Sometimes you just can't believe what you're reading on here.

We wouldn’t - it’s a great video. We’d look like we’d have a club & manager with good humour whilst also flagging up that he’s ambitious for the club he’s got a striker playing & scoring again.
We'd look like idiots. It'd be quite embarrassing.

It's not the club's fault is people can't see it as the light hearted gag that it's intended to be.
At the very most all you can read into this is that we'll be making an offer.
If they've made a video begging him to stay and he pisses off to Scunthorpe next week we'll look like the most desperate club in football.
-
Only Latics could make that video if he hasn't signed for us. They know full well what releasing it will lead fans to think. Could be their best piss boil ever this one.

That is a fair point but I do wonder why this lad in full view of the Irish establishment has not had a call when the likes of Carl has and Byrne got a call when with Blackburn reserves as have Dummigan and Maclaughlin with Oldham and even the kid keeper at Leeds whom we rejected has......I know nothing about him but I see a contradiction between reports of his ability and his lack of representative recognition
You're talking about the country who refused to call up Seani Maguire after a million goals in the Irish league, but then gave him his first cap after signing, but never playing, for Preston.

Could have been 9th if we had managed to take our chances against Gillingham and Wimbledon.
Not winning those two has kind of simmered down my hope so I think we'll finish in and around the top half.
After the start we've had and the uncertainty surrounding wages, raids and proposed investment I think bettering last season is an achievement.
If we can keep the majority of this squad with a few additions next year I dont see why we can't finish comfortably in the Play-offsAll teams in the top six will have games and spells like that though. Ultimately, it's our form under Sheridan that probably has us a bit too far out of reach.
-
We're third in the form table for the last 11 games, even after that mini downturn in form going 3 without winning or scoring. That's the most frustrating thing really, those results would have been fine if we hadn't chucked away the first quarter of the season.
As it is, I'd be disappointed if we weren't top half should we keep the current squad together. If we don't, a good finish to the season for me would be anywhere around mid table, with the takeover completed and a few decent additions in January, something to give us positivity going in to next season.

They were absolutely rank, but good from us. That shape suits us more, gives Byrne licence to wander about, and gives Dummigan more protection. Shame to break up Doyle-Davies partnership, but think it's the way forwards - especially with McL coming back (although Tope was v good today).
Davies had gone off the boil anyway. It was a good time to try something new.
-
Be very surprised if it's off.

Interesting that we played one up top tonight. I'd like to see McLaughlin play on the right wing when back fully fit, Doyle up front and Byrne behind. I think that would free Byrne up and save his legs for doing what he does best.
Obadeyi played well. Gevaro should be one of the first names on the team sheet for me, classy player. Queensy and Tope off the bench are brilliant options though against tiring defences.

Fair comment.....but to accommodate his strengths and weaknesses have we also gone a bit deeper and also play the ball forward a bit earlier and longer than we were doing and are therefore less potent going forward
I don't think there's much truth to that at all. We probably created the most clear cut chances I've seen us create for years in the previous home game.
Why would Gerrard need to drop deeper than Clarke, I reckon he's actually faster.

Puzzled? They've won 1 (lowest in the League) and have the joint worse points total. Lost joint 3rd worse. tough to break down would be fair.
The two games are teams below us putting 10 behind he ball, and that probably is where we struggle. A tweak in tacts might help.
Here are are shots , on target and goals recently, I might try and add to
Southend, Wigan and Scunthorpe all only managed a point there, Charlton lost.

Their home record is decent this season, would have been a handy point I'd we'd have put one of those chances away on Tuesday.
Not the worst result though.

Apologies, only four of them.

We've also conceded the most in the PL &FL in the last 15 mins too. just down to a more attacking approach possibly?
We did concede 5 of those in one game, to be fair.

From what I've seen of the guy on Instagram, he's putting some serious effort in away from training to try and improve himself technically. I think the signs of that work have definitely showed over the last few months, even though he's still got a long way to go.

It's always baffled me down the years this idea that a player who can create, score and entertain is a "luxury".
Why are creative qualities not viewed as more of a necessity than defensive qualities? Surely they are....?
Proved just a few months ago by Steve Robinson....
It's like you're looking at football backwards/upside down....
Having a player that can take care of the ball and more often than not find a blue shirt with it, surely means your team will do less defending as a result.

Thought exactly the same, he seems to be a bit of a weak link at the minute and his performances for me are regressing, could do with some pressure on him for his position maybe?
I reckon Kean Bryan has all the attributes to play as a left back and if we could bring in a quality centrehalf to play alongside Clarke/Gerrard it may well be an option for Wellens.
You want to move our best centre half to left back, just because Hunt has been a bit quiet?

Holloway was exceptional when he came on.

He's better than every keeper at the club and many from previous years....
He isnt better than last years keeper by a long way and this confident defence that plays in front of him leaks like a fkn sieve as does he. However he can pass better than most including Ripley which as a goalkeeper despite popular belief on here is secondary to......GOALKEEPING!
How many of the goals we've conceded could he have done better with? How many of the goals we've scored this season could their keeper have done better with? And lastly, how many opposition keepers we've faced have turned a striker in the box before pinging a 70 yard ball up field leading to a goal being scored...?

He has played well that is not in doubt. But a slight exaggeration I feel...Also your use of ‘created chances/goals’ and ‘key influence’ makes it more difficult to accurately measure his overall impact. (Ie. How good was the chance and what exactly is a key influence?)
My analysis of all first team games he has played in since he joined, using goals scored and assists made, is as follows:
Total Latics Goals scored - 30
Byrne Goals - 5
Byrne Assists - 5
Percentage influenced - 33%
Still an excellent contribution but not quite 90% ?
I don't need stats to tell me how important Jack Byrne is to this team.
Take him out and we wouldn't even be half the team we currently are.

Next couple of games will tell us Byrnes real qualities. Bury did a job on him on Tuesday having realised he was the threat. There is a reason he isn't catching at Wigan and Blackburn fans don't rate him. However wellens appears to be getting the best out of him.
I remember Robbie Simpson running the show for his first few games!
We’ve already seen his real qualities.
Deary me, we’ve got one of the best playmakers in the league, something we haven’t had for god knows how long, and people can’t just enjoy him.

Shirtliff was there again tonight.

He has make mistakes sometimes massive but he is still here when many would have fucked off including his business partners!

Gevaro did nothing wrong today and is quite clearly one of our best players.
This place is insane.
