes experience, strikers who will press and more importantly those will not back out of tackles and will not stop running for 90 mins I can see you bringing in a few of our out of contract players if he does stay and wouldn't be shocked if Yarney is one of them, he has done well for us when called upon but he will never get ahead of Tunrbull and Davies in our side. The other thing I would add is that Brabin is extremely good at recruiting at this level, it was his biggest strength for us. I really do believe that with a full summer they will get you where you want to be
  4. I said when Micky joined you that he is hard line on things like this, that will be why Norwood gave a look rather than anything else, he knows. I would be shocked if Reid plays for you again tbh as Micky will want to make an example as it seems you have a few who need a rocket in the squad He will turn you around but it seems the issues run deeper at Oldham than when he was with us at Tranmere so it may take him a bit longer Wouldn't be shocked if he doesnt come in for a few of our fringe players tbh as he knows what he can get out of them
  5. Just to say on Brabin as well That is an absolute masterstroke from Micky, we look like we are heading back down into the Non League, you have the dream team to get you out of it Brabin had a really tough job rebuilding us back when we were relegated but boy could he spot a player. it was him who signed Norwood and moved him from the wing to up top. He also signed Andy Cook etc for us Micky has always credited Brabin for the squad he inherited at Tranmere, you now have imo the best manager in the non league and the best recruiter of players at that level in the non league. As much as I hate it, the odds of you replacing us in the league are now well in your favour 2 top appointments
  6. Hi all, Tranmere fan here, have seen some posts questioning Micky's record/style of play so wanted to put my perspective on it For me, you could not have got a better manager for what you need, he will get the fans and players onside and he will make sure that every player is giving 100% game in, game out. With his record, you can largely ignore his second spell with us, when he came back he was not in charge of recruitment anymore, was not allowed to bring in an assistant to him and the budget had been cut. He was told to play a set formation - which he abandoned early on- and was given a recruitment model that we have abandoned already which is telling. He was never the right manager for the role he had come back to. Similarly with style of play, yes he doesn't like to get beat but... in the National League we played good football, back in the EFL he was always battling against teams with more money and often massively overachieved- the league two promotion for example. Like with any manager at this level there are negatives, he is stubborn at times and to make it work he needs to have complete control. I thought it was interesting your recruitment member has gone and not returned to his role, as I put above his main complaint was regarding him not being in charge of transfers when he came back. One thing you will find in a few weeks is a player will suddenly drop out the squad, Micky is a hard taskmaster and if he feels a player is slacking in training then he will just be out, no questions asked. We left Andy Cook out for a number of weeks despite him being arguably our best player at the time. I would not be shocked either for you to sign an experienced central defender and central midfielder if you do not have one currently, he likes a spine that is experienced- Peter Clarke/McNulty/Jay Harris etc One last one is that his teams start the season slowly, seems to happen each season and then from a few months onwards it clicks. Best of luck to him and to you and I would be really shocked if you are not fighting up the right end of the table with him at the end of the season.
