  1. lol he doesnt want to marry you  and your dislike of him is possibly because hes done fairly well in football better than Gannon and a similar Ego. If the short Jock can revive our fortunes good luck to him it needed a fresh approach rather than the attempts of late. Remember he once scored a goal for Arsenal that helped save us in premiership.

Didn't Dickov also score a hat trick for City in the final match of the season against York in about 1999 that relegated them rather than us ?

  2. simon stainrod..... we need a player of his quality today

Too right Bob - he is still probably my favourite Latics player of all time, his debut game goal still lives long in the memory, not just because who it was against and we never won at Ewood Park but the skill he had to beat the defenders and then the impossible angle he scored from.

  3. Believe there was about 4500 Latics fans today - great idea to move the game !

This is just about the worst weather i've seen in a good few weeks and we are playing one of our biggest games so far this season! Yet yesterday the weather was perfect for a local derby! It's just typical really. There is absolutely no reason why we should be playing today (and that's if it doesn't get postponed, which wouldn't surprise me)

  4. Yep a tranmere mate of mine has it down as 50/50 and basically echoes the above doubts mentioned by tranmere fans.

Not looking good folks. I'm about 3 miles from the ground, my garden is totally under water, and some main roads round here really difficult to get through. Needs to stop raining soon for any chance of the match going ahead, which doesn't seem likely at the moment. Think you should check before starting out.

  5. Ripped this off another forum. Could you name your favourite all time Oldham Team, not just players on ability, random players can be thrown in that you have taken a liking too, childhood heros, Etc Heres mine although im not 100% sure on some of them, only one player from the premiership days really as i cant really remember them!

    Gerrard

    Eardley F Hall Graham Serrant

    Beresford Duxbury C Armstrong Eyres

    J Johnson Porter

    Subs:

    G Kelly

    Halle

    L Richardson

    Dudley

    McCarthy

Im sure ive probably missed out some of my other childhood favourite players as the memory is a bit hazy!!:)

    Goram

    Halle Barrett Jobson Whittle

    Redfearn Milligan Sheridan Groves

    Stainrod Ritchie

Subs : Hallworth Palmer Atkinson Young Taylor

Showing my age I suppose with 70's players !

  6. Iv'e seen some good Latics debuts in my time, Bobby Johnstone being the highlight.

but the one I remember the most was in the 1960s when young Irishman called Tony Foster made a magnificent league debut, unfortunately he never repeated that performance and I believe returned home after a few matches.

Who made the best Latics debut in your opinion ?

Simon Stainrod away at Blackburn in 1979, scored from a seemingly impossible angle in a 2-0 win

  7. For those a little older, Micky Quinn scored regularly against us

Andy Linighan for Arsenal in '93

Barlow scored against us for Wigan and Tranny

Denis Irwin scored twice in the 6-3

Irwin also scored the first goal in the 4-1 defeat in the '94 replay

Neil Adams scored for Norwich in 96/97

Andy Hughes didn't score against us just celebrated like a twonk right in the face of the Chaddy

    Redders regularly bagged against us

David Currie scored against us after returning to Barnsley in a Friendly

Marshall's goal was on the opening day of 93/94. He repeated the feat 2 years later in a 1-1 draw at BP

    Sure I'll think of more

Going even further back how about Alan Young for Leicester ?

  8. One of my all time favorites :)

    :imnotworthy:rogwylde1.jpg:imnotworthy:

One of my all time favourites too.

Him and Stainrod were a great pairing but don't think they played that many games together. Remember this game at Rotherham which I think we won 2-1, didn't win away that often in the early 80's

What I would give for a forward line like that today !

  9. My first game at BP stood on RRE in 1970 - against Chesterfield when they ended up being champions. Most memorable experience was last game of 1975-76 against West Brom when I ended up in the middle of 15,000 of their fans. They won 1-0 after cropping Alan Groves early on if I remember, brilliant atmosphere though and think meant w**ky Wanderers missed out on promotion

  10. Seeing the latest "Oh what a shirt" reminded me that the Roch. Rd End used to be a massive open terrace before it was reduced by approx. half. Does anyone have a photo of it as I'm getting all nostalgic? Thx.

In fact the first time I went in BP was when my brother-in-law took me for the last 15 mins in the RRE (think it was against Bristol Rovers in 76/77 season). He did that a couple of times (he was always a tight git!) but we saw a couple of goals.

  11. Simon Stainrod is my all time favourite Latics player in the 37 years I've been watching them>

How he can have been omitted from the recent "Legends of Oldham Athletic" book is beyond me - he was such a hit with the fans at the time.

I still clearly remember his debut goal at Blackburn when he beat 3 or 4 players and slotted it in from what seemed an impossible angle - one of the best ever Latics goals. Pity not recorded at the time. Then of course the infamous game against Sheffield Weds when his goal sparked the riot. How we could do with someone like him now !

  12. Name : Pete

    Location : Wirral

Length of time supporting Latics : since 1970 (first match was v Chestefield when they won the league and we also got promoted)

    Favourite Player : Simon Stainrod

Best away match : v Man City (when Roger got his hat trick) and v Sheffield Utd (won 5-0) and was living there at the time

Rivals : given where I live now has to be Tranmere
