  1. .............is anyone else really looking forward to Saturday and this season in general??

Plans afoot for a new ground which the noises being made suggest is actually going to happen this time.

A new manager who'll bring us attacking football, organisation & discipline (both on and off the field).

We've hung on to Eardley (for now) & Taylor, who IMO will really come to the fore this year, and made some excellent new signings in Furman, Abbott, Parker, Worthington & Purdie. I'll be surprised if 1 or 2 more haven't been added by the weekend.

A young squad full of already half decent players with the potential to kick on. The likes of Ryan Brooke and Dale Stephens could also come through.

Most importantly, we've resigned our most experienced and, arguably, best player in Sean Gregan.

Oh, and we've even got a leftback!

Positivity? on here? wheres the lynch mob?

....but finally someones talking some sense. thankyou.

  2. i think furman, with better players around him, will score a couple more than that.

Whitts will score a few, as he did last season.

agree with smalley, but i reckon taylor will get about 8 or 9.

I think parker will be our main source of goals this year though, hes looked lively in the friendlies, and hes a player with a point to prove.

  3. was an odd game to watch.

First half we were awful, was too easy for bridge. They scored 1 very nice goal, but the others were very preventable. The defence looked a wee bit dodgy, and fullbacks beaten too easily.

Second half we bossed it. Dale stephens looked top. really nice curling free kick from just outside the box, and a low, drilled shot under the keeper. Trialist scored the other - Patrick somebody. Steer came on and started to stick some good balls into the box, and we could have won it with the last kick of the game, but for the trialist wanting a massively wide net.

On a side note, josh ollerenshaw looked a bit ropey. iv seen him play before and know he can be a good keeper, but simple balls that he shouldve been claiming were heart in mouth moments. his kicking was also a bit weak. I definitely think we should be looking at bringing in a new keeper.

  4. am i the only one that didn't think we were that bad apart from hazell? i was impressed with some of the football that was played especially in the second half. Keigan Parker looked quality aswell. The result doesn't matter, it's only a friendly...

    agreed mate

  5. i wouldnt say angry i would say frustrated because i know its another rubbish league 1 campaign and yet again we will be awaiting league 1 fixtures on 17th june 2010 then 2011.....2039

How do you know itll be another 'rubbish' campaign? Because weve, by all accounts, signed a good, solid full back? Were building a squad. How can you pass judgement until its completed, or infact, seen them play together? Your prediction of relegation on another thread is just mad.

  6. I've asked this before. Where is the evidence that Latics sell off "prize assets" cheaply? The only occasion that has been put forward was when CMoore was flogging off players to put some cash back in his pocket.

Perhaps my post was slightly misleading. What I meant was that the figures being thrown about seem on the cheap side, considering when other clubs sell off their good players they make a tidy profit. When I said "Its the sort of thing the club would do" I simply meant that due to the econommic situation the club, and indeed the country, finds itself in I can see them accepting the offer. I wasn't suggesting that Latics frequently sell players for under their value.

  7. Hope not, but its the sort of thing the club would do.

When Arsenal were talking about 6 million for Delph, 750k is peanuts. Before someone says "be realistic", look at any other club. When they sell their prize asset, they haul it in. Why we should be any different is beyond me.

  8. Why Not Auction Off Places To 1 Or 2 Fans To Take Part?

As much as that would be great, I'm sure that Penney would still use the game as an oppertunity to asess his squad, and how well they play together. In this sense he probably wouldn't want a fan running round trying to deck in his/the oppositions playing staff.
