  1. I'm joining the 'can't be bothered to read through the rest of the thread' brigade. Therefore, don't know if anyone has already mentioned this - but do you think the decision to publicly not play Eaves due to his contract negotiations may have added to the club parting company with him? I only say this because Eaves has now signed a 5-year contract...? Just a thought and probably way off the mark!

  2. Seems like there could be a bit of mileage in the legal challenge regarding the voting fiasco. The Law seems clear enough according to Jenny Watson (Electoral commission interviewed just now on BBC) so how come some returning officers decided to use discretion?! Surely you'd think they would be clear on what happens if people are still outside around 10pm...

  3. The moon faced tory idiots and jabba are trying to spin this election as a rejection of Brown. The real story is the failure of Cameron and the rejection by the British people of his failed agenda.

Granted the real result hasn't come out yet but I will stake my miserable reputation that the wonderful people of these sceptred isles have rejected the tories.

I wonder what odds you will get on the tories stabbing Cameron in the front before Labour stab Brown in the back?

Thing is though, I don't think they have anyone who could do better? To be honest I hope they implode. Or explode. Or some form of chaos.

If we voted simply left wing vs right wing, then it would most definitely be night night DC.

Regarding Gordon Brown, I'm not sure what'll happen. I'm not sure I think there is anyone else (yet) who is of prime ministerial ilk. Not just within Labour but also Tory and Lib-Dem etc...

  4. Just as a complete aside, I had come on to this topic direct from the RSS feed after being out at work till about 10:45. Only just now I've clicked view knew posts and have realised that we don't have Mr Penney in charge anymore! Have to say wasn't expecting that.

    Anyway, back to the election!

  5. Too early to call.

However, the fact that the tories were about 10-20 points ahead in the polls, have had the backing of all but 2 papers, had the backing of one major news broadcaster, not had their policies scrutinised to any extent by the political hacks and had a very unpopular, perhaps the most unpopular government on a par with thatcher and yet they still couldn't seal the deal?

Bingo! Love it - a friend of mine pointed this out to me this morning. Hadn't thought about it like this before but you're dead right. In 1997 the country was unhappy with the incumbent government and we saw a 10%+ swing to Labour. In 2010 the country seems unhappy with the Government and yet the best the Tories can get is a hung parliament result. Surely this tells David Cameron that the majority of the country don't want him or his party in charge!

For me a hung parliament is the best result. Get parties talking and having to cooperate. It seems to be working well in Scotland with the minority SNP.

  6. I've never quite got my head round this saying....surely if the ball goes straight in from the corner, would it not strike the post? even from any point of the 'D' the angle wouldn't allow it to miss the post!

You make the angle with curl and dip.

Anyway, I'm just back from 5 a side and can donate 5 of my goals to the cause. One a particularly nice mazy run through the middle, feigning shot, so keeper goes down and rounding in for a nice tap in. Please Latics, use this one well don't want it to go to waste!

  7. Good result, I reckon it's coming together. Always going to be difficult when you have injuries, month loan signings because of the cohesion of the team. Let's hope we can keep hold of Price, as he's certainly helping the attack.

If we keep playing like that, then we'll definitely not be relegated - it would be good however to score a couple more. We should probably have won that by 2 or 3 today.

Let's hope that this performance and result gives the team some confidence as we head into the next few games. We're certainly going to need it! Colchester, Leeds and Norwich watch out!!!

  8., this team?! Eleven men behind the ball and keep our fingers crossed!

    Come on boys...

Haha, good point, a tad optimistic perhaps. I just think that as we've been outplaying them for most of the second half, we can keep going for 10 minutes. Best form of defence is attack? Keep the ball in their half, cause it seems that our defence might just gift them a goal....!

  9. Will he be signing with Wrexham as a free agent having left us? I know he was on a short term 'rolling' type contract with us. I was wondering if we had any leverage to ask for a reduction of the percentage that they will receive for Eardley, rather than them paying us a fee...?

  10. I have my suspicions from on here.

Easy to check who is based there, there are not that many!

Maybe he does it to fit and and not get beat up for being English. Typical whinging Scot, they all have a chip on their shoulder...

Feel like the pitchforks and torches are coming out - hunt 'im down...

By the way, it's not me.

  11. In the grand scheme of things you are an unspectacular team in the biggest city in the UK to only have one professional football team.

As pointed out on page 2 of this thread. This is why your attendances are huge compared to other teams in this division... It has nothing in my mind to do with Leeds being a 'huge' team... 15/16 years ago we were a premiership team, now we're the longest serving member of this beautiful league (I think). Looking forward to 10 years time when you'll be reflecting on a similar scenario.
