  1. I can't help but wonder whether one of the clubs who are currently in administration might not find a 'saviour' and actually fold. Southampton will be fine I'm sure, with a new stadium (which they still manage to more or less fill) and good recent pedigree. Clubs like Stockport though, with no assets of which to speak etc and a fairly poor fanbase (similar to us), well, it's hard to see in these days of recession who is going to want to piss good money after bad up the wall.

You can bet your arse though if one goes then more will follow. Very worrying.

Good luck to Stockport for the fans sake.

At this rate League One will turn into a farce like League 2 this season. Thats Saints and Stockport now -10 which kind of devalues the competition from the off.

Also there seems to be a strange coincidence with administration and teams nicknamed The Hatters. Strange but true

  2. He said he's been offered top jobs here and elsewhere and they've never appealed to him. However if he was to be in charge of the ressies and work with the first in a Dux/Tommy type role I think he could provide a much more effective link between the first and youth setups which has been lacking for the last three years (wink wink nudge nudge).

I asked about this and he said he sees no reason why he wouldn't be here next year. That the youth setup is seperate in terms of budget, personnel and what not to the extent that he has very little fear about his job.

Hopefully, like you say, he will continue to do the outstanding job he's been doing at Latics for all these years.

While i think TP would make an excellent manager, i wouldnt want the youth setup left in the hands of someone else. He has done an excellent job and his skills alone will be financially beneficial to the club for years to come.

  3. I respect your opinion, Ive just read about him on Wikipedia and done some research on darlington and doncaster too, it simply doesn't inspire me, that's not to say he won’t succeed and I hope he does, but to me it lacks ambition of the club to make such an appointment.

Any appointment comes with its own risks, no matter who the said manager is. Sometimes they work out sometimes they dont. I have to say i was a bit underwhelmed when it was first mentioned but then i think maybe he could be the person to get us out of this division, but then again he may be like the Warnock, Shez, Moore, Talbot, Dowie and not do it.

Realistically we have made an appointment which fair enough wont sell season tickets or increase crowds, but the truth of the matter is only consistant performances on the pitch and not bottling it when the heat is on will do that. We could look back in a couple of years at this moment and say it was the best thing to happen to OAFC since the pinch me days.

  4. saw him play in the rochdale game...didnt really do anything for me...dont know if he was injured or not...got to ask yourself why did udders lrt him go

To be honest, unless the service to our front players improves remarkably from this season, we could have Torres and Messi up front and it would make bugger all difference.

If Abbott could back to anywhere near the fitness and form his was in for Hudders then he would be a good signing, but i havent seen enough of him to judge where he's at now. He cant be any worse than Ormerod and Kabba though surely.

  5.

I dont know why but i feel a bit uneasy doing to Darlo what everyone did to us when we were up s**t creek. Everyone came to our expected closing down sale and pinched players like Fitz and Stretch for well under their market value. Admittedly the Torex tosser was instrumental in it all, but it wasnt nice when it happened to us, and i would be a bit peed off if i was a Darlo fan with all the vultures circling.

  6. Surely I’m not the only one who'll be greatly underwhelmed if we appoint Dave Penney???

No i cant say i am over enthusiastic about him being appointed either, but then i look at the realistic alternatives and none of them really appeal. I think we have to accept that a club with our budget, stature and fan base combined with outstaying our welcome in this crap league, is the best we can expect to attract.

  7. he looks an ok manager but seems to spit his dummy out a lot - not what we need IMO.

low key is the way forward. sick of the constant melodrama.

The big problem we had this season was having a squad which had no discipline at all. Fair enough Gannon may be able to restore some of it, but i really dont believe Gannon would set a great example to the players full stop. Gannon is just a loose cannon. The club has had enough negative press this year without adding him to it.

  8. Think charlton could also have a job dodging admin next season

    Its norwich thats the problem

    18 000 season tickets!!!

My housemate is a Norwich fan and apparently they dont have a pot to piss in now, let alone if they get relegated. Still if they do go down i would expect them to make more of a fist of going up next season than Charlton and Saints.

The bad thing for us is, more 'big' teams are going to keep coming down from the Championship so every season we dont go up its going to get harder.

Wayne Andrews, - No opinion and cant see why some rated him so highly.

Jermaine Johnsson - Dislike Lazy bugger who could have done much more when here if he could of been arsed

Christian Colusso - Like - Wadsworth's talented South American wonderkid.....ahem ok Mick. Thanks for Bury and thats it

  10. A lot of people are talking with contempt when it comes to Lee Hughes.....I don't quite understand why.

Is it because he didn't sign a new contract with us?

He was never obliged to, he claimed he wanted to play Championship football, that was last season, he stated he wanted to play Championship football with Oldham. It's not happened. He didn't cry and moan about not leaving in January, he shrugged his shoulders and got on with it.

Is it because of his past?

Hypocrisy, his past hasn't been an issue over these past two season whilst he played for us has it? Hasn't stopped you cheering him on?

Is it because his performances towards the end of the season dropped?

So did the rest of the team, but I don't see anyone condemning golden boy Taylor who started immensely at the start of the campaign.

So what did Hughes do that was so bad?

And would you boo him if he returned with opposition?

I dont dislike the guy and was glad him playing for us than against us since he's been here.

The only problem i have with him is that he looked as if he couldnt be arsed after January deadline finished, but then i spose we could say that for the majority of the team. He did have some good touches and a good eye for goal but will be interested to see how he does at Championship level next season (providing he signs for someone in it) as i dont think he has the fitness or ability anymore to make it as a successful second tier striker.

  11. 10 point penalty

My mate is a Saints fan and is gutted about it, even though he accepts that they deserved it for all Rupert Lowe's attempts at plugging the sinking ship.

Thing is though i dread to think if we had gone into admin a season after we did where we would be now as IIRC we would have been down with the deduction. I think i was Wrexham who ended up going down instead and look where they are now.

Yes clubs should learn to live within their means, but i think the damage has already been done for a lot of them who come down from the Prem and dont get straight back up. Think Saints are in for a long hard season next year. Looking likely to be -10 and nowhere near the resources that Leeds etc have had. My mate fears that they could become the next Luton.

Still they deserve it for making the final day back in 1993 so unbearable!

  12. warne in goal for yeovil , let in the last goal of the 5 . after the goalie was sent off for dropping a player outside the box.

if you thought our defending woefull, you should have seen walsall. terrible especially the first 2 goals for bristol rovers of the 5. no one marking easy tap ins.

nottm forest. manager apologised to fans for their 5-=0 defeat at burnley, said players need to look at themselves and produce more effort. sounded like shez.

our game. 2 good goals from us. budtz was well outside 18yds box when he headed the ball out

I admire you for even wanting to watch it. I saw it was on but just couldnt bring myself to ruin my Sunday like my Saturday afternoon

  13. I almost agree with that sentiment. However, rather than being "out of his depth" I would probably describe it as "lost his way".

This is precisely why he needs an experienced head alongside him.Not offence to Tommy but he is just as inexperienced and 'learning the trade' like shez. Saying that though, i think shez would be to stubborn to listen to anyone else anyway so wtf does it matter

  14. Interesting points, athough alot of people are arguing the complete opposite

As in sheridan clearly does not have a clue and we are only going to get lower in the table whilst he is in charge, and would hold out more hope of getting to the playoffs with someone else in charge for the last nine games.

I suspect if sheridan is not gone by monday then he will be here until the end of the season, although I personally think he has to go now as I see his position as untenable, and any new manager that comes in will be able to assess the players for himself rather than having to rely on word of others/hearsay to make a decision of who gets a new contract and who doesnt, as would be the case if he went at the end of the season.

I have always been a massive Shez fan but i think his position has become untenable for reasons which sadly arent football related and if rumours are to believed from the night at the dogs, well, i dont think it needs to be elaborated on.

  15. Gotta say this this, and no disrespect mate but I am so pissed off with the last couple of months performances. I think you are Dreaming, we wont finish in the top 8,the longer this goes on the less chance there is of getting Gannon.

WTF are some people creaming themselves over the thought of getting Gannon?

  16. He isn't going to leave this season unless theres a big bust up, it isn't going to happen and maybe shouldn't.

But his position needs to be reviewed if we don't go up.

Thankfully the extortinate distance to make a midweek game saved me the pain of seeing it tonight. Yes we lost against another :censored: team, but to say his position needs to be reviewed if we dont go up is a bit of a knee jerk reaction. If we make the play-offs then Shez's record would have been two play-offs in three seasons, and a miraculous 8th place last year considering the injuries we had.

I would say though that his team selection tonight was somewhat baffling. Budtz for Fleming? Hines who is a centre back at right back instead of Eards? And its no coincidence that Hughes's game has been off since Windy arrived. Alessandra deserves a start and get back to basics again with the team that started the season so well. Our problem is, as it was when we almost blew it two seasons ago is that all our players seem to lose form at the same time.

JUst out of interest, did we ever get the sports psycologist in in the end? If so then i think someone should check out how legitimate his CV is.

  17. Bob you are being reactionary and judgemental, have you read the article? This is typical Daily Mail Islamaphobic rubbish that's done its job. The piece only just manages to provide the reader with the fact that, and I quote: "...that all holy books should be treated equally and go on the top shelf together.", but it does a better job of attracting interest from all the wrong people....

To be honest i think the Daily Mail gets a rough deal from people. It is the only paper i have read that dares to tell things like they are. I would rather read that than the rubbish you get in papers like the Guardian which is all pro Gormless Brown and is basically a mouth piece for Labour and their communist/socialist crap.

Im not saying the Daily Mail is faultless as every paper has its bad points, but just anything pro-labour just happens to have more cons than any other. The Mail seems to be the only paper and perhaps maybe the Express as well that have the balls to stand up to all the PC clap trap which seems to surround us nowadays.

Still my one gripe with the mail is that the sports section is still very keen to jump on the Leeds bandwagon. Its a breaking story for them......Leeds arent a big club!

As for the fiction section for the bible, well that may be so but religion is not so much about praying to God everyday but a morals that this country is based on. Its no coincidence that since religion has been shunned that society has fallen apart, and for that reason (and im not a bible basher) the bible should be celebrated rather than seen as an offence to anyone else. Thing is if someone said they were sticking the Koran on the top shelf you could be sure that there would be idiots with placards saying 'Death to those in libraries who put the koran on the top shelf'!

  18. And it's especially clear from this clip how all three goals came after wonderful, creative balls from Windass.

    Different class.

    :cardinal:

To be fair, Whitaker's goal was more to do with his good foot work and finish that a Windass contribution. But the flick on for the second and the little pass to Taylor for the third were class. Good finish as well by Taylor as well.
